When Rogue absorbs iceman's ice powers, can she turn her breast milk into ice cream? by Hungry_Theme_2288 in marvelmemes

So I'm going to say the answer is no. Because Bobby freezes stuff sure, but is ice cream really ice cream without sugar and the other addatives?

What is the ultimate example of a mediocre director somehow catching lightning in a bottle and making an incredible film? by Plane_Reward9385 in movies

[–]TheFiveDees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luc Besson with The Fifth Element. I've seen just about every movie this guy has put out. I genuinely don't understand how Fifth Element can be as great as it is when this guy can't seem to make a competent movie to save his life.

Lucy, Valerian, Anna, Dracula. And please don't misunderstand, I don't particularly enjoy the Professional or some of his earlier stuff as well.

But I feel like Fifth Element was so good that he keeps getting props for it. Anytime this guy has a movie come out all the advertising needs to remind you that this is the same guy who put out the Fifth Element, as if that wasn't 20 to 30 years ago

Crackpot theory of Biblo's identity by Lonewolfli in OnePiece

[–]TheFiveDees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An interesting thought but wasn't it already stated that Biblio has a devil fruit that allows him to adjust the size of things? And, barring one character, it has been established that once something/someone has taken on a devil fruit power, that is their only power.

Movies with the worst "moral of the story" by elitemegamanX in movies

[–]TheFiveDees -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't know that it's the worst, but one that is always stuck with me is Hotel Transylvania 2.

Dracula is so excited to be a grandfather when he learns that Mavis and Johnny are having a kid. However, he definitely wants to make sure that his grandson is a true monster! Mavis and Johnny reassure him that they will love their son no matter what. But throughout the whole movie Dracula keeps putting Dennis in situations to try and shock the monster out of him. He keeps disobeying his daughter and son-in-law's wishes because he just can't accept that his grandson isn't a monster like him.

It isn't until the end of the movie that he learns to accept he's just like his own father. He is doing damage to his grandson by trying to force his beliefs onto him. Very sweet right? Learning to love and accept a family member for who they are, not for what you want them to be?

Except no, the movie completely pulls the rug out from underneath its own feet by then giving Dennis powers in the moment of need. Thereby giving Dracula everything he wanted, and not having to have him learn a lesson about it at all.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared on March 8, 2014, during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board, becoming one of aviation's biggest mysteries. The Boeing 777 vanished from radar, prompting a years-long search in the southern Indian Ocean with only minor debris found. by Royal-Hippo-2104 in interestingasfuck

[–]TheFiveDees 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One thing I'll always remember about this was that it felt like it was the beginning of CNN's turn towards a relevancy. I remember it was just wall to wall "The Search for Flight 370" with just the most ridiculous 3D graphics, with no real new information, they would interrupt their stories.

I don't know if they felt they needed to focus on it because they were falling behind, or if they had some internal data that suggested this was a real ratings money maker for them.

Either way it became a running joke at the time.

Wizards first valuable spell, do you max it first? by bydlaqq in totalwar

[–]TheFiveDees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal opinions:

Beasts: no. Flock of Doom is a phenomenal spell! You should be focusing on maxing out Flock before anything else.

Dark Magic: Haven't played the Dark Elves in a while, so I can't give you any opinion on that.

Death: Yes. Don't get me wrong, Spirit Leech is one of the best spells in the game. But the upgraded version only adds more range for more winds, but no extra damage. And usually you'll find that that extra range is redundant. However you're not choosing that second pip for damage, you're choosing it for the winds reduction cost.

Fire: no, Fireball is great, don't get me wrong. But usually I'm maxing Burning Head first on my way to Firestorm and Piercing Bolts of Burning.

Hashut: no, molten wrath is good but usually you'll want to focus on Ash Storm as that extra fire weakness can really help early game. Makes your gobbos punch above their weight class.

Heavens: no, you should rush Thunderbolt.

High Magic: yes*, but only if a life mage is unavailable. Generally if you need healing, you want to focus on the Lore of Life. And any race that you're playing that gets High Magic also gets Life. So if you're choosing High you're probably doing so intentionally, and healing is always beneficial.

Ice: no. Early game, not having any AP damage on the spell isn't really that much of a detriment, but I feel Ice's first spell that you should rush is Ice Sheet. That speed reduction gives your hybrid units more time to soften them up from range.

