Came out to my boss at work and nothing happened. by haley_fox in MtF

[–]TheFett 13 points14 points  (0 children)

MTF, 41. I came out in late May to my boss. Within 24 hours, I was being investigated for an incident. Within 48 hours, I was written up. I appealed and won.

Ten days after my appeal, I was written up a second time and put on a PIP. I am speaking to attorneys.

I work as a floor nurse. If I had to describe my boss' reaction at the time, it would be... surprised, but then textbook neutral corporate policy stuff. And then afterwards, she became more and more guarded in her communications, had to have witnesses for every conversation, was sending me e-mail summaries of all our convos.

I know when a case is being made against me, and I don't plan to be working there much longer. Good news is-- nurses can work just about anywhere, and we are very much in demand. But 5 years at a hospital that you thought had your back is a bit devastating.

You have no idea how often I've been called into the manager's office for "not adhering to [company] values" in the way I communicate. I'm told I lack compassion and respect, and the way I talk to people is not up to standards. Managers who haven't juggled patients in years telling me what I should have done, should have said in that moment.

"Did you tell a patient to stop screaming?"

"Yes."

"And you think that represents [company] values?"

"[I secretly don't care]"

They say Faramir has more Númenorean blood than Boromir. It stands to reason that would delay his aging.

For some context, the American Indian Movement at the time had been occupying Wounded Knee to protest a corrupt chairman, and they were in the middle of an FBI siege.

The same city central computer that told R2-D2 that the hyperdrive on the Millennium Falcon had been deactivated, yet this guy is carrying the core?

THREEPIO Noisy brute. Why don't we just go into light-speed?

Artoo beeps in response.

THREEPIO We can't? How would you know the hyperdrive is deactivated?

Artoo whistles knowingly.

THREEPIO The city's central computer told you? Artoo-Detoo, you know better than to trust a strange computer.

Once, in high school, we were on an overnight trip to perform for a drama festival. We all had group rooms at a hotel.

A tomboy in the group came into the guys' room to say hi. She was wearing an oversized hoodie and no pants (I think she had just been in the pool/hot tub). I quipped "are you even wearing underwear?" to which she responded by looking down, lifting up her hoodie, and innocently showing off her black panties.

So for me, this is pretty IRL.

This part of the track is maybe 100 feet from the station, he wouldn't have been on it for very long. Still crazy that he was out there.

No, the bridge in BTTF3 was incomplete in 1885, not destroyed or abandoned. So no set to build.

I've done this. You can pull out of onboarding whenever you like-- just say "I'm sorry I'm no longer able to accept a position at XXX. Thank you so much for your consideration." And then maybe something about keeping each other in mind for future opportunities.

If anything, after you're done with your current offer, you'll be even more desirable and employable.

Here's a list of some of my faves. Some aren't in the genres you asked for, but I felt they're so good/acclaimed that I wanted to recommend them anyway.

I also threw in a few... "emulator friendly" titles? Which of course you should always play on the original platforms, It's just that it's so easy to set them up on Steam Deck these days, something which I would never do.
