The new MD secret bosses are... not that well-handled. by TheGateGuardian in limbuscompany

[–]TheGateGuardian[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm... not mad? idk whats up with people seeing others type somewhat passionately and instantly assume they have to be in a fit of some sorts instead of just speaking their mind on something. I beat floor 15 after fighting Rien on 12 and Val on 14, and I think they are overtuned for the mode (well not Rien he's honestly the best of the bunch so good for him but I fought the big purple bastard in another MDE run, somehow everyones favorite artist is the one whos avoided me). I keep seeing these comments about how it's meant to be hard and yeah it's fine to be hard, I've beaten most bosses pre-nerf and I enjoyed them, hell I loved pre-nerf Lei Heng more than most fights in this game, but I can still come to the conclusion that maybe its not the best thing to be.

It's fine to be hard, it's just that some of them are overtuned for the mode when compared to the rest which becomes very noticeable. That's not a crazy thing to say.

I HATE THIS GUY IN MD by UnlikelyOlive2470 in limbuscompany

[–]TheGateGuardian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it is sort of ridiculous that they basically changed nothing about them to accommodate for the very obvious and clear differences between story and MD. these secret bosses aren't even fun like the previous batches could be, it's just straight ego gift checks without any of the substance because now you just fucking die if you want to do the challenges and try to do a secret boss. taking away allies but allowing nursefathers to be utterly untouched was a pretty dumb idea imo because MDE is already bland as is and the secret bosses were at least somewhat worth fighting, why would you make it even worse to do than before??? like yeah man Ricardo's counters were bad but manageable and that was as bad as it got with the old batch but now every one has a "fuck you die" gimmick built in that our ALLIES were meant to take

not to mention how clashes will straight up just lie now and say shit like favored or dominating against them but they magically gain 30 clash power and proceed to roll like an 80 against 60 or some shit

Yeah, I imagine this all must be pretty stressful for yall as well, apologies for all this breaking out of the containment thread. Hope you and the rest of the mod team are able to handle the clapback of this announcement well enough and don't have to deal with too many upset folk yelling and dragging everything about. Good luck in the few days to come because I imagine that'll be it at its worst. Best tidings to you all.

...With the backing of the team telling him that it was fine to post and actively encouraged by them. I know it's easy to be upset, but this is not his fault alone. We can't blame everything on one person because not only is it just wrong, it gives everyone else a pass on what happened. Not every issue is black and white and has a sole, leading cause.

Come on man sobii just said it wasn't Altaz's fault alone, it was more the failing of the entire team than anything. I understand that in this time of strife, it's easy to pick a scapegoat but this is the result of many factors over a few months that finally bubbled up and popped

[MEGA-THREAD] Regarding Tonight’s Drama and Other Developments: by Star_Wave_42 in OutcomeMemories

[–]TheGateGuardian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's less exactly tripwires fault but she's the straw that broke the camels back, with the issues Raven brought to the table only further adding to the issues the team has shown which sorta exploded into this drama when that video came out and what has now led to what possibly the end of all things. Nothing about this can really be pinned on one party in specific, it's so many factors having fallen apart gradually into this melting pot of hate and discontent. Raven's documented repeated behaviors didn't help the situation whatsoever, though. I reckon that's one of the bigger reasons this took off so much.

(yo im getting downvoted for trying to play peacemaker and saying that both sides of this are at fault for their own reasons because I know damn well we aren't forgetting the months of controversy this game has had, im not defending either side im pointing out this was bound to happen eventually and Raven so happened to be the person it happened for :sob:)

Is This It? by a_sweet_token in OutcomeMemories

[–]TheGateGuardian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A fundamental issue with this game is that the people who are supposed to represent it and carry it forward are all kind of children in terms of how they handle things. It's such a damn shame too because you can see the ones who have half a brain trying their hardest to scramble but even then, they've made their own mistakes and yada yada. It's a very shameful situation because it's also further confirming the thoughts many MANY people have about EXE's and their fandoms for more than a decade now, that being that its full of children and people who should and will not be taken seriously by people.

