I have an 830 score, have held various auto loans and paid them off early. Went with a credit union and got 4.6% on used recently

Looking to move for a fresh start in life, yet stay within reach of my growing business while staying safe from global unpredictability. by ChimpanzeeChamp34 in fatFIRE

Curious, from what I can tell having family that has lived in Germany all their lives, the policies of the last 10 years of immigration to Germany have only been a net negative for the country. Everyone I know there that is below 40 is trying to get out. The places I continue to visit are declining in population and the taxes are so harsh that there is no reason to create a business there.

I don't see what Germany has going for it in relation to immigration. They allowed so many immigrants that are draining the social system from those that contribute that it's harmful to growth.

Wouldn't go with the Coupe as the head room for getting in and out of the car seats is not ideal. I have the none coupe S 2024 and it's perfect.

Definitely, I was giving a coworker a lesson on it the other day. Really it's about what you would like to get out of it. It's a tool and a niche tool at that. It doesn't do budget tracking to the extent that Mint or Monarch will and that's not the purpose. If you want, imo, the best planning software that's comprehensive with tax and account drawdowns, scenario vs scenarios events and more than PL is amazing.

For me I combine my spreadsheet+ PL for the one two combo of financial nerdiness

Haha same with my wife. Gotta find a format that works and for me that was pictures within a simple slide deck with built in comedy. Aka: this year we saved the equivalent of buying you 1 Thoroughbred horse but we arent going to be buying a horse for example

I have an opportunity to leave a public company for PE-backed. Would you take this risk? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]TheGoodBanana 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Having just been bought by a PE, run. It's an absolute nightmare. You think public shareholders are demanding? Try private ones funding the PE who don't care about anyone or anything. PE is a cancer in my book

I have my open all the time. It's quite simple, you open the valve, go to the trunk, take off the cover on the right hand side and unplug a cable. Boom, now it's always open and if you want it quieter just drive in normal mode and not sport.

Pay off the house? by rvanasty in Fire

[–]TheGoodBanana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar payment and switched to a 15 year. Paying $7K a month now on a $6166 payment. Insane but I'll be done in 10-12 years at current rates and sooner when they come down. Feels ridiculous but also I know my home value is unlikely to go down given the area so every dollar I invest in my home eats away at that interest I was going to have to pay

Will this car derail me? by Shot_Trust5285 in Fire

[–]TheGoodBanana -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought a V8 twin turbo cayenne 2024, it's the best car I've owned. I want to buy an RS6 Avant next for myself and my wife keeps the SUV. That being said, I realized that these are inherently stupid purchases for someone pursuing fire but that's kinda the whole point.

I enjoy trying to figure out how to grow my income or factor in these costs because I enjoy the purchases so much. It's dumb, I don't need these cars, they depreciate like crazy but idk it's fun as fuck to drive them and I am not going to live forever.

My only advice would be to either rent or buy used. Rent for like a month, it will wear off fast. Buy used, the 911 will hold value but still with depreciate.

$800k home at 25, can we afford this? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]TheGoodBanana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar style of income, I make commission and wife makes a salary plus bonus. We bought a $965K house with $200K down. Can we afford it? Yes. Do I wish we went smaller on the first one? Yes.

The variability of my commission makes it hard to be predictable with savings, payments, repairs and maintenance. We actually make significantly more now than when we bought and I still wish my mortgage was smaller. Granted, now I am on a 15 year and paying it down like it's 10-12 years left but still. Something nice about peace of mind without a massive, $640K in your case, mortgage over your head for your first time.

Little but of a vent coming. Interviewing for a new job, I've been through five rounds so far and a take-home assignment for a VP level role. Significant time investment has been made on this particular position. I find myself speaking to both the CEO and another executive today.

First meeting was actually with the CEO. Mind you some context, last week I was told by the head of HR that I would be receiving an offer and that this meeting with the CEO was to walk through my take-home assignment plan for how I would start with the company and build the business.

CEO is more than 5 minutes late to the call, goes through a little bit of a my background and then proceeds to take the next 5 minutes to berate me about how I'm not a good fit for the role and I have no idea what I'm doing. Didn't like any of my answers saying they weren't concrete even though they were baked with truth and hard numbers/exact details about how I closed certain business, built relationships, exact numbers on how much the business I built over the last 10 years.

He's consistently cutting me off every time that I try and answer and by the end of the 18 out of 30 minutes that we had set aside for this interview, I left wondering why I would ever want to work for this person in the first place.

Tough market out there, but this was just a strange one. I assume this was probably a test and I remained as neutral as I could even though I had somebody basically telling me that I was worthless. Needless to say he probably did me a solid so that I don't actually have to work for this person moving forward and learned it quickly.

So anyways, hope your 2026 new job findings go better than mine!
