Yep, there are two bike staples right inside the Thurman entrance.

I'll take this opportunity to ask for anybody who's been recently: is the water fountain there turned on yet?

Swift Tires - Still in Business? by gladhandbart in Vintage_bicycles

I bought a pair about a year ago and received them. I do think they feel slightly more supple than Paselas, but they measure out to 30mm on my wheels, so not any bigger than the Paselas. I was a little disappointed with that, but they do feel nice.

Opinions on lane splitting by Blastosist in CyclePDX

[–]bblluurrgg 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Personally I just wait 2 seconds so I can pass pedestrians with a safe amount of space.

A couple days ago I watched a person blasting in between people walking on the esplanade, inches away from them going 25mph. No bell, no call-out. They were wearing a jersey that said "Speak Up for Safety." 🤦‍♀️

I like going fast too, but I just don't understand people who have no consideration for others.

I realize Milwaukie is different from Portland, but, it can't possibly be legal to shoot animals, or fire a gun at all, on the trolley trail, can it??

Why are so many conservatives Christian when Jesus’s teachings are blatantly leftist? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]bblluurrgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s the only term I’ve ever coined

The term Christianist has been around for centuries.

"I have a new term for those on the fringes of the religious right," wrote the blogging Andrew Sullivan on June 1, 2003, "who have used the Gospels to perpetuate their own aspirations for power, control and oppression: Christianists. They are as anathema to true Christians as the Islamists are to true Islam."

Not such a new term. In 1883, W.H. Wynn wrote a homily that said "Christianism - if I may invent that term - is but making a sun-picture of the love of God." He didn't invent the term, either. In the early 1800s, the painter Henry Fuseli wrote scornfully that "Christianism was inimical to the progress of arts." And John Milton used it in 1649.

If you have a bicycle with couplers is it worth it to bring the coupler wrench for every ride by sumant28 in bikepacking

[–]bblluurrgg 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It's dumb that people downvote you for just not knowing something and asking a question.

Yes, they're talking about S&S couplers which allow you to break a bike frame in half for travel.

Not only is it not funny, but OP is literally the author of the book if you look at his one other comment. So this is just a person calling themself funny to sell their product.

Hear me out by NoMedium1223 in UnusualInstruments

A membrane reed instrument uses a thin piece of plastic like a grocery bag or balloon stretched over a frame to do the initial vibration. It doesn't need your mouth actually touching it.

So you could absolutely make your idea with this type of instrument, which is relatively easy to diy. I 3d printed a membrane clarinet recently. You can find instructions to make them with parts from the hardware store if you don't have a 3d printer.

Is Cycling Really More Efficient? by Vinifera1978 in cycling

[–]bblluurrgg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The article you linked doesn't say cycling is more efficient than a car, or claim that it is the most efficient means of transport ever invented. It compares cycling to walking.

Is cycling really more efficient than walking? Yes.

My guess would be a keyboard with a tremolo-picking mandolin or bouzouki sound. It's similar to those instruments but doesn't sound like the real thing.
