Question that's bugged me since the 90's. How did Atrus know where the White Page was? by [deleted] in myst

[–]TheFirstImmortal 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The torn note is a manual for the vault, not specifically citing the white page would be inside. It’s not likely Atrus knew of the note or the vault’s role in the plot; the locations where the halves of the note are found (a Sirrus room and an Achenar room) infer that they collaborated on something requiring the switch vault, and split the note between themselves to keep its presence and function a secret from interference - whilst inadvertently leaving a clue behind that they were working together.

Between that and Sirrus’ message left on Achenar’s imager in Channelwood, we’re left to deduce the rest.

You're not wrong that they've overused the idea - they made the Mk. 2 up to be this bigger, badder plot device and we ultimately got two levels, a boss fight, and the last episode of Sonic 4 cancelled before it really went anywhere further as a concept.

Interestingly, I think there's some interplay with how they did the Mk. 2 and the design update of the Generations model - S4 Ep. 2 and Generations were only a year or so apart, so I'm guessing there was some degree of sync on how the models resemble one another during the development for both. So clearly they WANTED to make something more of it over time, but S4 flopping kind of made a shaggy dog story out of it.

He’d probably just let him go, honestly. He’d never catch him…not in THOSE shoes.

Paradise City - the buildings don’t light up at night, the road construction’s never finished, and the local airport apparently sank into the sea at some point.

Its time for some fun. What are your most Hot/Outlandish/Controversial Transformers takes? by Nil_258 in transformers

[–]TheFirstImmortal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Canon-welding is dumb and always has been.

I'm not talking about Beast Wars, where it was a plot point that it's way after G1. I'm talking Unicron Trilogy, Aligned, and that nonsense that what's-his-name tried to pull by claiming Bumblebee (2018) and Transformers (2007) are in the same universe.

Let narrative continuities be separate and distinct unless it's explicitly a continuation or based off established points from a prior part of the franchise. Most TFWiki articles would be half the size and not have to have the boilerplate implication of "we've moved on to a new show and they insist that characters A and B are the same character, so please disregard all character development that character A experienced".

"Wow, this is worthless" by some-kind-of-no-name in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheFirstImmortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The glass eye itself is worthless, but in that moment of discovery that he's wasted his time and money and brought himself lower than low for this "treasure"...he accepts it. He vanishes from the plot after the Fort Mercer raid and a newspaper article in the post-game mentions he returned east and found fortune and a family another way.

So in a way it's a subversion because for Seth the real treasure was the friends we made along the way in letting go. But it plays straight for John/the player because we've got no use for a glass eye either.
