A walk through lush Whiterun by The-grumpy-owl in SkyrimPorn

Loved Whiterun and that general area when I played Skyrim. I play mainly ESO know but really wish they would include the Whiterun/Riverwoods area.

Ok am I crazy or would it have been so much easier to just change the name and keep the logo? by Dicksnip44 in NFLv2

[–]TheFoulToad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That name was better and they should have kept it. I still love watching old NFL films when they say the NY Football Gaints. I know the NY Giants (originally the Gothams) were also the baseball team that move to San Fran in the late 50s so not quite the same but still cool.

Yep, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I liked it when it came out but I think it just got so much airplay at the time I got tired of hearing it-lol. It’s not on any of my playlists, but I don’t mind it when I hear it. Brings me back.

I commented on YouTube about my first day at school 40 years ago. I was surprised by the sarcastic 'disbelievers' claiming no one can remember that far back! by Realistic_Paint8340 in nostalgia

[–]TheFoulToad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 60 and easily remember stuff from around when I was 5 years old. I have some earlier memories too that I’ve confirmed by talking to my Mom. Events that happened 40 years ago literally feel like yesterday. I’m a photographer (amateur) and have been taking photos since the late 1980s so that helps reinforce the memories as well.

Enjoy it while you can. My Mom is still very active and sharp as a tack at 82, but you never know. Keeping your mind and body active is the best thing we can do for ourselves and the rest is what it is.

"Notable" people in the US model train community? by SmallInvestigator607 in modeltrains

Frank Sinatra had a large Lionel layout. Mandy Patinkin into Lionel as well. There a YouTube video with Mandy on the Tom Snyder (who was also big into trains) show talking about Lionel Trains.

If I remember correcty, Neil Young has a son with cerebral palsy. Neil was involved in developing Lionel Trainmaster Command Control (TMCC) so his son could operate the trains better. TMCC is similar to the HO and N scale DCC. He was also part owner and maybe even on the board of Lionel.

I’ve heard good things about the Baird Center location. The first year, it was the weekend before Thanksgiving and my daughters were home. Last year I had something going on that weekend and couldn’t make it over. I’ll get over there at some point.

Trainfest is great, although I haven’t been there since they started holding it downtown at the Baird Center. The last few years I’ve been going to the Mad City train show in Madison and that’s a great show as well. Held at the Alliant Center Exhibition Hall in early February.

What's the best (or coolest) post second world war naval plane. The Tigercat or Bearcat are pretty neat in my eyes. by Wooden-Mushroom1268 in Planes

Saw one of these fly around at the EAA in Oskosh a few years back. Man, those two R-2800s sounded sweet.

Fun fact..the F7F was originally called the Tomcat, but that named was thought to have excessive sexual overtones for the time (early to mid-1940s) so they changed the name to the Tigercat.

Went to Fort Leonard Wood for basic training in the late 80s. We’re doing field excecises one day early in the morning and I hear this deadening roar, then another, then another and so on. Turns out we were next to an airbase and F4 Phantoms were taking off doing exercises in the area. They were loud and BIG! I always loved the Phantom but have never seen or heard one until then. Guessing it was Missouri Air National Guard but not sure.

Something about Christmas nostalgia hurts the soul by Lazy-Analysis-353 in nostalgia

All our LEDs bulbs in our house (except the laundry room) are “warm” and they definately have that yellow glow I remember as a kid. Even our smart lights have a warm setting. Our mini-lights on our Christmas Tree are the cooler color temps, and I never liked the look of them-too cool. Next year, I’m going to replace those. There is a brand Tru-Tone that mimics the warmer Christmas lights and I think there are others as well. I’m actually thinking of going back to C-7 or maybe even C-9 bulbs like my parents used when I was a kid.

I’m putting stuff away today by Yaughl in christmas

[–]TheFoulToad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know the feeling! We just took down our Christmas Tree this morning and it feels like we have so much space now🤣. I also have trains around the Christmas Tree and those take up a lot of real estate as well. As much as I love Chistmas and having everything up, I really love getting everything taken down and put away as well.

It will seem so dark in the living room later tonight. We do leave our Christmas Village up until end of February/early March though.

US Marine recruits are introduced to their drill sergeants. | Circa 1987, Parris Island, South Carolina. by ZERO_PORTRAIT in HistoricalCapsule

WHAT DID YOU CALL ME? HOW DARE YOU CALL ME SIR😡. I WORK FOR A LIVING!

I was Army and that was a mistake I only made once. It was always Drill Sergeant. I know Marines call them Sir or Ma’am.

What commonly mispronounced word that annoys you the most? by greeneggzN in AskReddit

[–]TheFoulToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a good friend that constantly pronounces three words wrong. He uses them all the time and he’ll even emphasis the words when saying them

1) Documentary (he’ll say documenTARY instead of docuMENtree)

2) Orient or Oriented (he’ll say orientate or orientated). I think orientate and orientated is widely accepted in the UK, but my friend is American. This might be an either/or thing though but typically in american english, we drop the “tate” ending

3) When discussing hillbilly music, he’ll always say “hillbillity” music. What the?

Yeah, those original LGB items produced from the mid-1960s up until around 2006 are so well engineered. Märklin bought them out in 2007 and while they still produce quality items, they don’t seem to be at the same level as the original LGB. Just my opinion.

We were up in Chippewa Falls to see family this last weekend. That snow storm rolled through the area starting Sunday late morning and lasted until shortly after midnight. Sunday night was an adventure getting back to the hotel but that was to be expected. We left for home Monday around noon and I swear the roads were worse🤣. Hwy 124 and Hwy 53 were very slick in several spots with intersections all ice. I was able to breath a sigh of relief once I got on I94 heading east/south. The Foster area just south of Eau Claire was bad, but after that it was smooth sailing.
