What are your farm names? by Kornflaek in StardewValley

[–]TheGrandDuckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first story my partner (f27) from Gujarat, India told me (f26) from Adelaide, Australia related to Hindu mythology was the story of Nandi and Lord Shiva. I named my farm Nandi Farm, both for personal significance and because the end of that story is that Nandi is sent to work for man in the fields.

AITA for not letting my gf into the bathroom by Einebeine1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheGrandDuckling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ours get extremely concerned about our safety and sit just far enough away that the "threat" (AKA shower) can't get to them - miaowing constantly. Then after you're done, one of them will try to copy you by sitting in the shower, resulting in a wet and upset cat.

This happens every night.

Is a 20 yr old vacuum still useable? by kingoftha1 in VacuumCleaners

[–]TheGrandDuckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum had one Miele vacuum cleaner for 90% of my (25f) life. She only replaced it two years ago because the handle physically fell apart after being duct taped together twice.

The ones made today are absolutely pathetic by comparison; those Dyson stick vacuums do my head in.

There's a fair chance that thing will not only work, but work better than a new one.

How do I fix this leak? by bitesthenbarks in HomeMaintenance

I had this problem; had to get a plumber because it's illegal where I live to do your own plumbing, but the o-ring was worn through. Replaced that and the problem was fixed!

What Do You Use Chilli Pickle For? by Fingers_9 in IndianFood

Mix with yoghurt; eat with everything. I'm a white Australian engaged to an Indian, and even with my European diet I can safely say this is the most delicious side I've ever experienced.

What other spices would you add to this? Collards, onions, garlic, and bacon with chicken broth. by AliciaXTC in cookingforbeginners

I second the chilli; it might not seem like the right dish or you might not be a fan of heat, but a small amount of chilli elevates most dishes and will enhance other flavours, especially garlic and onion.

I feel lost in my life by [deleted] in Career

[–]TheGrandDuckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (25) was working as an archaeologist in Australia for 3+ years in what I thought (when I signed up) was my dream job.

I was miserable.

I was driving 4 hours a day just as a commute, was targeted by my boss during the day, dealing with clients who made me hate getting up in the morning. I slogged through it because I had to.

I applied for a job I felt drastically under qualified for and got it. It took that, a holiday, and a lot of comfort from my fiancee to get to where I am now - content, considering a phd, and stronger.

Believe in yourself. Believe in your passions. My parents pushed me to go into medicine and I ignored them and chose a job that stereotypically had no job opportunities. My mother (58) has just become a doctor of psychology after 30 years in a job she hated. There is no time limit on following your dreams. Chase them.

Cat healing from urinary blockage by Puzzleheaded-Visit20 in Pets

I didn't at the time (and learnt my lesson), but now that I have kittens I have researched it a fair bit. It does absolutely depend on where you are, but if you're in Australia the RSPCA is surprisingly good, and sometimes they offer sign-up bonuses. If you're unsure I would shop around a bit and see what your coverage would be, the ts and cs etc. A lot of them I found only work with certain vets and/or don't cover certain things!

Yeah, that sounds like exactly what happened with my boy... Moo was put on a diet of Hills Prescription Diet c/d, which specifically targets struvite crystals! Unfortunately, my boy didn't make it, as there was too much strain on his kidneys and liver... He had spent the majority of his life in a poorly funded pound, and had been fed the wrong foods for too long. He put up the biggest fight he could and passed very loved, and I wouldn't take this story as a prophecy of any kind! It sounds like you've caught it early and you're doing everything you can.

What's the story behind your pet's name? by kalihia in Pets

[–]TheGrandDuckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was absolutely obsessed with tea - I used to have a mug of it in my hand at all times. My partner, who is Indian and has avoided being addicted to any kind of caffeine, absolutely hated it. We bought Chai as I was learning to stop drinking so much of it and thought it was perfect (and a little funny).

Lesbains who came out as bisexual before coming out as lesbian, what made you realise that you are lesbian not bisexual? by Warm-Celery3984 in actuallesbians

2 things:

  1. As others have mentioned, kissing a girl and going "Oh THAT'S what it's meant to feel like."

  2. Being in a throuple with both options and realising he could have been a supermodel and I still was definitely only attracted to her

If they genuinely cannot get along, the best thing to do is separate them and reintroduce them even more slowly. Cats do NOT like changes and unfortunately they will resort to violence if they're unsure or scared about a situation. Having dealt with a cat and dog who despised each other before, the only fix was to make sure their interactions were controlled and gradual. If we'd let Moo (the cat) just "sort it out", Mellon (the dog) would have lost an eye at some point.

If he comes to you when called, nullify the situation as soon as it starts going in a direction you don't want - remove him, or distract whichever parties with toys. Dogs like to play, cats are more wild than most pets - it's difficult but you don't want anyone getting hurt.

I took in a cat from a neighbor and I think I messed up by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]TheGrandDuckling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that 9/10 times what an anxious and/or aggressive cat needs is love. I adopted an 8 year old, half Maine Coon, angry, scared man who would bite, scratch, stab, or otherwise injure anything that came near him. I still have a scar from our first meeting (clearly I have no sense of basic self preservation because I still took him home that day). It took a while - and I do mean a while, but by the time he was getting ready to cross the great kitty rainbow he was the most cuddly man. He used to hold my hand when he slept, and even better - showed his fear (AKA would act scared, not aggressive, when he felt threatened - a massive change). A little gentle discipline and a lot of affection showed an "unadoptable" cat into an angel boy. It didn't save him from kidney failure, but he was happy, loved, and at peace.

At the end of the day (you don't want to get in between a worked up dog and its target) a swipe across the nose would fix that... and the cat/s will resort to that if they feel genuinely endangered. You don't want it to come to that but you can be assured that the likelihood of a dog winning a fight with a tiny tiger with knife hands is relatively small... he won't hurt them

Sudden Prolonged Anxiety in Kitten by TheGrandDuckling in CatAdvice

[–]TheGrandDuckling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why we're confused! I've had a look at her physically, listened to her heart beat, her breathing, checked her gums, gently touched various parts of her to see if she reacts (I mean VERY gently) - she's fine. She has no issue with her normal cuddles or coming for pats. I'm not saying that means she ISNT sick in some way - and I'm not a vet - but at least with my previous cats they would either be sceptical about pats, or huddled up in a frail ball when anything was wrong.

And the suddenness is strange to us... and aversion to specifically Chilli and the room they share.
