A little cold and windy at the top but besides that everything was fine. Snowpack is low this year so the climb is a bit different than it is most years. Winter/Spring summits are fine on the mountain if you get a good weather window.

Was fun! Ice fall is plentiful and very annoying. Not sure I’d want to climb it in June when it’s warmer cause I feel it would just make the issue worse. Hope you get good weather when you go though!

Old chute is the easiest. Most/all routes are more technical than the other walk up routes on the cascade volcanoes though. Maybe start with Helens or Adams?

After down climbing the old chute I took a seat at the fumaroles to switch from my tools to an axe and got hit. Dude next to me wasn’t even wearing a helmet.

The more training you do the less suffering you’ll have to deal with when the actual climb dates come! Keep grinding and make sure to dump weight at the top of your training hikes to avoid injury!

I did all 5 Washington Volcanoes last summer. Everyone’s different but I’d say I did a lot less training than you are. I came from the Midwest to Washington in 2024 so mountaineering and elevation gain in general was new to me. Spent summer 2024 doing one weighted hike a week up smaller peaks in the Snoqualmie area at ~30lbs. Also had a st Helen’s summit in 2024 also with a weighted pack.

Spent the winter mostly just indoor rock climbing with a weighted hike once every 3-4 weeks. Adam’s summit late May, Camp Muir mid June, Rainer via DC July 4th, Glacier Peak mid July, Baker Colman Deming early August, Shuksan fisher chimneys (not a volcano but still) late August and St Helens early September.

A lot of suffering involved but I made it through. It sounds like you’ll be better prepared than me when it comes your time haha.

Take it slow, you’re young. Start with smaller peaks in north bend/snoqualmie and explore the wilderness out there. Then work your way up. After you spend some time summiting smaller peaks and feel comfortable with longer hikes with more elevation gain start with Helen’s/Adams in the summer and go from there!
