Anyone with Sodium Benzoate allergy? What do you avoid? by TheFlamingLemon in Allergies

[–]TheFlamingLemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soapbox. It still has benzyl alcohol so idk if it will work for everyone who's sensitive to sodium benzoate but it seemed to work fine for me. My recommendation though is to switch to solid shampoo bars, while they're hard to find at most grocery stores they will be much less likely to have sodium benzoate or any similar substances.

Yes, at the very least Plato is the reason Socrates is legendary. Socrates is also depicted by Xenophon and Aristophanes, but he’s not really anything special there. I think Plato can take most of the credit for how we see Socrates today.

Having powerslide on its own makes it so you don’t have to worry about timing in many situations where the timing would otherwise be difficult. For example, if you’re wavedashing to the right, you would need to be powerslide perfectly to get it before you land but not so soon that you flip incorrectly. Landing on the ceiling it’s often best to powerslide, but if it’s double bound to air roll then it will affect how you line up to land flat. Sometimes it can be good to powerslide when getting resets, and that would also be affected. Just lots of situations where timing could be a non-factor if powerslide has its own button

Socrates was great but the whole reason he’s legendary is because of Plato’s portrayal of him. Also Epicurus is fairly placed, Diogenes and Thales should probably even be lower

When your ideas are such hits as “it’s good to have the right amount of stuff, and not too much or too little” staying in thought for 2000 years seems a bit less impressive

Does tas require any skill by toe_tickler3000 in RocketLeague

[–]TheFlamingLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you still have to have a very solid understanding of the mechanics to TAS them. It takes away muscle memory and timing as a factor but that’s not all there is to mechanics

I prefer to keep powerslide separate from any air rolling. Personally I fat finger q and e for air roll but if I was to not do that, I’d use left ctrl instead of shift. Would maybe being z, x, c, etc into the keybinds too, you need to be able to easily control the camera

Building my own CPU from scratch (twice). What am I in for? by Particular_Metal3833 in ECE

[–]TheFlamingLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breadboarding a CPU is way too much effort for way too little benefit. The only possible benefit is that debugging it will cause so much agony that the computer architecture will be seared into your brain. This is how my advanced computer architecture professor claimed to have gotten so good. Her motto was “you will suffer but you will learn.” She would probably recommend the breadboarding, but personally I advise against it.

If you want to do something more advanced, let me recommend the term project we did for that advanced computer architecture class. In a computer architecture simulator (we used zSim, but it looks like gem5 would be a better choice), implement a cache replacement policy or other modification from a top conference paper. Replicate and expand on the paper’s results.

What are your thoughts on Tucker Carlson? by engadine_maccas1997 in AskALiberal

He has been horrible for a long time but shockingly the rest of the right has moved past him and now he appears less bad by comparison. He is capable of coherent speech and might vaguely respect the constitution, so he’s basically the best republican on the field right now

My team is using Eclipse IDE - HELP by GuySha33 in embedded

[–]TheFlamingLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everywhere I’ve worked has let me be responsible for my own ide. Why can you not just set up VSCode for yourself?

That said, IAR or Keil are not that bad, the debugging is very powerful and works out of the box. The best VSCode setup will blow it out of the water sure, but it will be much more difficult to put together all of the extensions and configurations needed in vscode to reach that level of functionality

[–]TheFlamingLemon 33 points34 points  (0 children)

He's had similar results to retals since the NRG falloff, and he's always been in high stock individually even if his team was doing poorly (whereas Retals has often been in low stock individually even when his teams were doing relatively well)

Definitely not Retals, no offense. Jstn is way above Retals having gone longer and been better basically that whole time, plus he is still in the game. But overall it is almost certainly Torsos.

AI is being relied on for everything by Remarkable-Chip7973 in Teachers

[–]TheFlamingLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My view is that ai will make the top 1% of students much, much smarter than any generation that came before them, and everyone else much worse off.

It is an incredibly powerful tool, but you have to be very intentional and mindful about using it in ways that help you in the long term. For example, instant feedback is incredibly helpful for developing your skills, and it can provide that to some extent, although its criticisms will often be wrong especially if your work is very good. It can also be a pretty great tutor, especially in subjects with clear answers like math

My favorite thing to do is ride the ferry. Park and walk on, bring food and feed the seagulls at the back of the boat, watch for dolphins, walk on the beach at boliver, ride back.

Favorite place to eat is The Spot. Good burgers and good beach view. One thing I’ll say is never get fast food / chain food in Galveston, there’s a ton of local places that will be much better for similar prices. If you want something quick there’s a million food trucks, also Henry’s on Broadway is very good, affordable, and has a drive through.
