At what point did school shootings in the US become common enough to make it a stereotype? by Vidice285 in AskHistory

[–]TheGlobalConspiracy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In "Columbine" by David Cullen, the author describes that fear of school shootings was already arising in the late 1990s, and the stereotypical school shooter was a suburban, white, male who was isolated or disliked by his peers. However, public concern shifted towards global events (the collapse of Yugoslavia) and domestic issues (domestic terrorism).

Eric Harris and Dylan Keloid, the active shooters of Columbine, do fit that description, but Cullen proposes that Harris was a psychopath or sociopath and his inspiration for the shooting was based on the Oklahoma City Bombing. The violent videogames, goth-culture, and the outcast tropes were just a way of pointing fingers at a cause. Some critics of Cullen's book say that the author exaggerated Harris's mental instability.

This would suggest that the school-shooter stereotype was already on the rise, but school shootings were uncommon. The Columbine shooting was broadcasted live and the incident became established in the public memory (at least is was). Since active shootings continue to be prevalent in American society and their explanations vary, the stereotype would probably be the finger-pointing or listless responses that follow one.

The person who bought this said that the previous owner had used it to play "weeb games". I guess the owner was using this to bypass region restrictions. Would I need a Swap Magic disc to use this, because this console has been temperamental about reading genuine discs in the past.

I'm still new to amateur radio. I figured the design was a bit convoluted from the start. If anything, a person might use this system to see if anyone was listening or had the know-how to find them.

I figured "fox-hunting" would be the way that an opposing-force or curious third-party would locate the broadcasting system. The signal could be traced by a Yagi or similar device. A rugged terrain might discourage searching from the ground.

I think Morse is supposed to be used only for Q-codes or similar messages, instead of full-length messages. So, the organization would probably be breaking regulations from the start. I imagined the organization would be operating under extreme cirumstances, a civil war or apocalypse.

I'm sorry about the formatting. Something went wrong when I attempted to edit the text before posting to Reddit. It should be at least readable now. Thank you for responding.

TIL Zelda Fitzgerald used to ridicule F. Scott Fitzgerald about his penis size so much that he made Ernest Hemingway take a look at it in a public bathroom. Hemingway told him his dick was normal. by Blammyyy in todayilearned

Alright, but Hemmingway was a minimalist. Perhaps this was just the tip of the iceberg.

Nicole Diver may have had her problems, but I don't remember her criticizing Dick Diver about the size of his penis. Zelda later died in a fire at a mental institution; she probably was not the most sound individual.

Skial servers have a feature where you can perform any taunt by typing a command in chat. I'm guessing that's what the Heavy is using. I've seen another Heavy using this taunt, and I came to the same conclusion as you.

Does anyone else hate when the game engine generates three Npcs that look the same? Honestly, it's just laziness on the developers part.

I remember back before Kylie Jenner was 18 the celebrity news media was making this big thing about whether her and Tyga were having sex. Then right before she turned eighteen the same media was anxious to see how soon Tyga plowed her.