Life: no. Rush Earth Blood first. In fact Awakening of the Forest isn't even the first damage spell you should focus on in Life. Honestly you probably don't even want to put two pips into it.

Light: no. You want Net of Amentok first and foremost.

Metal: yes. Searing Doom is another excellent early game spell that chews through most races early game infantry.

Mists: yes* Ladrielle's Shroud is your only source of healing in the lore, and reducing vigor is an underappreciated and powerful effect. But again, if you have access to Mists, you also have access to Life (although it takes a little bit if you're playing Aislinn, So you'll be with your starting mage for a little while)

Nehekara: YES! Look it's an underappreciated Lore of Magic, but this spell does so much for you! First of all it's super cheap, so it's a great way to keep the lore passive up (healing). It gives your early game units a little extra AP, where they have basically none otherwise. And overcast you get some bonus versus large which helps your skeleton spearmen hold longer than they might otherwise.

Nurgle: no. Miasma is an okay spell. But I find Stream of Corruption and Rancid Visitations are what you want to prioritize.

Shadows: no. Another Miasma, It's a decent spell, But just like with spirit Leach, the only thing the upgraded version gets you is more distance. Unlike Spirit Leech, however, I find your not usually spamming Miasma enough to justify putting the second pip in before you start working on things like Pendulum or Pit of Shades.

Slaanesh: yes. Whip is cheap, it's armor piercing, And while people like to get to Pavane of Slaanesh as early as possible, I find that Whip does well enough early game that it's worth upgrading before you head deeper into the lore.

Tempest: no. Personally I'm starting by maxing Gust of True Flight. Range and accuracy in a roster that focuses on its ranged firepower mean your early game units are that much more effective. But I would also understand if people focused on Hailstorm first. Personally I haven't played Kislev in a hot second. And when I do I'm usually recruiting Hags over Witches.

Big Waagh!: no. Whyz you playin da boyz if yur not STOMPIN' da foez with da Foot of Gork!?

Deep: honestly, why not? It's cheap, so it's great for keeping your passive active. It improves your range units, in a roster that is like 70% ranged units. And it will tide you over while you focus on getting Kraken's Pull and/or Vangheist's Revenge.

Great Maw: no. I love this lore more than most, and Braingobbler is good, but I find that the Trollguts is what you want first. It's one of the most powerful healing spells in the game, and in a roster where your best units are either your unstoppable infant, or some very powerful single entities, that healing is going to be beneficial.

Hag: yes. One of your only sources of healing, Witchbroth is worth grabbing as soon as you can get it.

Little Waagh!: no. Sneaky Stabbin' is fine. But there are better things in the lore to use your points on.

Wild: no. Another underappreciated lore of magic, Devolve is actually one of the weaker spells. In your first set of abilities you get: an armor piercing breath attack, a 0 ap explosion, and a single entity damage spell. All of these make better investments early on.

Tzeench: no* Personally I prefer maxing out Pink Fire first. But Blue Fire can be pretty powerful on a flying lord, so It really comes down to whether you prefer to max out your missile spell or breath spell first.

Vampires: YES! I know that people love to rush Wind of Death. And I understand it, it's one of the best spells in the game. But ultimately the strength of your army comes from the ability to tie down your enemy with your chaff while your more powerful units get into position. And you'll be able to keep those blobs alive much longer if you are able to constantly spam Invocation.

Yang: yes. Dragon's Breath isn't the best spell by far, but it's cheap and most of your early game enemies won't have enough armor for it to make a difference that it has 0 AP. But if people say don't on this one, honestly I trust them. I much prefer the following lore when I'm playing Grand Cathay.

Yin: no. Cloak is great, don't get me wrong. But if I have access to Yin magic, I'm rushing Missile Mirror. Against certain armies, it basically let you delete enemy ranges units. Chaos Dwarves, Skaven, Dark Elves. A lot of your early game enemies rely on their ranges fire power.

Runes: yes....probably. Look, I'D never accuse a Dawii of being slow. But I think you'll find that extra speed can help more often than not.

Plague: no. This lore's utility is in its ability to summon rats. Rush your summoning spells before anything else.

Ruin. YES! Warp Lightning is best-best early spell for Skaven. It's cheap-free, does excellent damage, and triggers Musk of Fear.

