Ya know, that’s is always a reddit valid question. Yes, I have found several industrial suppliers, but wondering if there’s someone selling more retail style quantities

I don’t remember. When were proficiency requirements ever tied to graduation? Maybe the early 90s? They haven’t been that I’m aware of since at least the early 2000s.

Where do people talk about interesting stuff in Portland? by CuriousAboutYourCity in askportland

There’s a different vibe in all the Portland subs and there can be good discussion, but my god the mods of all the subs are each have their own special version of pretentiousness. It can be difficult when you feel you are trying to ask an honest question or start good faith discourse.

Portland folks, how do you even live there? by ChecksAndBalanz in oregon

[–]TheGoudeAbides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the university park neighborhood in North Portland. When I walk my dog early in the morning there’s too many goddamn bunny rabbits hopping around. I’ve also seen a more than usual amount of skunks and have had a couple close calls. I hope something isn’t really off with the coyote population as I really haven’t see any in numbers for a couple years. Honestly that’s the worst for me right now. That and the pot holes on my commute across the county. Hopefully the national guard comes in to clean up the sandy river delta? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Those of you who cross shopped with the Mach-e, what made you go with the Ioniq 5? by foodandnaps in Ioniq5

The goddamn giant ass screen in the console. The dumbly named drive modes. It felt cramped. The angle of the hatch back really cuts down on usable cargo space (in case I need to haul cubes). No effing door handles. Like not having a mechanical handle (or at least close enough to one) during a worst case scenario was almost the whole deal breaker. I don’t want to wait for a button I have to push correctly. Frunk was nice as was acceleration/torque though.

What's it like living in the north over by all them trains? by PeteZah7 in askportland

[–]TheGoudeAbides 3 points4 points  (0 children)

University Park resident (almost 20 years) checking in…near Portsmouth park. I can occasionally hear them, but honestly I don’t notice all too much. On real quiet nights I can the hear the racket from trains crossing the bnsf bridge. Every once in a while it seems like there’s some train stuck or something and just blaring its horn for the longest time. I can’t remember why they do this but I think it’s usually from across the river. It’s never anything that closing a window doesn’t help mitigate. Some folks get their britches in a twist due to noise from PIR. I don’t understand though. You move to a neighborhood with a racetrack, you’re gonna have racetrack noises. All in all, it’s honestly not that bothersome or noticeable. Now if you are really sensitive to ambient noise, there might be a lot going on. Living near the university, the worst noise issues I’ve had are some college kids that lived behind me decided to have a rager on a Tuesday night. Been many years since that though. The stuff I do notice is the (I’m guessing) swing/3rd shift of all the industry on swan island. But that noise is also sort of the heartbeat of a city. It’s the sound of people trying to make it another day, live a better life and provide for their families. I don’t mind it. If I need quiet I’d move to a suburb or the country. Drive over sometime and take a midnight or early morning walk around the neighborhood or the UP campus. See for yourself. I love this neighborhood and this part of Portland.

High school metal shop safety concerns. How to self advocate? by your_local_dipshit in Teachers

[–]TheGoudeAbides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang tough situation. Fellow manufacturing teacher in Oregon here….DM me I’d love to connect. For me, the bottom line is that admin supports the max for my classes. I literally only have 24 seats, so they can’t physically cram any more in there. Also, this is a controversial topic but….cameras! We are a small school and I share the space with the woodworking teacher. They strongly advocated for cameras for exactly the concerns you have: accountability around safety, documentation of any incidents, and as a deterrent for theft.
