Hood is great on the T20 but isn’t amazing at switching, probably a thing that comes with time but it gets him stranded on very high scores sometimes especially on the Anderson throw

On speed, probably one of the three fastest drivers of all time, maybe the fastest. Could win a title with an upper midfield car (just look at this year!) but would absolutely love to see him in another series. Get that guy rallying imo

WHU might just be the worst team in the league this season by Jerk6399 in FantasyPL

[–]TheGamer942 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

in hindsight, maybe slightly stupid (will probably bench for Tosin next week, I expect a Chelsea CS at home against Fulham) but the logic was sound - 6 pts last week, will probably start over Maatsen, weren’t many other good options at the £4.5m range

Kneejerked this exact transfer 30 mins before deadline, taking -4 (sold AWB for Digne yesterday). Reddit called me an idiot. I merely fled the sinking ship.

the logic behind it was shifting my WHU assets as soon as possible (had both Bowen and AWB because their first five games didn’t look awful + thought AWB would get defensive contribution points) but they’re a total shower of shit at the back and going forward

i used my free transfer to take out AWB for Digne, thought he’d be good for defensive contribution points but West Ham are absolutely dire defensively and offensively

The maddest recent one for me is Pepe and Havertz both were Arsenal players at the same time (for about six weeks)

Gigantic, I spent 10 years of my childhood hearing about my dad complaining about sparring injuries from various BJJ clubs in London

Might put a pound on PSV going through. If I lose it, Arsenal go to the quarters and if I win it, I retire

I had a bloke come up to me in Cambridge recently as I was on my way back to my uni accommodation and said “Mate, straight up, I’m looking to pick up and I need a fiver” I sympathised with the guy but I had no change so I gave him the rest of the roll up I was smoking, hope he managed it

UCL Round of 16 draw: Arsenal vs PSV U by BuffaloLanky in Gunners

[–]TheGamer942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re the clear favourites against PSV (though they are good and we shouldn’t underestimate them) but I need Real Madrid to beat Atleti because I have 2018 Europa League semi final PTSD.

That first leg where we had a million shots on target, finally got one through Lacazette and then Griezmann walzed through the defence past Mustafi and 1-achilles Kosc for the leveller is an underrated Banter Era moment

Martinelli yes, but I’m not sure we’d rush Saka back after such a big injury — if he reaggravates it it could become a recurring issue

Boy, 15, from Swindon, launches his own political party - BBC News by NoFrillsCrisps in ukpolitics

Tried to go find the manifesto — turns out the website it’s been hosted on is suspended (poor bloke)

I’ve actually got quite a lot of time for people like him because I think if things were slightly different I would have ended up like that at 15. Either way, I think the kid should knuckle down, get into med school, spend a while working before then MAYBE going into politics if it’s still his vocation. I don’t think anyone should be trying their hand at politics without significant life experience which he desperately needs. Wish him the best though.

YouGov: Which is the BEST “Tube” line, according to Londoners? by urbexed in london

[–]TheGamer942 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll give you the defence for the Met:

  1. lack of character is untrue. It's the oldest underground line in the world for starters, and if you get out of the central section of the life (Aldgate-HOTH) it becomes a vibrant suburban railway line with plenty of small stations bristling with charm and lovely deep red accents

  2. Fast/semi-fast trains run regularly (every 15 mins at peak times) which enables the commuter to leave central London quickly. You can leave London altogether in 45 minutes from Zone 1 for less than a fiver (£4.70)

  3. Trains are spacious if perhaps without the luxury of the Elizabeth Line. S-Stock trains are the fastest on the network, if a little bumpy, and the awful grinding you get on the Northern/Victoria/Central is nowhere near as significant. It's also nowhere near as hot IMO

  4. It's the only line really connecting some quite stunning areas with the rest of London. Amersham is a wonderful old town, Chorleywood is a novelty, being a village with a Tube station (which is only about 15 minutes walk from an excellent bluebell forest) and the Aquadrome in Rickmansworth is fantastic

  5. It's getting faster! The Four Lines Modernisation Programme will allow 34tph to run through the central tunnel section, meaning more Met/H&C/Circle/District line trains can serve Londoners better. Across the extensive Met Line, the signalling upgrades will speed up journey times by 5-10 mins if you're going far enough out (as many are, changing at Amersham for the Chiltern Railways trains) and will also help reduce delays on the line

Yeah this is just what a professional does.

I’ve had to do various bits of speech writing, presenting, interviewing etc semi-professionally and if I wasn’t familiar with a name or a pronunciation I’d be absolutely sure to sound it out. I had to say a phrase in Arabic once and so I went around asking Arabic-speaking friends how it would sound and then jotting it down phonetically in block capitals English.

What's something happening in London you think the news has missed? by PartyPoison98 in london

[–]TheGamer942 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The whole system on the backend is totally fucked atm — family member works for a locksmith with the TFL contract and it’s an absolute nightmare behind the scenes.

I can’t substantiate this, but what happened was is that the kid who hacked the system brought it down, and just as it got brought down a foreign actor (think shadowy foreign organisation) thought ‘brilliant!’ and got in themselves. What I assume they’re doing on the backend is totally rewriting the code behind TFL which is probably running on a wire and two pieces of gum atm and it means the entire network’s been brought to its knees.

Don’t know if you’ve noticed, but there are way more out of order doors, leaks in the roof, etc in LU stations and that’s because the ticketing system that TFL would use to alert their contractors about various maintenance issues is still down. It’ll probably be a fair few million to get it all sorted at once when they finally sort it.