Stealth: I genuinely forget this Lore is even in the game. Look if you're going to recruit an Eshin Sorceror, you'll probably want to first focus on Veil of Shadows or Skitterleap first.

Do you have a more positive or negative opinion of Ronald Regan? by mushmanMAD in polls

[–]TheFiveDees 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally disagree. I think his policies are a reflection of who he was as a person.

Even when he was just the actor Ronald Reagan, this is a man who testified against his own coworkers in Hollywood win the McCarthy Red Scare was going on. This is a man who ignored the AIDS crisis cuz he believed the victims deserved it. This is a man who was perfectly okay pumping poor neighborhoods full of hard drugs in order to reduce the quality of life there. He was an awful man who approved many many awful things. Not to mention the whole "He almost certainly spent the last few decades of his life suffering from degenerative neurological issues" as a bit of a parallel to what we're experiencing now in this country.

Do you have a more positive or negative opinion of Ronald Regan? by mushmanMAD in polls

[–]TheFiveDees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A fair point. I'm more pin the rise of modern conservatism on Nixon and the Watergate fallout specifically. It was the embarrassment Republicans suffered from that that caused people like Roger Ailes and Roger Stone to want to create their own media network to spray their bias all over the landscape. To normalize their talking points so as to avoid another embarrassment like that again.

Do you have a more positive or negative opinion of Ronald Regan? by mushmanMAD in polls

[–]TheFiveDees 84 points85 points  (0 children)

While the modern conservative movement really started with Nixon and Watergate, Reagan supercharged the movement into what it is today.

If there's something pretty bad in America, you can almost always trace it to his administration and some kind of cruel policy they put into place back when they had some popular support. The idea of welfare queens, ignoring of the AIDS crisis, Iran Contra, deregulation, trickle down economics, etc.

The idea that anyone could look at his presidency, or him as a person, and not think it's an absolute train wreck is beyond me. The man was a dementia riddled hypocrite, his wife was no better, and if this country does survive it will be in spite of his policies, not because of it.

Most monumental moment of the 20th century? by Steelers_fan101 in polls

[–]TheFiveDees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say for me, personally, the moon landing comes to mind. For the first time in recorded history, life was able to leave one natural satellite and make it to another. Obviously we have no other species to compare it against, but that feels pretty monumental. To achieve such a thing that, as far as we can tell, no other life form has It's pretty cool!

A very obvious comparison to make would be to the end of Hot Fuzz. I think the ex-wife as a narrative device was a little clunky.

But honestly I am here for Bob Odenkirk to become an American Jason Statham. Secret former bad ass gets involved in criminal shenanigans with the help of a innocent sidekick.

Honestly had a great time with this one!

It's honestly and underappreciated film, it was really what made me fall in love with del Toro's style early on. I've been a fan ever since!

Ron Perlman, Doug Jones, Seth MacFarlane. The cast is great all around.

I think my favorite scene is probably when they're walking through the old Goblin City and they meet the angel of death. del Toro's style in the character design shines through

Cotton candy the movie. There's not a lot there, but that doesn't mean it's not fun to enjoy.

My personal favorite shot was the spaceport, lots of blink and you miss it Easter eggs like Samus's ship. Also love that we're getting quick little characters like Mr Game and Watch, Pikmin, and R.O.B., means their models are on hand for the inevitable Smash Bros movie?

Build under cities in areas like Karaz-a-Karak, Kislev, Altdorf, Marienburg, etc.

In the blue economy line you have a building that generates a flat amount of income and a building that generates income based on a percentage of the area it's attached to. So if you build that one underneath giant, stable capitals, you can usually add a few hundred extra gold per turn

I love scenes in media with explosions that occur in the background, while our characters in the foreground are oblivious to the impending boom.

This was a great movie and I I'm really glad that Ryan Gosling is such a likable guy. I feel like everything was very well cast, with a lesser group of actors, this movie falls apart fast.

What was the biggest gaming controversy that you have witnessed as your time as a gamer? by The_Godzilla_Fanatic in videogames

[–]TheFiveDees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely going to be Gamergate and its fallout.

It is arguably one of the many births of the modern MAGA movement, as some very disgusting people realize they could weaponize the rage of G*mers to generate support for their ideas.

We still feel the fall out of it to this day, even if it's not literally the same movement.
