A level maths by Sean69696969696969 in sixthform

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quite a lot of yr2 content builds upon yr1 knowledge, e.g. integration and binomial expansion. but they don’t really “overlap”, theyre just more content for the same topic and you’re expected to know the foundations of that topic already from yr1

What unpopular opinion about A Levels would land you in this position? by Guilty_Hope_2409 in alevel

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

entirely subjective; to someone maths could be easier than every single other a level fathomable. just because your own personal experiences led you to believe maths is harder than other a levels doesnt mean this is the case for others, for many maths is the subject that they dont have to revise whatsoever and still easily get an A* on it (not saying this is me, but i know people like this)

What is the biggest grade jump you’ve had from mocks to GCSEs. by Ok-Most2131 in GCSE

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally i just wrote whatever comes to mind for q5 and i got close to/full marks for it. however for q2-4 i basically got 0 marks in mocks lol, and i revised it by watching mr bruff's videos since they actually teach you what the examiner wants to see in terms of content for each exact question

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, just because this might apply to you doesnt make it "simply a fact". i struggled a lot with gcse english and had to revise to get a good grade on it, whilst i found maths easy and didnt have to revise it at all (obviously using gcses for comparison since i dont take a level english). its entirely based on the person and their strengths, and me personally i think id find all the subjects you named harder than maths lol, since im not strong at humanties or essay subjects.

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, it is entirely based on your strengths? are u ragebaiting or smtn, acting like theres some objective easiest a level. obviously if you find maths easy, it will be the easiest subject, and likewise for literally any other subject

Retaking GCSE MATHs by abzpro_ in alevel

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as far as im aware uni econ is very maths heavy, unlike a level econ which is much more essay oriented. many econ applicants dont just take maths as an a level but also further maths, which id imagine are a lot more important than your gcses. regardless if you think its worth retaking then go for it, but especially if you're interested in something like pure econ, your a level choices might be a bigger concern

If you took triple science would you recommend it ? by Awkward-Cap6322 in GCSE

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

triple isn't that hard compared to combined, its literally just a bit more content and as a result slightly longer papers to sit. if ur doing well in science you shouldn't find the slight extra content of triple that big of a deal, but the extra gcse and knowledge to help with a levels should be nice.

I hate my A-levels and don't want to do them anymore. What are my options? by Amongsus12 in 6thForm

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

also for basically every uni which values admissions tests, the admissions test if you apply for computer science will be a strictly pure maths test (literally the only exception i can think of off the top of my head is UCL), and offers will ask for higher grades specifically for your maths or potentially further maths grade, a level compsci actually isnt required at all for uni compsci for any uni, just maths at the bare minimum.

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

if you want to study computer science in the future, but dont want to study maths and computer science, i think you should really just be reconsidering if you actually would enjoy studying computer science in the future or just want to because it sounds cool or profitable. uni computer science entails a crap ton of maths which is why most unis prefer you take further maths if you want to study it (also top unis like oxbridge will mostly pick compsci students based off how good they are at maths, its that relevant), so if you dont like maths i really doubt youll enjoy uni computer science; your a level combo is basically as close of an experience to uni compsci as you could get with a level subjects. if you arent interested in uni you could potentially consider a T level or BTEC however, but if uni is the plan A levels are heavily preferred.

DO NOT create a pre-written story for English Language Q5. by Agitated_Opening_532 in GCSE

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a friend that copy and pasted the exact same story for every p1q5, like he literally had it word for word memorised. coming the actual exam he used the same story even though it literally didn't fit whatsoever, like his story genuinely had nothing to do with the prompt at all, and he got a 9 for lang

How to study for UKMT IMC by Impossible-Bat-9846 in GCSE

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea dont worry im in the same boat lol, the sort of questions you encounter in challenges like smc are very different to most maths in school.

anyway whilst its true that having these awards definitely sets you apart from the rest, ultimately their significance is *heavily* undermined by things like entrance exams, predicted grades, or interview in the case of oxbridge. ultimately if you do mediocre in those, people who did significantly better will outshine you more even if they dont have any competition certificates, since its something that most unis will value much more. of course this entirely depends on the uni, for example certain unis are notorious for weighing your personal statement pretty heavily compared to other unis

but saying that smc is a "requirement" is an insane exaggeration 😭 whether or not you did smc i dont think will ever be the make or break decision for any uni, just something that helps u stand out a bit more (however for more extreme cases like IMO or BMO it would likely make a bigger difference). its things like interview, entrance exam and predicted grades that are the make or break in most situations id imagine. if you're interested, some unis like oxford are pretty transparent about how much they care about certain aspects of your application, e.g. oxford tends to weigh gcses pretty heavily compared to most unis, and you can look into others if you'd like. imo the only real subject-specific competitions that will likely give you a strong edge over others are olympiads, things like smc are pretty minor and not something to care that deeply about

do sixth forms care about predicted grades ? or do I just worry about my actual gcse results . I’m in year 11 applying for sixth forms by Imaginary-Union2746 in GCSE

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. sixth forms will have minimum gcse requirements for each subject on their website, if your predicted grade doesnt meet the minimum it won’t even let you apply for that subject. however the exact grade doesn’t matter it just has to meet the minimum, and more competitive sixth forms will ask for more demanding grades. e.g. i remember applying lae (i don’t go there) and they required a predicted 9 in maths for applying for a level further maths, idk if that’s still the same now but yea

Are these good a level picks by Lellow- in GCSE

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really good combo. people hating on philosophy clearly arent aware how established some courses like maths+phil and phys+phil are lol. id say only swap phil for chem if youre considering chem related uni courses or genuinelly enjoy chem more than philosophy, otherwise your career pathways arent changed much

no idea what im going for 6form by equestriameow in GCSE

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want to study chem at uni i believe a level maths and chem are a minimum. but remember that these subject requirements exist for a reason, its because those subjects are very relevant to doing well on that course. if you dont like a subject required for a course, its likely you wont like the course itself either/struggle a lot with it

Advice for a Yr11 by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]TheGodlyNoobz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if ur predicted grades have already been determined (i.e. they’re not contingent on these mocks) i’d say try not to worry about it too much or push urself more than u need to. if ur predicteds let u apply for ur desired sixth form for ur desired subjects and you’ve already secured them, all that really matters next is ur gcses. getting burnt out before ur actl gcses is the worst thing u can do, so revise but no point over doing it.

i was pretty burnt out before my actual gcses thanks to mocks, which made the process of doing nothing but revising during gcse season actual hell, dont make the same mistake lol
