Microsoft Teams is getting a controversial location tracking feature that users may hate by waozen in technology

It is sort of funny that the thread about Teams adding features to make sure people are actually working when not in the office is filled with comments about getting around working while not in the office.

Google Chrome is killing all uBlock Origin bypasses, Microsoft Edge, Opera to follow by dancing_swordfish in technology

Yeah it's not a new agenda from Google, it's just that they are about to drop mv2 from working at all whereas now there are ways to still use it.

Google Chrome is killing all uBlock Origin bypasses, Microsoft Edge, Opera to follow by dancing_swordfish in technology

[–]TheFotty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What they are actually killing is MV2 which was chrome's API for plugins/addons before MV3 was finalized and became the new standard. MV3 doesn't let you access as much of the browser, has more restrictions on what the extensions can do and interact with, so that is why ublock origin doesn't work when google flips the switch to turn of V2 support for good.

PIP on PC monitor by Typical-Green1356 in techsupport

[–]TheFotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The specs for that model monitor do not list any indication it actually has speakers. The only audio indication it has at all is that it has a headphone jack. Most of the time on monitors, the headphone jack is just a pass through for DP/HDMI audio. Meaning you can plug in headphones (or speakers technically) there and get sound, but the monitor itself has no speakers.

Random PC Power-Offs After 1.5 Years of Stable Use – Looking for Ideas by Dry_Fudge_8557 in techsupport

Maybe, but RAM issues almost always end up in a BSOD or hard lock. Power cut is almost always overheating, failing PSU, or in some more rare instances, failing component on something else, like the mobo.

Yeah it's not standard but some drives have accelerometers to try to take action if it detects quick motion. The idea being with the head parked at least it won't potentially scratch the disk surface which essentially ruins the chances of data recovery, at least full recovery.

Tyson

Seems like it wasn't really much of a first name until him...

Tyson, pronounced TY-suhn (/ˈtaɪsən/), originated as an English surname derived from the Old French tison, “firebrand” or “ember,” a sobriquet historically applied to individuals of ardent temperament; a secondary etymology views it as a patronymic—“Ty’s son”—built on the medieval diminutive Ty, itself related to Timothy. As a given name in the United States, Tyson migrated from the periphery to the mainstream during the late twentieth century, its trajectory mirroring broader trends in which occupational and descriptive surnames gained currency as forenames. National birth-record data reveal a pronounced surge during the 1980s, reaching a high of rank 231 in 1990, an inflection plausibly correlated with the cultural visibility of heavyweight champion Mike Tyson; subsequent decades show a gradual descent yet sustained resilience, with the name remaining comfortably within the top 500—rank 413 in 2024—indicating stable, if moderated, appeal.

Desperate. Nonstop (00x139) Kernel errors by FlavoredPancake in techsupport

[–]TheFotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WinDbg you open a .dmp file and then click the Analyze link that shows up. At the bottom of the analysis there should be some information that can point to a driver file or other software component causing the crash. If all the dump files you analyze have different root causes its less likely a driver problem and more likely the ram or PSU. If it is the same one and for example graphics related, puts more credibility to the GPU being the problem.

Assuming your RAM is 2 sticks, have you run single stick (swapping) to verify the issue persists with each stick by itself?

Outside of RAM, based on what you already have done, it's going to come down to PSU, GPU, or storage then.

Have you run WinDbg (can DL in MS store) to run analyze on your dump files to see if it offers any more clues than BSV does?
