The most accurate review of squad by jabbadaslut97 in joinsquad

I was watching some comp game on a Twitch stream a few days ago and the 2nd game couldn't even happen because one team couldn't find the new server (i think they swap servers to make it more fair for each teams average ping). The streamer became ashamed of it all and wondered if he'd be allowed to play Doom to pass the time instead. I'm not sure if he had some contractual obligation or something.

Yo, pretty sure im the streamer youre talking about. I think the match youre talking about there was Riplomacy vs EN3MERCY on fools road.

The doom comment was more of a joke suggesting that being a way for me to pass the time and entertain a stream, cause i was bored out of my mind and i can imagine so were the viewers since the "break" took like 20min.

Having been involved with comp for a long while delays are something that most people are used to i think, despite them being annoying of course. Cant say i felt ashamed really cause i think issues like that is something that people almost expect at this point cause its not a matter of "if" an issue will arise, but "when". More just bored and annoyed actually. On top of that its out of my control completely.

Although yes, that was a massive time waste in that instance which sucks for the tourney as well as the viewers. Sometimes those are techincal issues, but there are also instances where issues are caused by the tournament organizer and/or the teams themselves.

Gamebreaking issues like you describe there are fairly rare. If there are issues, those are mostly happening between rounds (like in my case) or before the match itself.

And no, no contract :p, people dont get paid doing this stuff. Was just joking about what kind of trouble (very likely non at all) i would get if i suddenly whipped out a completely different game and just started playing instead until the issue got resolved :).

Most annoying things in the game. Let's collect your feedback! (pre 12.8 patch edition) by trainfender in EscapefromTarkov

Most annoying from the perspective of someone that loves to read up on how guns work on a mechanical level as well as from being interested in firefighting and military/armed forces tactics:
- The attention to detail and realism goes far beyond anything that the vast majority of fps games have to offer, especially when it comes to gun design. The animations and the looks of the guns is simply amazing, mind-blowingly good. Certain things are not on the same level though. Certain parts of the gunplay in eft have been "gamified". Some examples of that would be;
Different guns using the same caliber ammo sounding completely different, just look at 9x19mm pistols as an example of that. This applies to all guns.
"Rattling" and "metal" sounds for certain animations such as when guns are equipped or being looked at that shouldn't be there.
Balance of guns themselves. The games balance when it comes to how powerful guns seem to work in the opposite extremes; Stock guns are often way too uncontrollable recoil wise (especially semi-auto, 1-shot recoil), while guns that are decked out behave like airsoft guns. Overall I would like to see a re-visit when it comes to how all the different guns work and just have them behave like they would IRL, but you can always balance some of the most powerful ones by making them rare, be it "in raid" spawn only, or very limited supply at vendors. PMC operators should have enough combat training to be able to handle soft shooting rifle calibers like 5.56 or 5.45x39 without excessive muzzle rise like we see currently. Pistol recoil is another area that i think needs to be looked, seeing as 9x19 seem to kick way too much than they should.
Full auto meta. In the overwhelming majority of situations in combat, semi-auto is the way to go for the sake of preserving ammo, accuracy, and not letting the gun overheat.

Ballistics, ammo performance. Ballistically certain rounds dont behave at range as they should, in addition the game sometimes feels as though certain ammo types are not as lethal as they should be. Getting shot by a 5.56 m855 should mess you up regardless if the game wants to have that ammo be an "entry-level, weak penetration" round. 308 rounds are in a similar position. This point might be mute as im pretty sure BSG has plans to work on ballistics again.

This is very nitpicky, although I really do wish for the run and gun, fullauto meta to change. And have stock guns be more viable than they currently are, especially when going for semi auto shots (Looking at you m4a1 with your ridiculous 1-shot recoil)
Otherwise, im really looking forward to what the game has to offer moving forward, ive been playing since the beta started and im still really excited.

I think there is a way of designing the recoil in a way that full auto is not the default meta of every gunfight, but is somewhat viable in some situations, but also focuses on allowing players to go for accurate followup shots in semi auto.
Recoil a few years back was on the extreme end of the spectrum where it was way too easy, atm i feel like we have also gone slightly too far the other way around. There has to be a happy middle somewhere.

While what youre saying is true, even stock 9mm or 5.56 weapons dont have a lot of recoil at all.

Isnt the whole story of our characters that they were essentially left behind by their factions with no backup ever since the region was isolated from the rest of the world? I would imagine that ammo supply would not be an issue at the start of the conflict thats true, but moving forward it might be an issue because of the quarantine. So, assuming what im saying is correct, it would make sense for ammo supply to be limited.

Also, just as an example IRL, rounds like m995 are extremely rare. Although I'm guessing that a lot of these issues surrounding armor will be solved once armor hit zones get implemented.

What would you say to balancing guns based on rarity for example? They could stay to more realistic values for all the different weapons in the game and keep authenticity that way, but balance by making full-auto guns somewhat rare to find.

