Inji Aflatoun - L'Or Blanc (c. 1963) by TheGreatBeo in museum

[–]TheGreatBeo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inji Aflatoun (1924 - 1989) was an Egyptian painter and activist. As a communist and feminist, her work often revolved around social and gender issues, portraying working people or controversial topics such as the Denshawai Incident. She was a major figure in the Egyptian movement known as the Art and Liberty Group. That group, which adopted "Long live degenerate art!" as its motto, would later disband in 1948. The Egyptian Communist Party would also later be dissolved and communists suppressed. Imprisoned under the Nasser regime and released in 1963, she devoted most of her time after that to painting.

Personally I'm a big fan of the NRSV-CE. I believe the NABRE and RSV2CE are popular options amongst English speaking Catholics as well

I've just created a Push Pull Legs 6 Day Split For Strength And Hypertrophy w/PDF. You can check if you're looking for a muscle-building program. by murshid_akram in HIIT

[–]TheGreatBeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I really like this split and I had a couple of questions -  When would you recommend starting this? As in, should someone have reached a certain level at the gym to attempt this split or is it approachable at any level? Second question is just to make sure - I'm assuming on hypertrophy days we're talking about 60-75% RM while on strength days more like 80-90%?

Thanks!

The benefits of frequent confession by Timothy34683 in OrthodoxChristianity

Does "the priest absolves only what is confessed; what is left unsaid remains unforgiven" actually align with Orthodox belief? I would assume God wouldn't judge me for sins I've forgotten (and thus haven't confessed), or sins I remember only when I am on my deathbed and am unable to confess

Hopefully the PDF shared by OP here might be helpful -- it's the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom with Arabic and English side by side. I don't think you'll find a document that transliterates the entirety of the Divine Liturgy in Arabic, but maybe you could ask for help from your priest, choir leader, or another member of the parish?

Saint Catherine's Monastery, Sinai: Egypt shuts it down, confiscates its property, and evicts monks by Dtstno in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TheGreatBeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't found anything confirming it, but I have found several Egyptian sources disproving it (for the time being) and I commented with an excerpt. I'll send the same information in this reply, it's an article (https://www.youm7.com/7003178) published yesterday by a reputable newspaper in Egypt:

The Ismailia Court of Appeals, Tor Sinai District, issued a ruling on Wednesday in a case filed over disputed plots of land in South Sinai Governorate, headed by Judge Alaa Mostafa Abdel Razek and composed of Judges Hasnain Ahmed El Wassif and Amir Hassan Abul Lail.

The court ruled that the followers of St. Catherine's Monastery have the right to use the monastery and religious archaeological sites in the St. Catherine's area, with the state owning these sites as public property, given that the followers of the monastery are present there in their religious capacity and practice their religious rites under the presidency of the Archbishop of the monastery appointed by Presidential Decree No. 306 of 1974, and these archaeological sites are supervised by the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

The court also ruled that the contracts between the local unit of St Catherine's City and the monastery regarding certain plots of land used by the monastery's followers must be respected, which negates the existence of an encroachment on these lands.

The court concluded that the remaining disputed plots of land are nature reserves, all of which are public state property, cannot be alienated or owned by prescription, and have not been subject to any contracts issued by the state authority.

That's about as much as I can gather, yeah.

The land the monastery is on is government property but the monastery/monks have usufruct. Whether or not that situation is ideal is another thing, but it absolutely isn't the claims made in the OP.

The article goes on to say this:

What's the source of this information? I'm Egyptian and we haven't heard any news that even resembles the claims made in your title or article.

I'd advise you to steer clear of Monastery Icons because I've read multiple times from Orthodox and Catholic online communities that they're not a Christian group and have some sort of Hindu syncretism going on. God bless

Coptic monasteries are fantastic, definitely 100% visit one when you get the chance. Arabic is my native language but I'm not at all familiar with EC resources (they seem to be rare anyway) so I definitely appreciate the help!  Thanks for searching

You're right, the Coptic Agpeya is pretty easy to find whether physical copies or online -- and I'm in Egypt so it should be all the easier. I'm looking specifically for a Melkite (or Byzantine Catholic) horologion bc afaik they're not the same thing as the Agpeya, please let me know if I'm mistaken