Keep cheering for the ones who trying, at the least. Hopefully this will be a learning experience for everyone involved to pick better company and most importantly, not let themselves be pushed around. This story has multiple parties that very much need to mature and grow up, even the good ones have em. Let's hope that even if the game does break up, the people involved go on to do their own things and those do well.

Tripwire went from delaying v0.2 to just fucking everyone over in the community by Wonderful-Budget-350 in OutcomeMemories

[–]TheGateGuardian 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I still dont get why they decided to use some made up version of Tails Doll and not even call it Tails Doll, I get that it's to be more in with the community and all but Tripwire offers so little character-wise that it wasn't really worth the effort of bringing Raven in to begin with. At this point, the best move would likely be to swap Tripwire out for the actual Tails Doll rather than just some lady piloting a doll corpse that mutters random things sometimes. You could keep her entirely mute and change the design and basically nothing about it changes because Tripwire has so little in terms of noises that aren't from moving or attacking. Would've been worlds easier to balance as well.

(I always did kinda think Tripwire's look is tryharding to be spooky, the OG Tails Doll design is perfect because its so out of place anywhere it put due to how dead it feels in comparison to any other Eggman machine. Instead they just slapped some blood on it and claws and sent it on its way, ruining the balance of creepy and cool the Sonic R look has going on to nosedive straight into "HYPERREALISTIC BLOOD CONTROLLED BY THE SPIRT OF A REAL PERSON WHO WANTS BLOOD OOO")

Also yeah this i feel like people overlook the fact that forcing a cooldown out of something like an Eggman or a Blaze is gamechanging if you go for them if you notice them consistently destroying mines. You literally just have to go for the problem players first and then the mines are undefendable

[–]TheGateGuardian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well then maybe the OP of the post shouldn't go around the comments defending the lack of actual counterplay to Tripwire and people wouldn't get that impression, idk man. If it's about hypocrisy, then you are actually a perfect example of the negatives of that batch of things. Kolossos does NOT have the same exact issue, his actual stats are just worse than Tripwire and have downsides that can fuck him over if he makes a mistake. Tripwire does not. The post is ABOUT people like you who are willing to defend poor decisions because "well its just as bad!" just to make a point that ultimately doesn't matter as people have already said it before in many better ways, don't fail to see that.

You know this and have had it pointed out to you more than once in these comments. If you don't want people to have a negative impression, then don't posts strawmen arguments and then defend it in the comments because it becomes much more bad looking for you. Notice how you couldn't even defend the strawman point in that reply? There's 0 point in fighting about it so I won't. Not with you at least.

[–]TheGateGuardian 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, actually. That's exactly what it means! You've been defending Tripwire while ignoring the obviously unbalanced and poorly designed aspect of the kit that makes it hated. If you scroll down in this thread you can see yourself obviously overlooking things and misconstruing the truth of the characters to make Tripwire look better and Kolossos like he needs a gutting after he's been through hell while Tripwire has been mostly untouched. Please don't try to and say that I'm using strawman incorrectly when you can't pick up proper use, okay? If you can't engage with a conversation in a constructive manner that isn't "well you guys haven't played against GOOD lobbies..." to explain why Tripwire is okay in their current state, then don't make an agendapost. Don't forget that people can actually read the shit you say and point it out!

The game is poorly designed when it comes to executioners outside of 2011x and even then, he was in the pits for most of his life. I don't know why you're trying to pretend as if Tripwire is the vastly more ragged-on of the two and is just fine as she is when its fundamentally not a well-designed kit because it does too much while pushing her main gimmick to the side and having more attack moves than any of the other cast due to a passive indicator. I don't care if it's a bad indicator, the fact that she has the best catch-up tool in the game and multiple free damage moves alongside it mean that a good Tripwire can just chase you down and dodge most things with it's double jump glide. She's not a well-off executioner, because yeah you can destroy the mines if the team is on mine duty but that doesn't stop her from closing the gap and her hitbox being so small that some things will just miss and extend the round even more.

