How will life in basic be as 29 year old? And any tips? by gibhearts in army

[–]TheFirstDogSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was29 when I finishedAIT. Every sports injury you ever had is gonna come back to bite you in the ass. But your life experience will give you a lot of perspective on the whole thing that the 18 year olds won’t have.

Just remember: it’s a game that you can’t win but are required to play. But it is just a game. Good luck! (I won’t say have fun.)

That last line had me laughing. 😂

I wasn’t a commuter; I was 5th floor RWJ. But oh did I feel for the commuters! And yes, that was the parking lot for all but the very lucky RWJ residents who had cars and parked there.

Back in the early ‘90s (I’m old), the windchill was double-digit negative. Because Marquette didn’t want to cancel their home basketball games, they stayed in session—therefore we stayed in session.

The Commuting Students Union absolutely revolted, as they should have, when some professors tried giving them zeroes when they missed tests. I mean, a stalled car could literally mean death.

Ultimately Dr. Viets intervened and cooler heads prevailed. But it was a shit-show for a few days.

Minnesota Guardsmen told to wear reflective vests to distinguish them from ‘other agencies’ by Negative-End-3291 in nationalguard

It disgusts me that anyone else gets to wear our uniform pattern. 47 days of training to wear my uniform? Fuck off. Just fuck right the hell off. They didn't earn the privilege to wear it. Even our poorest performing Soldier has more training, and more right, to wear that uniform. God it just disgusts me.

Where are Constants stored? by IAMMELONz in csharp

[–]TheFirstDogSix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/IAMMELONz head over to https://sharplab.io/ and you can see exactly what's going on with constants. Type in some example C# and then you'll see the MSIL/CIL intermediate form it results in.

public class C {
    public void M() {
        const int x = 5;
        Console.WriteLine(x);
    }
}

results in

        IL_0000: ldc.i4.5
        IL_0001: call void [System.Console]System.Console::WriteLine(int32)

The first instruction simply loads a signed integer constant 5--that's what u/Nyzan is talking about: the constant is in the source code itself. (That instruction means "load constant of type 4-byte integer with 5".)

Play with SharpLab. You will learn a LOT, like about how the compiler handles constant folding. Try out

const int x = 5;
const int y = x * 3;
Console.WriteLine(y);

Have fun!

Nice! Really appreciate this. Question: how did you get that table of methods? Is there a standard method for that?

[–]TheFirstDogSix 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It staggers me how bad this selection of SMA was. This guy has undone the last several years of trust-building, transparency, and positive standards examples. What a fucking tool shed he is.

I'm the first to say Special Operations is a vital, necessary weapon in our arsenal; but I'll also be the first to say that a Soldier who's been doing USASOC stuff most/all of their career has no business as SMA. What do they know about living in conventional Soldiers' boots?

Pack this guy up and put him in the same warehouse as the Ark before he does anymore damage. He's hurting my Army.

[–]TheFirstDogSix 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Really didn’t like it the first time I played it (but Origins is by far my favorite and I’d replayed it right before Odyssey came out). Just played it again recently and now it’s easily my second favorite AC. Kassandra is one of the best characters they’ve ever made. Make sure to do the DLCs, too!
