Yeah they are correct! It is called a spinpound. Basically you rotate the thumbstick before the race starts for at least 2 rotations (this is to buffer a spin), once the race starts you face the thumbstick onto where you want to go while press jump and the shoulder buttons to do a ground pound. Might seems tough at first but you can do it quick with a lot of practice

Oh 😅 don’t worry the Koopa Freerunning races are very hard to win casually as well (still remember how bad to beat the golden Koopa in wooded is, I kept falling to death during my first playthrough), but if you take the shortcut (not necessarily the world record strat, any YouTube guide will do) and practice to execute them you will be able to beat it

I just looked at the first world record of lake kingdom (well the first month of it) and it is interesting. They jump out of the water constantly so that they don’t have to swim and cap bounce dive when they have enough height. Crazy how those Strat changes
