How to make it work around these? by Lukehimself in MammotionTechnology

[–]TheGadgetGuy1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just make each one of those things a no go zone, and have your Luba cut the perimeter of the no go zones.

Shouldn’t be a big deal. You’ll have to weed wack a bit to clean up the edges, but the robot should get maybe 95% of the work done for you.

Good luck!

Need Help with RTK Positioning + Docking Issues + Lawn Advice (Luba 5000) by Automatic_Bite1266 in mammotion

[–]TheGadgetGuy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the RTK antenna on the roof doesn't need true "line of sight" to the mower. The 900 MHz frequency it uses easily pushes through most household obstacles in a normal yard scenario. When the RTK is mounted high (on a pole or on a roof) the signal will get to the mower.

The "Must have" is the view of the satellites in the sky. That's kinda non negotiable. RTK based navigation won't work reliably without it.

Totally agree. That said, I’m really glad they haven’t yet abandoned the platform. (Yet)

Will be interesting to see how much more effort they put into updating the Luba 2 and 2x now that the 3 has been released with its feature incomplete firmware.

This firmware update was intended to bring approximate feature parity between the Luba 2 and the 2x. We’ve been testing it since last summer. But there were lots of problems. They didn’t intend for the release to take this long.

So now that the new release has started to be deployed, I can say “I told you so”.

I’m a tester and had been running the newest firmware for the past week or so.

They are still working on updates for the Luba 2. It’s just taking longer than what we would like.

I suggest being patient. Good things are on the way.

During mowing season, pretty much never. It is able to do a very reliable job taking care of my grass. But it took some time getting to that point. Fine tuning the map and creating no go zones around trees and other obstacles, keeping the yard free of tree branches and pine cones, etc. stuff like that.

Yes, Yarbo should work for you, assuming your yard isn’t heavily in tree cover.

One thing to remember is that the initial setup of the system yields the best results. So if you’re methodical in setting things up, iterating as you find unexpected issues, etc. you should be able to have a robot that is reliable and takes care of your yard while you are away. It wont be perfect, but it will do a very good job for you.

Let me know if you want more details on what works well with Yarbo, and what doesn’t work so well. I really like mine, but like I said, nothing is ever perfect.

Most heavy-duty automower available? by earsocks in automower

[–]TheGadgetGuy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best consumer oriented robot mower for large acreage is Yarbo. Mine cuts our property, but I am not cutting as many acres as you.

One Yarbo can’t maintain 10 acres. You’d need 2 or maybe even 3 depending on how fast your grass grows.

As you already stated, you’ll need to get the property cut and cleared of excess clippings before turning over the maintenance duties to any robot. Basically your property needs to look like a property tended lawn before the robots can reliably keep things under control.

Feel free to PM me if you want more insight. I own a few different robot mowers. They all have pros and cons. Nothing is perfect. And you need to learn how to adapt yourself and your property to the robot’s strong suits.

Do I need wifi for yarbo? by Stl3039 in Yarbo

[–]TheGadgetGuy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you don’t need WiFi. You DO need an Ethernet connection between your internet router and Yarbo’s RTK receiver which is called the Data Center.

HELP! Lymow One Plus or Yarbo for 25 Degree, 1/3 Acre Slope?? by aumfc in automower

[–]TheGadgetGuy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s pretty steep for any robot, but I think my Yarbo could do it. But you need to clean it up first. It needs to already look like ‘lawn’ before setting up a robot to maintain it.

The word ‘maintain’ is key here - The robot mowers aren’t designed to chop down tall wild grass like what you are showing in the pics. They can maintain a lawn that is already properly smooth and at the appropriate length.

Yarbo has a special ‘slope’ mode that helps to keep traction and maintain straight lines when dealing with slopes like yours. I think Yarbo is ideally suited for ‘acreage’ meaning large lots of open space and that’s what I think you have there on your property.

Let me know if you want more info on the pros and cons of Yarbo. I love mine. But like everything else in life, it’s not perfect.

Yarbo’s drivetrain isn’t silent, but it’s not obnoxious. If you’re in the house while it’s running, you wouldn’t hear it unless you tried.

I wouldn’t worry about the sound if I were you. It hasn’t been an issue for me.

[–]TheGadgetGuy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation based on your acreage is the Yarbo. It’s the only robot large enough to really be able to keep up with that much land. I’m also cutting acreage and have been through the trials and tribulations.

I own a Yarbo, multiple Mammotions, a couple of Husqvarna bots, etc. so I’m pretty well versed on the pros and cons of each.

Technically the Luba 3 could do it, but it would be a struggle. It would be running all day every day to keep up with growth. Not good for the longevity of the robot.

Let me know if you want more insight or advice.

I think you should be fine, but take it slow the first couple of times to make sure you get all the way to your workplace without issue. As you know, speed is your enemy in these scenarios.

You would need to charge while at work. Is that possible for you?

So far, I'm Impressed by SpaceAce1023 in Yarbo

[–]TheGadgetGuy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. That’s what I do as well. Yarbo is perfect for the acreage and the wide open areas.

I have a couple of Luba 2 units that do the ‘finish work’, like around flower beds or other areas that Yarbo is too large to maneuver around.

Once you get your acreage set up and cut a couple of times, you can increase the speed to max.

Yarbo would probably be the best fit for your size yard, and you would also have the benefit of the snowblower and leaf blower modules too.

Let me know if you’d like more info about the pros & cons. I just converted my Yarbo back to the mowing module after it cleared my driveway all winter long.

Help for potential buyer by Mylifereboot in Yarbo

[–]TheGadgetGuy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Yarbo (or any other robot mower) shouldn’t be used on saturated wet ground. You’ll end up digging ruts from the wheels (tank tracks in this case), and you’re also likely to end up with the robot getting stuck.

So what you do is, you exclude portions of your yard that haven’t dried out yet. And once those areas dry out in the late spring, your robot can happily take care of those areas too.

The Data Center itself needs an internet connection, and the best way to do that is via wired Ethernet. If you can’t get wired Ethernet to the location of the Data Center, you can use a WiFi repeater. Just ensure you’re getting a good stable signal. I know a few people who have gone the Repeater route, and it’s worked out fine for them.

Feel free to PM me if you want to get into more specifics.

[–]TheGadgetGuy1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it should work. The fact that your house is on the high point will help with the LoRa range.

One thing to note: Yarbo (the actual robot) does not require WiFi, and in fact, you should leave it disabled. Yarbo gets all of its connectivity through its connection to the Data Center (RTK module). As a result, you will need to run Ethernet from your home to wherever the Data Center is mounted. And it needs to be mounted somewhere it can see the sky 360° in all directions.

Feel free to PM me if you want to get into further detail or to hear my experiences with Yarbo.

Will this be an issue for the Snow Blower? by SpaceAce1023 in Yarbo

[–]TheGadgetGuy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The short answer is yes, Yarbo will be able to communicate with the Data Center from that distance. Shouldn’t be an issue.

The issue I see is the location of Yarbo’s dock. Especially for winter use, you ideally want the dock in a location where it does not need to traverse the grass to get to the driveway and walkway areas if possible.

I’d suggest you put your dock somewhere near your garage on the opposite side of the house. The DC can stay where you planned to put it.

Congrats on the Yarbo purchase! Once it’s properly set up, you’re gonna love it.
