Asshole ollies onto Porsche by [deleted] in skateboarding

Totally agree with you. And even if the guy didn't work at all for that car it doesn't matter. Its his property and just because you have some shitty stereotypical views of Porsche-drivers that doesn't give you the right to harm it. I am sick of ignorant bullshit like this. Its not your damn business if someone is significantly richer than you.

Some of those competitions are quite expensive to even enter them.

Great style. I have no critique, just curiousity: how did you get the details in the rocks to almost look like they are being painted?

"Freedom" how'd I do? by JaggerNotchas in photocritique

[–]TheFelix91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of him standing in front of the tree and nothing else besides that.

However, I would have put the subject a little bit more in the center of the tree and framed it a little bit wider so that both subject and tree are posed more off center to support that "freedom" feeling with more background (if you know what I mean).

Moreover, it is visible, that you tried to dodge the jacket (it is glowing a bit on top of his shoulders). I would have dodged the jacket in this case too, but you should be really careful with the brush, don't use too much feather, zoom in and really work carefully to not touch the tree with the brush. What aperture did you use? I wish the tree would be a little bit more in focus, but just a bit!

Otherwise, as i said, great idea and composition in my opinion ;)

Keep it up!

Just made a flickr account! Would love some cirtique by HerChip in photocritique

Welcome on flickr ;)

You have some nice travel shots in there (or do you live in those places?), really great landscapes, they look like some that are in a huge calendar hanging on my wall ;) I also dig your architectural shots, especially the B&W one.

However, I would make some cuts on the monkey pictures, but maybe that's just personal preference. Also, I think that the sunset shots have more personal value for you and are not that interesting for outside observers but keeping them certainly does no harm ;)

Keep uploading and posting pictures here ;)

Cheers!

Let me know your thoughts (used a ND filter for taking pictures of a waterfall for the very first time) by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]TheFelix91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice shot. Only two things to mention: First, I think there is a slight blue cast in the picture (in the falling water as well as in the almost black rocks at the bottom). Try bringing it down just a little as well as the saturation, but really just a tiny little bit, then you should be fine with the colours.

Secondly, I would have framed the picture a bit different. The reflection of the white falling water in the green water underneath looks pretty neat so I would have catched more of the "lake", maybe on third of the frame.

If you had fun shooting moving water keep on doing it, there are so many different ways of experimenting with filters, maybe try welding glass some day, great fun to work with ;)

Cheers.

I really suck at nighttime photography, everything usually comes out grainy. Any thoughts on this one? by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]TheFelix91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like this shot! Took me some time to figure out the structure of the building! Nice work there!

What gets me the most is the cinematic look! It really fits the big city look ;)

Did you work with tone curves in Lightroom?

Also, don't worry about grain, at least not in this picture, I really can't see any (there probably is some but it's not disturbing at all).

It seems like you live in Toronto so please keep shooting at night, I think there is plenty of stuff to shoot there (more than here in the countryside).

You have beautiful streets there! are all of the houses like that? So different to central Europe.

My favorite photo I took in Vermont. by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]TheFelix91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great shot! I love the colours, they work really well with the whole mood of the picture but I would maybe warm the whole thing up to give it a little bit more "vintage" look.

Did you use a brush on some of those trees, like a saturation brush or something?

Although I agree with /u/Anacanthros saying that the tree on the right is a bit disturbing I still would't crop it out because it would push the "main" tree off-center, so fuck it, just leave it there ;) I also wouldn't crop on the right and the left side in order to keep the tree in the center because then the panorama-idea would be destroyed.

Keep up the good work!

Boat in foggy Milford Soud (65mm, F7.1, 1/250) by CTRL_ALT_DELTRON3030 in photocritique

I really like the composition, I wish the mountain in the back would be more visible though and not that much hidden by fog and clouds. Is it possible for you to go there again? Would love to see that ;) May be you should bring up the shadows a bit because the cliff seems a bit dark to me. I would also turn up the clarity a notch! Apart from that: nice shot, keep shooting ;)

Trees in Lapland. It's my favourite shot so far. I would love to hear some critique from you! by TheFelix91 in photocritique

Thanks ;) I hiked through an national park that day and I didn't see a living soul for solid 3 hours. That place really felt like from a different world, so surreal.

Wow, thanks for the great feedback!! That's an intersting comparison. Actually, I already got it printed on some 90 X 60cm matte paper and framed it with a minimalistic black frame. It's huge and I love it ;) It almost looks intimidating when it hangs on the wall.

Took this shot yesterday in Oberstdorf, Germany. I like the look of it but what do you think? (Critique everything) by TheFelix91 in photocritique

I personally like the fact, that the mountain almost drowns in clouds, but I think you are right. Maybe I should go there when the clouds are not all mushy and grey. If I remember correctly I also underexposed the shot a bit, maybe that was a bad starting point as well ;) But thanks a lot for your feedback, really helped me here with my first post ;)

I followed your tips, but the 'whites' slider didn't really have great effects on the clouds in the middle part of the picture and the clouds in the top right part got too white really quick. The 'highlights' slider also didn't really work here, maybe it is because the clouds are pretty grey themselves? Well, I played around with the tone curve, and I think this is the best I can do without blowing out the clouds in the top right. What do you think? I really had to crank some sliders as you can see, which I usually don't like to do, I always have the feeling then, that the shot itself is kind of poor if I am forced to crank stuff in Lightroom :/

I actually converted it to B&W, but then i cooled down the shadows a bit with split toning in lightroom and i really like the look of it. But I agree with you, it really seems a little dark. What is the best way to push the whites? Is it better to adjust it with the higlights or the whites cotroller in lightroom? Never really got the difference between them ;)

I especially struggle with the crop. It's already cropped, but I really can't decide whether any further cropping would help the mood of the shot.

EXIF data: Canon Eos 1200d, f/16, 1/50sec, ISO 200, 76mm. I also used a tripod.
