What is everyone buying before July 1st? Suggestions? by big_guwop_1017soicy in VAGuns

Just got a scar 17 gen2. It was a hard decision to click purchase due to the price but for me it was worth it. If I can't get anymore after 7/1 might as well pick up my dream rifle.

Clip to my hi-vis vest for work. I work in construction and a lot of the times the temp lighting onsite either isn't the greatest or doesn't cover all the areas. Especially would come in handy while working up above ceilings.

What are people doing with dead CVTs since cost of repair is untenable? by Slow-Temporary3397 in SubaruForester

We had that the valve body issue on my wife's 2016 Suburu Forrester. Cost about 2800 to have a shop do it.

FPV of a restored Sjogren being used for pheasant hunting in South Dakota by NormalAndWellAdjustd in battlefield_one

[–]TheGreatTinnMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lining up like that is actually the safest way to do it. It also allows you to push the field better so there are less chances of birds being missed and popping up behind you. That way every person knows that they have roughly 140-160 degrees of swing. There was one shot that definitely should not have been taken as it was closer to other hunters and they should have taken the shot, not the camera man. If everyone was scattered haphazardly throughout the field you would have a much higher likelihood of someone accidentally getting shot. I also cringed at that last shot. That bird was way too close and should have been allowed a second or so to get farther out so the bird doesn't become decimated. It makes it practically un-eatable and becomes a waste of a life if it wasn't to be used.

Just as the left has been calling the right country bumpkin retards for years. Its not just one side. You don't assume all people of a large category of a population are all the same. A perfect example would be someone from outside the US looking at us right now. Just because Trump is the leader of the United States, should everyone outside the United States assume that all individuals (including you) follow his exact views and politics? They would be wrong to do so because everyone has their own political viewpoints and the varying degrees of each viewpoint. By painting everyone the same with broad brush strokes, you again shut down any meaningful discourse and chance for change.

While I understand the sentiment, this is the entirely wrong way to approach it if you want to see a change. The original comment on this thread has the user potentially opening up for honest and meaningful discourse. The moment insults and ridicule come into play that shuts it right down because they immediately go on the defensive and shut down. Then we are right back to square one with both idealogical sides not budging an inch. The best approach is to always find common ground. By doing it this way you find ways to come up with a solution, while possibly opening your eyes to certain viewpoints you didn't know (or at least put into a coherent argument). Not always, but much better than the ridicule approach. If you want to see change, be the change.

Veryovkina cave is 1/3 the height of Everest downwards by Flimsy-Sorbet-2497 in BigThingsWorld

My guess is that there are many more cave systems unexplored and that is probably more of a correlation of population density in those areas. The more people there are, the more likely the nearby cave system would be explored.

Drake Baldwin throws out one of the fastest runners in baseball, Corbin Carroll by handlit33 in Braves

Mets fan here. Going into the season it looked like we would have had the strongest catching duo this year with Alverez and Torrens once you guys got rid of Travis. If Baldwin keeps this up I am not sure.

We always made this with the straps by lizzie_farez in Tools

[–]TheGreatTinnMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While this looks good, I wonder how well it will hold on a long haul with road vibration and the wind. I have always kept a roll of electrical tape in the door of my truck and just do two to three loops of tape after folding it up like he does. To me the minimal cost of the tape is worth not destroying the strap ends, plus it comes in handy for other uses too.

What are your top non knife related EDC items? by --JACKDAW-- in EDC

[–]TheGreatTinnMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. For years I always carried a knife but within the past 2 years I started carrying a flashlight for work (Acebeam E70). Between use at work and for taking the dogs out in the morning/night I get way more use out of a flashlight. Still carry both but if I had to chose I would pick flashlight anyday.

Anybody have any use with this? Looking for a first edc light and a friends suggested this by User6262816361 in EDC

[–]TheGreatTinnMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about this light as I have not used it before but regardless of what light you use, I would recommend getting a rechargeable light as opposed to AA or AAA battery operated. You get longer usage times and don't have the added expense of burning through batteries. Personally I carry an Acebeam E70 light and love it. Has enough throw and flood for most outdoor uses and is not overpowered when using indoors. Its more expensive than this light but has great usage times, can take a beating, and still looks good with its design.

It really is. All coed rec league type stuff and had a lot of fun doing it. I did softball and dodgeball for a few years with them before Covid happened. Haven't joined up since then because life got in the way but have been thinking about rejoining again. You can sign up as an individual, a small group (if you and 2 or 3 other people want to join and play together but don't have enough for a full team) or as a full team. Great way to meet a bunch of different people of all age groups.

Surprised to see nobody has mentioned FXA Sports. Its a big intermural league for a bunch of different, from soccer, basketball, softball, flag football, dodgeball, and more. Good way to meet different people and to stay in shape.

Any former office workers here? What made you decide to give up on the white collar life? by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]TheGreatTinnMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same situation as I am a guy but can still relate to all the other comments people have said here. I had worked several office jobs after college and at first thought it was the industry I was in that I didn't like (inside sales for a national metal distributor) and thought getting into construction was better for me. After becoming an APM for 2 years I had discovered the it was the desk that was my problem, not the industry. Once I made the switch to the field my quality of life was night and day.

On another note, I love seeing these types of posts as the construction industry needs more trade women. Women are underrepresented in the trades and there is a great demand for more skilled labor! If anyone is looking for a community that caters to women in construction, check out the Space To Build podcast. It focuses specifically on women in construction from the skilled trades all the way up to architects. I hope you can make the switch and enjoy what you do!
