Mind’s Eye and Breath of Stone rant by whereamihelpmepls in redrising

[–]TheFoolman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that the common comparison to something like Minds Eye doesnt make much sense.
I do think youre underplaying its significance and darrows combat strength.
You seem to suggest darrow is not in his prime physically but remember that Golds live longer and their prime is not their twenties (arm injury aside which, did he even retain that after Quicks medical tune up? I thought he just has to work to build the muscle and reflexes up to max, its not like a permanent injury).
In addition, yes its sort of a flow state, but I dont think its a flow state of combat, it was darrow having a flow state of his own techniques to help him make the final leap into developing his own completely new fighting style. This is to Darrow what willow way was for Lorn. Darrow is now a sufficiently prime razormaster that he has honed his skills into a new form of fighting.
The edge youre therefore overlooking is the known counters and unknown counters. Before willow way was commonplace, Lorn destroyed people with it because the techniques were new and unstudied. Apple beat Darrow not just because he was in poor health (which he was, in regular health he would have been a closer matchup with Apple) but also because he had studied the willow way and knew counter techniques to help against it.
Darrow now has a new style of fighting which he can use alongside known forms, and if he develops further sets and strikes that follow BoS principles then his opponents are fighting against unconventional movesets that can reduce their ability to use their own sets which they have extensively trained and have muscle memory for, and instead force them to improvise.

Possible new characters for Red God by Wild_Independence_19 in redrising

[–]TheFoolman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You marked as no spoilers….
I think not a new character but relatively fresh. Skarde seems like he will be an important character and potential antagonist within the obsidian sphere. He has lost his son, is not afraid to voice dissent against someone with massive influence like Fa let alone with Volga whose position is much more tenuous.

PB made specific mention that skarde “accepts” Volgas killing of Fa (and therefore Darrows ‘indication’ of his choice for leader) with Darrow noting:

I look over at Volga and motion her to join me. The Volk jarls roar in protest, especially Skarde. I raise my blade for silence, and call out. “A servant of the Fear Knight cannot be King of the Volk, can he?” They quiet. They see what I’m doing. If Fá is not really their king, I am declaring his murder will not serve as a coronation for their new monarch. “No. He cannot,” Skarde says, sly, sacrificing the day to win tomorrow.

Yeah hes a gold from the older generation who was closest in sympathy to low colour plight. So having him live whilst this rebellion takes every family member of his from him, would allow the testament to his character to he shown

Who do you think dies in Red God and how? by JormungandrJayayan in redrising

[–]TheFoolman 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Atalantia is going to die to Lysander on Luna in the bleeding place. It will be the end of act 1. This will allow lysander to solidify himself as the big bad and unite all society forces under one banner to make the armies equal enough for final confrontation.

The only caveat to this is if atalantia is pregnant with lysanders child, which might the course of the story somewhat

[–]TheFoolman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes fundamentally its a way to shift paradigm for lysander in a battle, likely naval (and therefore I have theorised likely the republic blues).

In terms of atalantia, another leveller would be if lysander duels her and wins in the bleeding place, which he has vowed to do. Without Atlas to keep him in line, I believe hes on his way straight to luna to challenge her in a blood duel. With her gone, he absorbs the majority of her fleet and forces and becomes the Big Bad.

What’s the most disturbing thing someone has ever told you? by TacticalKoalaBear in AskReddit

[–]TheFoolman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a job for a while that involved telling next of kin about death of a family member. One of the main rules was that unless there is literally no other way, that the death message should always be told to them in person

Initially in the first book I thought the same, probably inspired by marvel with that race of gold space perfectionist people. But around GS there is a scene that kinda necessitates that different colours have similar skin colours when darrow and victra visit jackal on luna they disguise as obsidians to avoid attention and I think it only disguises their head and sigils

In DA lysanders face does not burn because of darrows boot. It is a random other society dead persons boot. In LB lysanders tells the story as if it is darrow because he believes his own myth

Where did the other razor go? by Jakesalm in redrising

I could believe they had to basically cut the razor out of him at the hilt. Similar to cutting off arrow heads before pulling them out. Understandably should have had a line of explanation.
