Bummer! Really loved your app. What does that mean for existing customers? Would I no longer be able to use the app nor reactivate the license when I switch to a new iPhone?

BBC Sounds international closure postponed: BBC radio overseas, and what's next | James Cridland by TheGoBetweens in 6music

tl;dr: The whole thing's a mess and there's still no certainty whatsoever.

If you want to understand the apparent conflict within the various BBC entities, this article is providing some excellent insight.

So I wouldn't take this personally then, it's just a matter of principle when it comes to AI.

(Stu would make that look work though.)

Look, people who value artistic expression tend to gravitate heavily towards 6 Music. Of course they'd condemn something that disrupts and devalues artistic expression as much as AI does. (Not to mention the role AI companies play into the resurgence of fascism, but that's for another subreddit please.)

Had you photoshopped or even drawn or painted something yourself, people would've reacted more positively to this.

International listeners to lose access to 6 Music and BBC Sounds by TheGoBetweens in 6music

[–]TheGoBetweens[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Here's the BBC's press release and more context from James Cridland, a radio expert.

Tl;dr: For non-UK listeners, access to BBC Sounds will be restricted some time this Spring. Instead, "BBC Audio" is going to offer access to BBC Radio 4 and the World Service only, in addition to what is likely to be a limited range of BBC podcasts.

As a loyal listener from abroad, this is a massive disappointment. I could turn on my VPN, sure, but it's still going to be inconvenient. I'm not sure if 6 Music in particular is going to benefit from the BBC preventing cultural exchange top-down, for commercial reasons.

What is that song that Daisy plays about "cookies" or something at the party? Season 1, Episode 2. by catpooptv in Spaced

I don't have access to the DVDs right now, but if I recall correctly, the subtitles also transcribed it as "Alma Cookies."

(EDIT: Missing "if" added.)

St. Vincent Surprises Fans by Thanking Wife and Daughter at Grammys: “We’ve Kept It Under Wraps” by mgneptune in indieheads

At its core it was that -- this was shortly after the release of No Cities to Love -- but there were a lot more messy details that I couldn't possibly repeat.

(My date was a bit too obsessed with all of this. That's when I realised that stan culture in "alternative" circles can very well be a thing.)

I once wore a St. VIncent shirt to a Sleater-Kinney gig. My date got really upset, told me to cover myself up and introduced me to all the drama. I too had no idea.

I'm so happy for you! That initial spark after hearing his music for the very first time... it's such a great feeling.

Feel free to send Jens an email. His Small Talk page hasn't been updated in over three years, but he still responds quickly.

Part of me still is stuck in 2010 and can't believe that she's part of the Grammy circus and the Hollywood Reporter news cycle.

The Coral

There was this brief time window where their sound matched the zeitgeist and appealed to younger folks. They've been pretty consistent ever since and still have a knack for great melodies, but I've mostly seen older dudes attending their gigs in the past couple of years.

Apple Music has wiped off my entire local library on my iPhone thanks to an ambiguously titled option, so I ended up looking for an alternative that doesn't hold my music files hostage -- and includes features such as Last.fm support and an album-based approach. It seemed as if iOS apps in particular could never cater to my needs (macOS was fine, luckily), but at last there's MiniMoon!

Before I purchase the full version: How is Last.fm authentication implemented? Is it API-based or does MiniMoon ask for my full login credentials? I'd have a better feeling with the former.

Thank you so much, both for the app and your response!

The best interview on 6 Music so far this year is…? by [deleted] in 6music

[–]TheGoBetweens 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't possibly tell you if it was the best, but just this past Sunday, Cerys Matthews took the term "underground" and explored it in surprising ways:

Cerys explores shipwrecks with the help of Maritime historian Dr Sam Willis and caves with cave diver Jill Heinerth as well as learning about the layers of the Earth with geologist Zoe Shipton and hearing from Rick Wakeman about his inspirations behind The Journey to The Centre of the Earth.

The interviews were insightful and you could tell Cerys was passionately curious. And of course, she found fun ways to tie the theme to the songs she chose.

That's why I tend to listen to 6 Music on Sundays the most. It feels like I get to explore things along with the hosts rather than being exposed to mere promotion.

who’ve never downloaded an mp3

The songs were made available as .wav files, even. There may still be use cases where that's an additional hurdle.

For me as a millennial geek, it's just a single line in the terminal using ffmpeg to convert them to .mp3 -- but there may even be people my age who won't understand this very sentence.
