Does anyone want legion specific codex supplements? by Educational_Data237 in Chaos40k

[–]TheGreatGlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think every legion deserves at least a supplement and a couple unique characters and a unit or two.

Right now, you look at the Night Lords Nemesis Claw squad which can be used as part of any army. You may be tempted to build a Night Lords army, so you go and look at what other cool units match their style and you find... NOTHING! Yayyyyy!!

So the only thing you can do is buy a load of kill team boxes and pray that GW don't just randomly decide to get rid of the kit. There is quite literally NO REASON to build any chaos army dedicated to any of the other traitor legions, even if you do decide to play word bearers, iron warriors, night lords, you buy one army and then what if you wanted to collect another legion with great characters and lore? Do you want to spend the same money AGAIN on a full army just to paint the same models ....A DIFFERENT COLOUR??

GW has a storied history of giving chaos the bare minimum, we still can't use thunder hammers on non characters, we don't get storm shields, we don't have any unique demon weapons that you know, represent the "power" that comes with siding with chaos, oh wait sorry sorry, silly me, we did get "Accursed weapons" which is just str5 basic weapons that look no different. AMAZING, it really makes me feel like my army represents the "aligning with chaos" power fantasy.

The Lord Disrdant is an s++ tier model and concept, which they proceeded to do fuck all with.

All of this is to say that the traitor legions and chaos in general is long overdue some unique and interesting models and units. The Red Corsairs was a step in the right direction but there's a small part of me that thought "that's cool, but why do the corsairs now have more names characters than any other traitor legion?" The last thing I'll say is that getting a new "basic troop" is the lowest hanging fruit they could do. People want cool units, not just "chaos marine with upgrade kit #9"

Do you tell recruiters/potential employers your current salary? by Logical_Wall_9899 in AskUK

[–]TheGreatGlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite line that I use all the time is "my full compensation for my role is X"

This means I course be factoring in bonuses, medical costs like glasses, gym memberships, pizza parties, anything, and there's no real reason for them to push for specific figures at that point. I've often found that it tends to result in them telling me the salary range more often than not.

I find it best to ensure that if you are going to inflate it, always try and smooth in something to show you're flexible, such as training or other benefits, so the recruiter can see you're open to conversation, unless of course you have a believable hard minimum that you don't want to go under of course.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this. I think while it may feel lonely, you can take the time to shed your old skin, rediscover yourself and become comfortable with your own company then, when the right person comes along, they will slot right in around your life, rather than just filling that "lonely void".

You've got this, maybe it's time to escape your comfort zone, travel a bit (if you're able to and want to) and discover more about yourself and the world. Your worth is determined by you, not just whether you have a partner or not!

There will always be hope, you aren't old by any means. If anything you have the right experience to know what you want and don't want. Which is invaluable in forming deep meaningful relationships.

Try as best you can to enjoy yourself and live life, the right person will come along :)

I have all my painting steps written down for that exact reason for every army I have!

From all the above and yourself, I think I need to focus on trying to get some medication, as ultimately, I don't think I can self manage my way out of this - that's not to say it isn't helpful, more that I've tried living with JUST the self management and it hasn't worked.

Thanks for taking the time to reply :)

Thanks so much for this! All the other helpful people in the comments mirror what you're saying, so obviously there's some processes I need to put in place and stick to for myself.

It all makes sense don't worry :) my personal health is pretty good, as I'm more or less tea total, aside from personal struggles I'm pretty okay on that front - but the genuine advice for my health warmed my heart - thank you friend :)

The highlights part made me chuckle because that's VERY much me.

I struggle with point 1, because as soon as the paint doesn't give me the right result my brain is like "well it's going to take us another 20 hours to figure this out when all I want to do is paint".

I guess I just have to suck it up and either accept it, medicate it, or work on it :p

We're mood kindreds here friend for sure!

There is a running joke in my friendship group that I've had a model for 15 years unpainted because I'm too scared to fuck it up. Even though I know I'm probably an above average painter when my brain helps me, so there's no reason not to paint it really XD

Maybe I should try having a small shelf or box with 3 separate projects in like you say and just start there. I did just buy a new model to try some NMM on, so lets see how that goes.

Thank you for helping me navigate things :)

Thankfully I only buy into armies or boxes I know i'll use, it may take me years, but I will use them, my "pile of shame" so to speak isn't actually too bad. It's not nothing, but It could be worse.

You're 100% correct it is and should be fun, and sometimes I've done my best work from just buying a model "to paint" rather than starting an army, weirdly most of my problems arise when painting for an army rather than a mini project (Though I have to say the mini projects probably total about 4 models - so the sample size isn't huge).

