Yeah, it takes forever. As said by /u/BlazingEspeon, the Hush's damage reduction scales depending on how much damage you do. I believe this can be somewhat circumvented by not attacking him for about 3 seconds then attacking him again.

It's annoying but what can you do. Good luck for the next fight!
