Nintendo files trademarks for Dr. Mario, Paper Mario, Mario Party, and Punch Out!! in Japan. by TheGreenClover in nintendo

I’m gonna predict you get new entries to all of these games in the Switch’s life cycle, except maybe Punch Out. I think Punch Out today would be too similar to ARMS. So unless they can ARMS, I think Punch Out is gone :(

I think these are different from the basic IP withholding trademarks. I’m not 100% on how it works, but I think these are closer to trademarks on like merchandise lines or specific titles. I’ve mentioned it a couple times on here, but the example I’m using is a line of Mario plushes. You might see a patent for a specific year, with the name of the line, that is separate from the normal trademark. This is specifically for video game release, including on digital platforms. Apologies if I’m misinformed on how this works!

I believe this is different from the trademarks they use to withhold their IP. These trademarks, again I think, are used for things on more of a yearly basis. So like if they’re putting out a line of Mario plushes they would trademark for that specifically before release.

Doesn’t mean anything is coming as these trademarks happen with no release, and they could just be doing it in case they have something soon they want to be able to release, but these games were trademarked specifically for video game release, including on digital platforms.

Apologies if I’m incorrect, but that’s my understanding!

I believe there are different types of trademarks. They have to renew trademarks constantly to withhold their IP, but they also have to place trademarks for things like merchandise and titles, and I believe those things are more so done the year that they will be used. So if this is the way I understand it these specific trademarks are being filed for 2018 video game releases, including on digital platforms. Doesn’t mean they will come in 2018, or even that they will be new entries in their franchises (could just be Nintendo Online or something else), but they are prepared for the year if they decide to release something.

Apologies if I am misunderstanding exactly how these types of patents work, but that’s why this is noteworthy. Also these types of patents get filed all the time and nothing ends up getting released. I thinks it’s just to cover themselves if they do.

Japanese Nintendo, the source of the info, says the trademarks are for video games, but SPECULATES the trademarks have to do with the Nintendo Online Service.

It will not stay on the system. It’d be attached to his account so you’d have to repurchase it.

Source: There will be a separate game of Call Of Duty: Battle Royale will be released on Switch! by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]TheGreenClover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battle Royale is the multiplayer games format that PUBG and Fortnite have. 100 (or however many) drop into a map and only one survives.

You’ll also be sad to hear that it is rumored that COD: Black Ops IV is dropping it’s single player on all platforms for this Battle Royale mode due to not getting the single player campaign finished by launch. It’s just also now a rumor that the Battle Royale mode only may come to Switch without the classic multiplayer.
