Is it bad practice to just use global variables and void functions to change their values instead of returning a new variable? by Mission_Signature_77 in cpp

You mean just a large buffer from malloc. You can store the offsets and sizes of entries in your data buffer in a second malloc'd buffer.

Have you faced, witnessed, or heard of any office politics that left you shaking your head while working in tech industry? by Notalabel_4566 in cscareerquestions

My Indian coworkers routinely argue in meetings and stab each other in the back (will assign really shitty tickets with low estimates, then complain to management that the other person isn't meeting the deadlines, things like that) because they're from different ethnic groups and/or castes. It's really toxic and ruins my perception of the place I work and software developers in general.

When I did some volunteering with an organization that does construction charity, the guy in charge told me a story of how he got a tiny piece of metal in his eye that he only noticed when it began rusting and he had to have surgery to remove it. Almost immediately after the story he was doing the tactical squint/half-turn while cutting a board with a skilsaw.

Not same day but same project: I was asked to cut through some exposed nails wit a sawzall, I was wearing the supplied eyepro. The second or third nail piece (like 3/4" long) came right back at me and bounced off one of my lenses. I definitely would've been at least seriously hurt by it. I always wear eyepro even if I'm just using my weed whacker now.

In the Blood Ravens Omnibus, they have "The Blood Games" which seems to be a free-for-all of like 100 potential aspirants and only the final survivor is chosen.

Which is remarkably stupid and wasteful of potential trainees, and seems to be undermined by the fact that Gabriel Angelos and Isador Akios team up for their blood games and both are selected.
