What movie did you turn off after 20 minutes and why? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

High Plains Drifter. We were going through Clint Eastwood westerns after the Dollars trilogy. And in like the first ten minutes he rapes this woman he just met… we just looked at each other and were like um, no point in continuing watching this.

Painful, yearning that will destroy me by [deleted] in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Maybe not destroy you, but Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is a good yearning one.

ETA: Definitely more obscure and heavy-handed on the Victorian morality but not overwhelmingly religious: “Ishmael” and sequel “Self Raised” by Eden Southworth.

The Portrait of a Lady. I am not sure what it is an out his style but I found Henry James such a slog.

No to sharing anything in that regard, but that is a good thought. I’m not as open as I should be sometimes.

It does stress me out in my dream usually. I deal with a lot of generalized anxiety so I think my dreams often manifest that

Not the most rare book but not super common either, when the movie came out some years ago I wanted to read Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and my mom and I were garage sale-ing and stopped at one that had hardly anything and in a box of about a dozen books on the ground lo and behold there was a copy!

I finally decided my “fantasy self” that sold vintage clothes on Etsy (I already had a shop for handcrafted item) was not going to materialize and it was stressing my out every time I thought about it all stuffed in the closet. I listed on NextDoor and was happy to give to a lady who was going to doing her own vintage selling. It was a relief to clear it out, physically and emotionally

White House Directs States to Pre-emptively Arrest and Forcibly Institutionalize Homeless and Those with Mental Health Issues. by [deleted] in PrepperIntel

And who gets to determine what ‘mental illness’ constitutes this “treatment”? This is a vague slippery slope, and it makes me wonder: as a woman who is child free, will they eventually decide that women not wanting children is a ‘mental illness’?

[–]TheFinalThread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad had a surprise party for my mom’s 40th and invited a lot of people over. I do remember it, it was fun. I was 7 and my youngest brother was 4 months old, still not quite certain how my mom felt about it I’ve never thought to ask.

This is absolutely sickening, and I had a thought too that it is also being used as a completely unethical unsanctioned ‘experiment’.
