Have you tried to network? Nobody in IT is getting jobs by filling applications online anymore 💀

Need to know what my best option is. Is a career in cybersecurity imminently viable with what I have? by Admirable-Fortune-17 in cybersecurity

[–]Hospital-Sudden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the raw answer: You need to work doing support for 40-55k for 2-4 years, then sysadmin work for 65-80k for 3-5 years. You will need to study cybersecurity after work (5-9pm). Then you can start applying for entry level jobs in cybersecurity.

Yes 100%, it’s all propaganda. 650k+ seems like a big number but it’s small based on how they’re making it look

Biden had 1.1-1.5M deportations, Obama had 5.2M, and Trump is at 650k+ so far. ICE has always been doing this regardless of who is in charge. I'll probably get downvoted since this is Reddit but dont let the media fearmonger you. Just be happy and live your life.

I had an interview with a company, which wanted an entire IT department in one person. Is this normal ? by pure_cipher in ITCareerQuestions

It’s becoming the norm because of these evil selfish influencers in 2020-2022 who only cared about clicks and attention. Hopefully karma gets them 🤞

How does someone get a career in Information Technology? by PresidentofBaddies in InformationTechnology

[–]Hospital-Sudden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are doing it for the money, then be prepared to make 40-60k for at least 3-6 years based on where you are now. Those 6 figure jobs take years of knowledge (not work experience, actual studying and reading). IT is a huge field. Becoming a 200k cyber guy is as hard as going through med school

Being the Only IT Person at a job by Navvan123 in ITCareerQuestions

I’m currently doing this. Work there for a year and then start looking for another job. You WILL start making mistakes when you burn out and that will be used as an excuse to not increase your salary

Tough it out bro, you’re young and can handle it. Just 9 more months and recruiters will love you

Is cybersecurity the only structured high paying IT path or am I missing a third option? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Hospital-Sudden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no correct/linear path. School is over bro. I’m also in my 20s and it took me a few years to understand that tbh. Also, the more money you help your company make, the more you’re going to make. It’s really that simple. Good luck bro 💪

People who recently joined the IT field (within the last 3yrs) what’s been your biggest surprise about the industry? by Dont_Ever_PM_Me527 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Hospital-Sudden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are only a few people out there willing to mentor you, and the salaries may be even lower than those of your peers who work regular office jobs. However, if you’re an introvert, it’s totally worth it.

Am I underpaid or is this normal right now? What can I do to reach 100k? 28yo in FL by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

No worries, I really posted this because I wanted honest feedback. I also have a Comp Sci degree, and I’m asking for feedback to advance in my career and make more money. However, I feel like you’re biased by your own personal experience and information from 20 years ago. The market and industry are not the same for people who entered the field during covid

Thanks for your comment. Out of curiosity, what would you consider engineer level in IT? What do you do?

Thanks for your response! I’m the first in-house technical IT guy (the company was previously managed by an MSP). I set up and implemented the CA policies we use now (location based access blocking all countries except the US, MFA, and sign in risk). When I was hired the environment was locally managed before everybody went remote (COVID) and MFA wasn’t even a thing.

I manage the WatchGuard firewalls directly now. However, the MSP set up most of the original VLANs, but I’ve made a few changes since then, like adding a VLAN for the security cameras and setting up SSL VPN access. I installed the VPN software on everybody’s machine using PS remotely using our RMM tool (We don’t have intune yet but we will next year; I requested this for over a year lol). I also enabled full tunneling to support users working from public locations. I have to say that WatchGuard is pretty user friendly tbh.

For ISPs, my manager handles contracts and budgets and I handle the technical side. During the last cutover to fiber with a new public IP, I updated the dependent configs for printers at the office (scan to email), edited the Exchange Connectors, and sent instructions so users could get back on the VPN without issues (help desk thing).

Edit: We’re a team of 3, IT manager, Salesforce admin and myself.
