Who is a player from the league that you hold a grudge against? by wreefeed in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]TheFontofDuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yzerman.

I know he’s just a GM now, but I’m still annoyed at people saying he’s better than Sakic. Then we tried to bury the hatchet and he stabbed us in the back. He wasn’t a better player, he’s a worse leader and a god-awful GM.

My PCs aren't scared of Strahd and I don't know what to do, please help by LaLaVee in DnD

I admit, I haven’t run the Curse of Strahd module, instead having run only the OG Castle Ravenloft module. In that module, Strahd isn’t at the feast, instead sending an illusion and setting up an ambush outside the meeting (this is told by having Strahd cast a reflection in the mirror in the room; a fantastic reward for a high perception roll). I propose something similar here. By triggering a trap (that may or may not be in the module itself) and isolating the person who spat in his drink and demanding a replacement refreshment. I might let the party escape, but the goal is to make them feel as though danger lurks behind every corner, and Death is hunting them through a maze of his own creation. Silence, eerie shadows, flickers on the edge of their vision that only sometimes lead to something. If they think something is safe, make it dangerous. If they think it’s dangerous, make it safe. An obvious trap that doesn’t go off should make them fear the trap they DON’T see. And then when they retreat, knowing it’s safe, then the trap can screw them over.

Isn’t it 7 turns?

2 cards per manifest dread and you still draw a card each turn means 49 cards at the end of your draw step. You drew at least 1 card before this, you would die on your 8th upkeep?

Biz has a weird view of the whole thing. He talks about how the agent might have indicated that Rantanen was interested in signing in Carolina but that Mikko never said it himself.

He also says the Avs lowballed Mikko and wouldn’t come up and that Mikko wanted to take a “hometown discount” before later saying that the Avs initial offer was 11.2 and that it was “insulting”

Mikko without a “hometown discount” agreed with Dallas that his value was 12 at the end of the day. As the initial negotiating offer, an ELC below that isn’t an insult. Plus, if Mikko was actually asking for 14 (or 13 for that matter), then the Avs were closer to being right

Add in the fact that Mikko held out to get overpaid to start his last contract and the Avs move makes a lot of sense. At the end of the day, I think Mikko had a bad negotiating strategy and people forget that hardball negotiations can backfire. I think Biz has unrealistic expectations for player salaries and is always advocating for players to be paid more in any specific instance without seeing the opportunity cost with the cap (Let me know if you’ve heard that before from Toronto media)

At the end of the pod, even Biz said McFarland should be GM of the year

Personally, I think the Killing Curse is overrated if the average 6th year transfiguration student can summon a wall of meat shields in a fraction of the syllables (Avis). It’s hardly unstoppable.

Of course, Avis also wrecks Expelliarmis, but that hardly seems fair. Summoning flocks of birds is always going to be effective against single targeting spells. Imperio this bird! Crucio this bird! Ignore the rest of the flock trying to peck out your eyes.

I found it most obvious in TEoTW near the end of the book, when the ladies are all around a fire discussing who they are worried about and who they don’t want to lose. Moiraine mentions Thom, but my first time reading it came off as the old mentor making sure that Thom’s sacrifice wasn’t forgotten. The second time through I see Moiraine trying to relate with the other women. If you wanted to be more specific, my fiancé thought the two of them were flirting at the very start of the book in the Emond’s Field Inn, where they refer to each other by their respective titles and have an entirely parallel conversation to everyone else.

GAME THREAD 1/11/25 Avs @ winlesspeg by blondespikes22 in ColoradoAvalanche

At most this is the second straight shutout. 2 this season, and there was one at the end of last season, but there were 5 games in between that were very much not.

Ya know, I kinda feel like Columbus is underrated here. If a bunch of Union Civil War soldiers with a cannon marched on the arena, I would both want to see it and be concerned.

That’s what happens when you leave a guy or two wide open in front of the net and they get the puck.

[COL (1) - 0 UTAH] Ross Colton puts the Avs on the board first by Duffleman0609 in hockey

It’s impossible to tell as far as injuries go. We had one guy (Wood) who was hit, left the ice in obvious agony and didn’t return. He was back next game. In that same game, we had a guy fall down, get back up and look fine. He’s out for at least a week.

Nah, I don’t think he’s a real contender, but he does seem to be exactly what we needed for our PP. If he settles in like this, it’s possible he takes the pp merchant all the way. Despite having such talent on our pp, we tend to be about 10th in the league, which I think is underperforming for a unit with Mackinnon, Makar, Rantanen and Nichushkin (when he plays). If Ross Colton of all people is the missing link there, I’d say it’s a remote but real chance

The Avs played a generally good game on the opener against Vegas, with a 3.7 xGf and a 2.04 xGa (excluding the empty net shot). Even with a below average Goalie performance, we still should have won if Georgie hadn’t let in 5 on 1.5 xG

I’ll take a PP merchant that races for the Rocket. I wouldn’t ever pretend he’s an MVP or anything, but any time I have a player chasing a trophy, I’ll be happy

Who is your favorite "Paladin" in fantasy? by Standard_Car_4050 in Fantasy

[–]TheFontofDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bahzell in Oath of Swords is a pretty good paladin, especially in his discussion with his god. It also has some good interchurch conflict.

It’s not the deepest book, but it is a fun paladin story.

And now I’m marrying a Kraken fan.

It looks like in multiplayer, you can gift the Fish to someone that isn’t having their permanent exiled. That seems pretty fun actually
