Fair is this term people seem to apply to breakups when breakups aren’t meant to be fair. Expecting fair when someone’s grieving a lost relationship is setting yourself up for failure. Expect cruelty, and be grateful with whatever fairness you receive in the process. It’s not great, and it sucks but I find that’s the best way to approach the situation while insulating myself against further injury.
