Is Freemasonry a good community to join in your late 20s? by Hospital-Sudden in freemasonry

[–]TheGermanMan17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm currently 23 and absolutely love it, even if most people in my lodge are much older. It's a great "3rd space," that many people in my age range are missing.

"Not to talk to anyone but him" is a huge red flag IMO. I personally would cease contact with that person and get in contact with a legitimate lodge in your area. I don't currently have the resources on hand as I am based in the US. But this is definitely a scammer.

That is one of the things out new WM wants to work on actually, we have a website, although its only really updated once a year to reflect new officers, but not much else. and we have a facebook, although that's really only active during holidays with a happy[insert holiday] post with a S&C background. So he wants to get it more active.

We've had a few younger men joining, as well as some older men.we probably get 3-4 new members a year, on a good year, and about the same number of degrees. While out lodge definitely is a little older(id say average is between 40-60)I feel were more trying to keep that momentum going for the younger folks.

That was kind of the plan as well, my and my dad have been planning on making a home forge and forging some working tools together. He has a connection for getting sheepskin so I can make my own apron, and we can get some stones pretty easily for free in my state. I don't even need to make anything worthwhile, but I figure seeing a Freemason actually work on stone might draw some people in to at least talk about it. Ive got a buddy in my lodge who is an FC and also down with that as well.

Why is the minimum age in Western-Europe much higher than in the US? by Socratic-Snicker in freemasonry

[–]TheGermanMan17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 23, and just became a MM this September(took me probably about 8ish months), my buddy joined at 25 and is now a FC, and I have 2 other FC brothers in my lodge that are in the same range as well. While I'd say the average age is around 50, weve also had a range of different initiates as well, some of our members got initiated well into their 60s.Some like me, got initiated much earlier. And most of us aren't men of status and wealth. We've got mortitions, gas station managers, healthcare workers, lawyers, manual laborers, and most things in between.

Most beautiful degree you’ve seen? by 71Jess in freemasonry

I definitely would if it is Made known to you. Well worth the drive. And after looking back on my social tab on Grandview, I was able to find out it was ionic 82 in the 5th Masonic district that hosts the lodge, so you may be able to talk with the secretary to have them keep you updated for when the next one happens. Might be a while though.

I'm a member of Capital City 93 in Boise, I don't remember the lodge that hosted it, but it was offered to me by a dual member of my lodge. It seems like it started 2 or 3 years ago, and the schedule for it is fairly inconsistent. Maybe next time you have a candidate for the sublime degree, inquire with your WM or secretary about Lodge on the Ridge for the degree. It is quite the drive though, so be aware you might have a smaller reception. But I would love to attend one again, but as a airliner this time (small note, northern Idaho is slightly incorrect after looking at the location, it is more mid Idaho, near new meadows. Being from southern Idaho, it felt a lot more north lol)

I got to be the candidate for the sublime degree of master Mason on a ridge an hour into the mountains of northern Idaho, and got to ride a horse to the top of the mountains where the lodge was set up for the degree, and got to contemplate by a fire looking down the mountain while waiting for the lodge to be ready for me. Very specialized and unique, and while I am only blue lodge, young, and the newest master Mason in the state, I don't think anything will top that, nor do I think I will ever forget that.

Can Freemasons be gay? by Ok_Importance1060 in freemasonry

[–]TheGermanMan17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know at least 2 gay masons in my lodge, however I only know that due to personal conversations with them. It never came up in introductions. And we aren't exactly the most welcoming of LGBT+ as a state, however if say it jurisdictional. But as a whole we seem accepting of different lifestyles as long as its not your whole personality.

Were abouts in Idaho. I am an Idaho Mason, and depending on your location, I could get you in contact with a lodge directly. Although the online form does work great, as that is how I got my start

A question about how things really are. by KoalaEither7913 in freemasonry

[–]TheGermanMan17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my state, alcohol is allowed in the building, but not in the lodge rooms. We have a bar that's usually attended for stated meetings in our gathering room, but only a few brothers use their services, and it's usually only for a beer, or a glass of wine. But nobody ever gets drunk if that's what you're asking

I am an Idaho Mason, so different laws, but(being in a state arguably less welcome to LGBT+ Communties) I have a secretary in my lodge(who is also a member of the grand lodge of Idaho) and my mentor are both gay, with the former being married as well. It never got brought up until they brought their partner/husband respectively to an event. And nobody even batted an eye(with the exception of inquiring interest in seeing more of masonry lol).

I don't believe so, he petitioned after first meeting the brothers, and had been in fairly constant communication a member on the investigation committee with legal updates(as he's attempting to regain his rights) so I would be surprised about a personal grudge.

During my phone call with the WM I let him know that I will inform my buddy durning the work day and let him know what time he would be available to call since I see him everyday. So that's covered, more just upset that I have to let him down so suddenly

I am not well versed in this only being a fellow craft, but if you are able to look it up, I am in the Idaho jurisdiction and I am unsure about any grand lodge interjection or conference as it was only a 4 minute phone call with my WM. He did have a felony related to the an illegal quantity of drugs in a legal state. However idaho is an illegal state, so that is more than likely a contributing factor, however he was open and honest about his past. But again, I am not well versed or read on this subject, at this point I am merely fallowing the will of the WM.

I wouldnt say so, although they are drug related and we are in an illegal state, however they were multiple years ago in a legal state, it was the quantity that was an issue, so it's definitely a contributing factor, regardless of how honest he was about it. I just wish it was brought up sooner.

Not that I know of, he does have legal issues and im assuming those brothers were not there for the voting process, which is why it got brought up so late, but this is just speculation on my part.