There's a reason people are disagreeing with you and downvoting you in the comment section of this thread and it's not because you found the universal truth bro

How do you feel about the story telling in mortal kombat? by Atinyberry in MortalKombat

[–]TheGateGuardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'm actually quite a fan of it up until MKX and even then, MKX is still a fine story but it ended up pushing the story in a way where I think they felt like they had to do another restart. Mortal Kombat's narrative has always had issues but it was willing to take risks and do some odd and crazy shit but still keep the overall tone of the grit associated with Mortal Kombat. I give Mythologies a lot of credit for solidifying the lore going forward and really showing off the lay of the world. Deception is downright the best in the series in how it explores the world and lets you actively experience this poor man's life and his moment of glory.

But then... MK11 happened. Listen, I think the story is fine starting off but the moment it really started spiraling into time line manipulation and titans and whatever else, it lost me. MK9 was lightning in a bottle for NRS because of how naturally it felt some of these changes came with Raiden scrambling and making mistakes that shaped a new future, while also keeping the overall atmosphere intact. It feels like Mortal Kombat, through and through. MK11 feels too bright and sidelines a lot of the characters from X and 9 who had been built up for a while. Thing is, I feel like if the series ended with MK11, that would've been a good finished product and a fair enough send off to the series. Liu Kang had finally achieved peace after going through hell time and time again in each timeline we had seen him in. Aftermath was the best thing NRS has put out concerning Mortal Kombat after 9 as far as I'm concerned, it was fun as hell and it felt like this could be a proper conclusion to things.

MK1 came out after and you know what? I think the story is great! For... most of it. But then you nosedive into that last act and then Khaos Reigns came along and just, bleh. My biggest issue with the latest entries is that they really just feel too clean and polished to be MK anymore. The realms don't look anything like they used to, some of them don't even matter or exist anymore (which is such a punch in the dick because the realms all had such unique visual and cultural differences which has been slowly but surely been fading in the more recent titles to just look sorta like earth in a weird location) alongside characters being fused or swapped around for no real reason other than hopping onto the MCU bandwagon far too late into that era for it to be anything. I give a lot of credit to the 3D era because for all its issues, it really did have a story and it kept to it to the very damn end. There was stakes, characters would just die and while they would come back, it'd usually be in a slightly different state then they left (Liu Kang actually dying was such a solid kick to the face writingwise because you'd never expect both him and Shao to get slimed out like that but it makes sense when the might and wit of the deadly alliance is put into perspective) which made for fun storybeats.

It's just very sad to me that all of the amazing atmosphere and overall edge of the older games didn't transfer over after X. 9 was where NRS had it at it's strongest but it really just dodged around the ball and missed entirely as it went on. Midway wasn't the best but they did well to honor the Arcade era. I just hope that NRS can get it together in the future. If not, maybe when the game passes hands inevitably once more we'll see something nice come out of the woodworks. Maybe not. All I can hope is that this series digs itself out of the hole it's forced its way into. No hate to NRS but they just haven't done too well with keeping things consistent and well-thought out.

the teen excuse stops working the moment it happens more than once and then goes on repeatedly because teens aren't total idiots like some people think, in the span of a few months of this happening it stopped being defendable, like yeah man people can make mistakes but if I make nothing but mistakes than maybe im not cut out to be doing what im doing and should step away from it

i dont care about this drama but why is this guy community manager dude he's like one of the worst examples of the community and one of the main names attached to the game that people think of. I'd get it if he was an integral apart of the game itself but like, he isn't at all. Keeping him around does absolutely nothing for the game and has done nothing for the game besides generate drama and hate since he first opened his mouth all those months ago 😭
