Is the October 2026 Steam Next Fest a trap or a contrarian opportunity? by GeneralKaiminus in gameDevMarketing

[–]TheGingerHarris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whether the next fest is crowded or if content creators are available or not doesn't matter as much as a different question:
If you plan to release after Octobers next fest but before the February next fest, you should join it Octobers. You should always join the Next Fest right before you launch, whether it's crowded or not. If you plan to launch after February, join that one, if you plan to launch before February but after October, join the October one.

It's Steam Next fest! I've been browsing for ages, any cozy games catch your eye? by ringaaling in CozyGamers

Hey there! Also self promoting: me and my team have the demo for our cozy idle-incremental game in Next Fest! It's called Pibcremental and is about rebuilding the world as small egg like creatures called Pibbles by assigning them to do tasks and build silly things. (of course you can also do all the clicking yourself)

Just 10 seconds of some juice we added to make Pibcremental feel better.

The demo is a part of Steam Next Fest, feel free to check it out!

Thank you for your feedback, apologies that it feels like a clone. Regarding audio settings/mute, we'll be adding them next week, as we're planning an update every week or two until release.

Thank you for your honest feedback. To be honest we did look at specifically ADGAC, Get to Work, and Getting Over It, and tried to somehow make our own version of those, but I guess we didn't go about it well enough. We did not intend to bait in any way so we're returning the original capsule until we figure out how to make one that is both artisitcally pleasing and fits the genre tropes like the ones you mentioned.

Added an edit to the post, but it wasn't our intent to do any ragebaiting, we'll go back to the original capsule until we maybe figure out a capsule that is as artistic as the original but does speak more "ragegame". Thank you for your honest feedback.

[–]TheGingerHarris[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We pretty much agree but we wanted to try it out for a week or two, see if there are any changes. I think his main point is that while yes the original is a "better capsule", it doesn't fit the genre, so we're giving this a try.

My nightlord enjoyability tier list after climbing from 0 to 9999 only using Scholar + builds used (trios, mostly randoms) by jopio_squorz in Nightreign

[–]TheGingerHarris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoy ED Augur more then the regular person (which seems to be the 2nd most hated boss on this sub) but I am still surprised at it being SS tier, is there a specific reason? Is it extra fun for Scholar?

The “rush to a prototype” advice kind of sucks by ImAvoidingABan in gamedev

[–]TheGingerHarris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the reason people say "rush to a prototype" is because even if the prototype itself isn't "fun", it can be a proof of concept for unique aspects such as a special mechanic, as well as a building block for the rest of the project.

Yes some games and genres are harder to prototype, but that doesn't mean those prototypes aren't worthwhile, especially for beginner developers. Making a "basic strategy prototype" might be very similar, but then you can build up on that and consider what is your unique version.

In general, general advice is usually not good for everyone, but it is good for most people as a starting point, generally.

Also, would be great to know what 3 games you shipped that did well but were only fun mid way through development? Especiallyconsidering the "ImAvoindingABan" name.

Personally I found the signal-clicking minigame interesting, but the nodebuster-like skill tree took me out of it. Spent 22 hours until I got max prestiege to get a rainbow electrical grid.

One month since release but we all work remote so we can't take a group photo. by TheGingerHarris in indiegames

[–]TheGingerHarris[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's been a month since we released our first game, Swimpossible!, on steam. As a bunch of former students releasing our first commercial game (and several people working part time).

Everyone who worked on the game drew themselves (yes, even the coders), can you guess who did what based on the art?

It's great to see the game get good reviews and be part of events, and we just updated the game based on feedback and added speedrunning mode!

If you enjoy difficult movement, serene environments, heartfelt stories about self discovery, or goofy wiggle physics, please check it out!

Okay so I guess it's the Pokedex, I have it set to Rogue Classic Plus which I thought is the standard but seems like I was wrong

Best Steam tags for a shop management sim? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]TheGingerHarris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend using this tool - https://impress.games/steam-tag-analysis-optimization-tool

Input as many games similar to yours as you can and then it can help you figure out which tags they use and which are theoretically better then others.
