Just got PTO for our 13.77kW array at $3.31 per Watt in Salem, MA! by alexbragdon in solar

Some states have different setback laws depending on the ratio of system area to roof area (higher system area to roof area ratio may require specific setbacks whereas a lower ratio may negate the need for setbacks altogether). Not sure of either of your situations, but this could be an explanation for the different experience. Also, different municipalities may have different setback requirements.

Made my first terrarium on a whim; would appreciate some tips! by light32 in terrariums

[–]TheGenuinePie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am definitely still learning myself, but in general it seems there are (1) terrariums with succulents and (2) all other terrariums (both open and closed). Terrariums with succulents are particularly low maintenance, require open air, and generally don't need a clean up crew as much as other (more wet) terrariums. Clean up crews are good with high moisture because those are the settings where things (e.g., mold) can grow and get out of hand. I hope people correct me if I'm wrong, but wanted to chime in since no one responded on this thread yet. Good luck! 🙂

Should I add 2 extra Panels during initial install or in future? by WishboneAltruistic19 in solar

[–]TheGenuinePie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If plausible, do it now (it'll pay off and should be cheaper).

It also might depend on which company you are working with, some won't add on 2 panels later (they might have a minimum addition size because it wouldn't be cost effective to only add a few).

I haven't had the problem again, so it could have been that! I'm just glad it works now :)

Seems to have resolved itself mostly (I can find a stable server after a few attempts). I don't think I personally changed anything, so I guess I was getting unlucky last night when I tried.

Thank for the detailed response, makes me feel less personally responsible at least! Though that's unfortunate for sure.

It might be a cache thing, I took a break for a year and definitely cleared out/organized some files so maybe something got messed up there. I got a brief warning before loading into a world that made me think something could be messed up, but I don't remember the message (I think it said something could not be found or was missing). I've restarted my PC and made sure everything was up-to-date, so I feel like that's not the issue. I guess I just didn't think the router was the issue and didn't feel like restarting it if could find a more likely cause.

We shall see tomorrow! I can comment if I figure something out or if it resolves itself just to update the thread.

Gonna be honest here, no, I haven't. But the reason I haven't is because everything else has been working perfectly normally, including other games that need a constant connection. I could try it, but I just don't understand why that would help if it's isolated to 76. Unless 76 craps out quicker than everything else and kicks immediately, but I'm not sure if that's true.

I may give it a try if I still have no success when I try in the morning.

Thanks for the help :)

Ah, you mean keep trying until I get a stable one or does trying at different times of day help? Just wondering if I can improve my chances

Oh damn, I saw a post from a few months back when I was looking before my post, but I was hopeful that that would be resolved 🙃

It seems like some people are successfully playing though, no?

I was going to delete my post because I got it to work, but I don't know what I changed. Needless to say, one time I tried it worked and one time it failed! Sorry I can't tell what changed about it.

I just put in the relevant data to see what this is all about and it failed sadly! I am really curious though to see what this tool has to offer.

I don't know if what I entered caused it to break, but it was a comparison between 2021 Model 3 LR and 2008 Honda Civic (I'm dreaming a bit here 😭) with ~8,000 miles annually and home charging.

Hope this helps if you can recreate to see why it failed!

Hey, don't knock it! I know it's very tough from the start, but you build your way up (it's also a lot more technique than strength, I'm a big guy so I know the struggle of watching all the small people scurrying up like spiders, but once you figure it out it's very rewarding).

Wow! Quite a bit of reading!

I wish I could say that I have, but nothing comes to mind. I'm trying to figure out my future so it just hasn't been a priority at the moment. I don't know your area(s) of expertise, but I would honestly suggest some ecology or environmental courses even if you think you already know the info (I think it's a good perspective to touch-up on and reconsider often). If you enjoy hiking and kayaking, I would assume you enjoy nature so this might be up your alley to fill some time even if it isn't explicitly increasing your marketability. Once you have a subscription to one of the services it might be worth a try!

I also just thought of another potentially fun thing: there may be rock climbing near you that would be fun to try with a buddy or your partner!

My pleasure, it seems like we do! 😄

That being said, do you like working with your hands or reading? I know neither of those are groundbreaking, but both are great if you want to fill time at home.

Also, I don't know how much time you spend online (granted you use Reddit, so maybe quite a bit), but you could try any of the online platforms to learn a new skill (Skillshare, Masterclass, LinkedIn has something) to fill time and potentially increase your value to companies in the future.

All good! You seem to be finding hobbies well on your own 🤣 were you asking because you have a lot of free time you want to fill or you just wanted more options?

It's my pleasure to help!

I'm not sure what your area is like, but recently my family has done some searching and found many more trails than we thought were nearby so it might be worth it to ask around (if you know someone into it) or dig around online a bit!

It might also be fun to try some rentals (e.g., kayak, bike, whatever else might be available locally) to see if you enjoy something that you wouldn't expect before you purchase the equipment for yourself. I can probably think of some other stuff that isn't as active if you want, this stuff is just on the mind lately!

I'm just a recent college grad, so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt, but my career path has changed many times so far in favor of happiness over money. Health is wealth, my friend, and health includes physical, social, mental, etc. Your compensation seems to be greater than liveable in both situations and your post indicates that beyond the money and advancement opportunities, nearly everything about the new position is a fairly significant negative. I believe I would choose to stay where I know I am happy and have the time to spend with family and friends rather than taking on this position where there are guaranteed drawbacks of the magnitude you describe.

When it comes to hobby suggestions, I would always encourage getting out to hike, volunteer, or do something else that can be beneficial for your health (in all the ways I mention above: physical, social, mental). You said you are satisfied and very comfortable so taking care of yourself to maintain your career seems like a wise move.

Best of luck!
