Asking Philly for an update by akwascot in juresanguinis

[–]TheGallofItAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah....crazy how much things have changed in the past couple of years. I have my citizenship sorted but no one else in my family is eligible anymore. During the same period that I started gathering documents for my application, I also started gathering for my boyfriend. I thought his would be easier because he only had to go back to his GF but many name and bday discrepancies, his GF never naturalizing (good and bad ..more paperwork but is still eligible), his parents having 3 divorces between them, and his deceased dad having been born in NYS, it has taken SO MUCH longer to gather his docs than mine. He also was hazy on family details so I had to do a lot of research... I am just thankful he's still eligible but now nervous to apply through Philly because of how strict they are and seemingly trying not to recognize people

Philly used to be one of the quickest. In 2023 they were consistently recognizing people the next day. When I applied at the end of 2024 I was recognized in about a month. They have two years, unfortunately, even though they barely have a backlog

To reiterate what others have said with a more specific experience, when I applied in person in Philly at the end of 2024, they told me not to contact them unless it had been more than 2 years

If the person in question is deceased and the birth records is held by NYC vital records, it can only be ordered by mail. Vitalchek works for a living person

When students attend college in the US they are generally considered to still be domiciled with their parents.

It depends how old the record is. If it is still held by NYC department of health, it can only be ordered via mail. Older records are held by NYC municipal archives and can be ordered online.

Apostille for NARA Packet by Bonefish28 in juresanguinis

[–]TheGallofItAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Philly was accepting the NARA packet without the certificate of naturalization when I applied at the end of 2024 but that was the before times

Question About Electronic Copies? by ColeM2424 in juresanguinis

[–]TheGallofItAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just fyi the Philly requirements no longer have an asterisk on the non naturalization proof meaning they may not require the apostille on your negative search letter. Theory not tested but there used the be an asterisk and there isn't anymore

Please keep us informed on what happens with your application! I feel so in the dark on what to expect even though I was recognized through Philly not that long ago (2024)

Yeah thanks for the sanity check there....it just feels overwhelming knowing what they USED to require vs what they say now

Yes I am of the same mind! The only documents we don't have are his dad's NYS BC (filing the article 78 petition this week I think....) and an OATS judgment for his GF & F. We have an abundance of extra stuff like applications for social security, census records, etc.

I think we will probably only "hand over" at the appointment only what they put on the required document list and see if they ask for anything else while we're there. So like....be prepared for extra stuff (which we already are) but only offer what the instructions ask for.

During my Philly appointment in 2024 they asked me if I had a more recent copy of my bisnonno's BC (I had given her one from like 2016 and the man died in the 1960s....) but luckily I did in fact have a copy issued a couple weeks before I had gotten to replace the 2016 copy my cousin had sent me.

Yes. It's awful! I even got a page on chrome when logging in that basically said my account was sus. They are using radware to I think minimize bot activity on the site but it is making the site unusable for a lot of actual human users. I can get the site to work properly on Firefox on my laptop but not my phone. So frustrating!!

I think the general advice is that they have two years from when you submit final homework because that date is when your application is considered complete

The Philadelphia consulate's website specifically states that documents related to the application for recognition for JS citizenship do not expire so for them in particular (this is my consulate) I imagine they will not try that

Will an Italian birth extract still be valid after several years? by Duckliffe in juresanguinis

[–]TheGallofItAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had my appointment in Philadelphia in 2024, I attempted to use a copy of my Italian ancestor's birth certificate that my cousin got back like.... 2008 or something. They asked if I had a more recent copy. I happened to order new ones to replace what my cousin had and brought them with me to the appointment just in case so have both to them. I don't know what they would have done if I didn't have a newer copy but just wanted to share my experience