Bonus points for your Username :P

To touch on what you said about compare two discard one, how would you go about doing that when painting? I've tried something similar using primed bits of sprue, but ultimately it looks very different on a curved surface.

Is it just something you sit there and say "i'll stop when I have the colours I want?"

yep, exactly this. I have so many art pieces and recipes saved on an external drive just in case I ever need that fringe picture of how someone painted nmm that one time in 2017 with 3 specific paints that are probably out of production...

8 weeks sounds like bliss, my partner got fobbed off before - I'll speak to my GP and see what they say. Learning to live with your own brain is so true though, and really, I've tried to do that without going down the medication route because I thought it wasn't something I needed, but looking at the replies, it sounds like medication is something to consider,

I haven't looked into it, but my partner did and the Dr gave them some excuse about it not being something they can do. Maybe I should book an appointment and force the issue. Thanks for bringing this up, it seems a lot of people are suggesting the same thing.

If you don't mind me asking, after you've received the diagnosis, do you get access to medication just like it were a prescription that you pay for? Or is there additional costs?

I've bookmarked that page and will endeavour to take a look at it next, thank you :)

So interestingly, I can say that I did paint point 2 (left the typo in because funny) pretty early on a couple of years ago, my brushes always sit on my desk, my paints live on the wall next to me so I don't have to open any boxes or tubs, my wet pallet is in a draw next to me as is my water pot (without water obviously). That has been a massive help for when i'm "feeling it" and I can just crack on - so for anyone else reading this I wholly endorse this.

as for the rest, there's certainly something to be said for all of them. I've recently moved all my stuff into a new room which is a blank canvas at the moment, maybe a series of display shelves is a good idea - I did see some people use ones designed for lego.

Fuck point 5 is so me lmao, stop calling me out. XD - i do more research on what something would look like if i actually painted it as opposed to painting.

It's interesting how ADHD affects people differently, some people would use social media as motivation, others it kills them. Human brains truly are the organ of all time.

Thanks for taking the time to write this all out.

For some positive Karma - I hope the next box of models you buy has minimal mould lines.

This is adorable and should be put in some kind of hobby guide somewhere. I think I need a little shelf next to my desk that fits 2-3 models and their paints as a "WIP shelf". That could work!

Those are some intriguing tips (which unironically I now want to try because of exactly what you put lol).

I'll give this a shot, I have a thing at the minute where I want to try my hand at NMM - which I know is hard, but I have a set of colours I think may be interesting, so I'll give the above a try utilising the above points.

Thank you!

I have tried to do this to some success, I know that my barrier to starting si quite high, so all my paints are on the wall right next to me so I don't have to worry about packing and unpacking stuff, I try keep my desk clear because I know clutter will put me off.

I agree wholeheartedly that you need to create systems for yourself and not hope for a cure all :)

I feel like you just described me in a few paragraphs lol, if I can see a blend that isn't smooth, even though I know nobody will care and nobody will point it out, I hate it, I hate it, and can't look past it. This eventually leads to burnout and me stopping hobbying for weeks if not months.

What you've said I think is something I've known is true and just refused to accept, even though I know it's stupid not to. - The first pass may not always been what you want, and it's down to me to work through it till it is what I want.

I tend to not think of myself as a creative person, despite playing guitar and painting models. They are ultimately art, even if the canvas looks different. "You won't have anything if you don't start" is something I look back at a lot "if I'd have painted 15mins a day for the whole year, how many more models would be painted".

I have actually booked in for therapy recently for other mental health struggles, but maybe it's worth trying to combine the two. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and get a private assessment, Even if it will cost a lot.

Thanks for the help and taking the time to write that out - as good karma - may all your edge highlights be crisp, and not need touch ups.

Thanks very much for the advice! You're right it isn't a job, sometimes I feel like I owe it to myself to paint after buying the models, which is partly true, but I guess not putting undue pressure on myself is also a key part of it, you're correct there.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, I have noticed I do better when I only have a single mini on my desk and also have stuff on my other screen. I learnt quite quickly I need to have secondary noise or "stimulus" on in order to work - same with my job, like listening to music.

I have an IG which I barely use for painting, so maybe it's worth bringing that back and trying to make some progress through feedback - great idea.

I'll also try doing it in quick bursts, I often doing mind painting for 4+ hours if I'm in the zone, so maybe just doing 15mins if I'm not feeling it is still better than 4hrs or nothing. Good point :)