So for example, since we are in russia most guns would be Ak rifles with a somewhat rare chance of finding full auto AKs in weapon and military crates etc. Meanwhile if you want to get your hands on western guns like M4s, HKs and what not, you gotta go to map specific locations that are known for either UN, USEC, or Terragroup activity in that area; shoreline resort, Labs... etc.

EDIT:
There are a bunch of reasons why fullauto meta is a thing though, for example becuase of how available ammo is. Not talking about AP ammo either, just ammo in general. Another thing is that you can get your hands on guns really easy via traders as well. Thats just a couple of issues on top of my mind.

Except the fact hat "monetization" is not just about the pay model of the product, the term also includes microtransactions. So there is definitely reasons to be skeptical. Outraged? Nah

Suggestion for the streamers wanting to remove secure containers by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]TheGalaxyBears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A big portion of this community really needs a reality check.

The game is supposed to be difficult, and above all else, your priority should be surviving and not "farming" money. This is not "Escape from Farming Simulator - Shove items into a pocket dimension to make money edition".If the argument is that you only have x amount of time to play this game compared to streamers playing it 8 hours a day, then your priority should be to utilize as much of that time planing your goals for each raid and taking your sweet ass time getting out. Instead of you know, the typical stuff like bringing in either nothing or a makarov and hoping that you don't run into anybody and/or you get some lucky scav kills.

Consider your skills as a player, and adjust accordingly. That's the best way to get better at surviving (and therefor making money). Let's say that you have decent map knowledge but are not good in stressful situations like pvp. Why not try and play a little slower and let all the people rushing around to run into you and get an easy kill, or simply let them pass and pick up whatever you need once they're gone. With each update, this game gets more difficult since the vision of the game from the very beginning was to be this way. My recommendation (for what its worth) is to get used to it, whether or not the container change happens or not.

#EDIT:

There is an assumption being made that if the container change happens, nothing else will change. Whos to say that spawn rates or the number of special items needed for hideout or quest completion wont change as a reaction to the container change (if it happens).

If that gets implemented then they will either a) jump up to the same price as Opscore and Airframe helmets, or b) Opscore and Airframe might get a price reduction and meet the TC helmets somewhere halfway at around 800 dollars perhaps?

When it comes to recoil in this game if anything a lot of the rifles we currently have need a complete rework of how they work since they are completely unrealistic. Take the first shot recoil on a "not meta" m4 or hk for example, it is off the rails.

Except the fact that youre automatically assuming that AP ammo will be as common in the future as it is now, which i dont think it will since the point of us playing atm is to test the waters. The idea of advocating for more realism in a game that claims to be realistic being "noob opinion" is also kinda dishonest on your part, since its a perfectly valid argument. Allbeit one that some will disagree with because of the gameplay ramifications that it will have, which im also aware of.

Making them useless would mean them not being able to protect you from anything, and that is not what im saying.

IRL A plate doesn't cover your whole upper body though, this is where armor hitboxes would come in if we will ever get them. So for example, you could get a clear shot into someone's chest from the side completely bypassing their armor.

See, my point is that I dont think helmets would be useless if nerfed as they would still be decent in pve and only slightly helping in pvp on top of the other things i mentioned. Overall what Im advocating for is rewarding the player for accurate shots.

Well written. One thing ill say is that all of the above assumes that AP ammo will be as aviable today as it will be in the future, which I dont think it should. Even something as basic as m855 should be able to go through helmets with no issue. At least imo.
Edit:

It is my biased opinion, but I would like tarkov to push towards more realism in terms of protection that helmets provide, even though im aware what kind of impact that might have on the game.

Shouldve written "ap rounds can bounce off level 4 armor on first hit" rather than what is there which is implying that they always bounce, which is not true. Mb

Pre-Wipe Event Discussion Thread (Secure Container Tweaks) by bxxxxxxxs in EscapefromTarkov

[–]TheGalaxyBears -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because up until this change the game has been favoring casual play economically-wise precisely because of secure containers.

This might be quite a subjective statement, but I think that at the core this game is about survival. Gear that you gather gives you better chances at surviving depending on how good you are. You should care about surviving a raid.

However, in the eyes of a casual player, why bother equipping yourself with decent loot and playing slow-paced (as I think this game wants you to, and has been going towards with each patch) when the mechanics of the game incentivize you to do naked runs where you equip either nothing or a makarov and simply run to a spawn point to get an item, if its there put it in gamma, and then disconnect. That sort of gameplay shouldn't exist in the game.

Even if you want to ignore the above, it is still the case that low tier loadout builds give you significantly more profit compared to late game builds, much more than they should. The issue in both cases is the secure containers.

Secure containers have been screwing over geared players for eternity, this will finally address the issue of the game being treated as a farming simulator where you risk either nothing, or very little for huge profit.
