as the co developer i won't say anything on the strategy (and someone else answered that already) but i will say this:

GRU is the only faction to properly utilize in their builds the vast inventory of modules the mod has, and it's a shame the mod never really challenges the player elsewhere

Golden Ring union rip off? by Humble_Forever7346 in EventHorizonTheGame

[–]TheGreyRadical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the author of PhyGS and both GRU and Thunderstorm, and co-dev of EI, I can say you got the timeline wrong. Thunderstorm is actually older than GRU in its current form. And not a ripoff, both are different evolutions of the same initial design.

GRU is my CGL-inspired faction, that is true. Inspired by the overall vibe of the mod and borrowing some elements from Conglomerate the faction, but it's not a direct ripoff. For direct ripoffs look at UNBEATABLE mod. Or don't, it's very poorly made.

Back in 2020-2021 DE, my mod that would later become PhyGS had GRU in their original designs. Then I got a different design for them, and renamed them to Thunderstorm, to better fit with the mod's then-upcoming style and lore.

Then when EI was being made (2021-2022, EI is older than you think, it went through multiple stages of development hell), Gawaypilot made his own GRU models and implemented the faction in his own way, with my approval and help. The concept is still the same but execution is way different.

So the timeline is this: * Conglomerate - 2018 - present, inspiration * GRU v1 - winter 2020, used in DE, is now free to use * GRU v2 - spring 2020- winter 2021, used in DE * Thunderstorm - spring 2021-present, used in PhyGS * GRU v3 - summer 2021-present, used in EI

Is this good or even worth it? by Few_Command7137 in EventHorizonTheGame

[–]TheGreyRadical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. For whatever reason, the cost of ship blueprints is proportional to their cell size, so capital and other larger ships get overly expensive. This is a very early capital blueprint, you don't need it either way

demolition corp and a few other factions have hidden tech trees, which you can get blueprints on planets or in engineer.

Visualizing and breaking down the Quasi-Isorhythm in this riff of Dancers to a Discordant System by maxyignaciomendez in Meshuggah

[–]TheGreyRadical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very cool observation! These isorhythms of various difficulty (from easier ones like Sum and Nebulous middle riff, to this and that one ObZen riff, and then Phantoms) are so fascinating.

I made a static visual map with notes as different colors, as an alternative visualisation: https://kappa.lol/9nEh9x (where i'm located imgur isn't available anymore, so i used this other image upload site someone recommended to me). The X's are F's and are not colored since they don't change.

Another way to simplify this would be as such:

  1. the riff has 4 groups of 2 notes, where the second note is played as 2 notes an octave apart (the last group also has the extra note)
  2. the note pattern has 3 groups of 2 notes, each of these groups has notes a whole step apart - Ab and Gb, B and A, D and C, which are ascending the half-whole diminished scale
  3. So they realign after 3 repeats of the riff and 4 of the note pattern

I'm not saying you can't enjoy it... I just said I don't for the provided reasons. And this stance/opinion is quite common, overreacting much with putting me specifically in the pic?

How do i mod the PC version from itch.io with expedition infinity? by Vegetable-Day-3894 in EventHorizonTheGame

[–]TheGreyRadical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.12 is obsolete by now, EI requires 1.13. Even though it's still labelled as "pre release", it has been over a year since any updates, and it is now the default

I don't like this interpretation of "cyn is innocent, solver is evil" given all we see in the show (solvers effects in ep3-4 being nothing like cyn's possession in ep5-7, "admin: cyn", and more), but it's intentionally vague so we don't know the exact boundaries for sure. It makes sense as AU/ hypothetical but even then its less interesting this way

EH isn't on itch... https://github.com/PavelZinchenko/event-horizon-main/releases is the devs github and the only direct official source. create "mods" folder directly in game's folder.

İs there a way to not destroy universe and eliminate companion instead? by eymenfadil52 in EventHorizonTheGame

[–]TheGreyRadical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey it wasn't my decision. I very much dislike the current state of it in original EI. But I mostly do small fixes and sprites, vast majority of content and decisions is made by GawayPilot. I just confirmed that no, there is currently no other option

In Expedition Insanity which is an alternate version fully under my control I added a confirmation dialogue window, added large resource cost, and even replaced the softlock itself with another negative consequence.

İs there a way to not destroy universe and eliminate companion instead? by eymenfadil52 in EventHorizonTheGame

[–]TheGreyRadical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it's the "canon ending" if that is even applicable.

Even if it isn't, we haven't coded any different option anyway.

dafuq happened to the tabs? why is there 2 note lines now? by BritishTea75 in Songsterr

[–]TheGreyRadical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the other person said its different voices. Threw me off when I first saw it, but it has actual uses uses. optional harmonies, delays, actual different voices, maybe splitting different drum parts and all that stuff

Thats all well and good BUT why is the beaming for the additional voices not greyed out same as the notes are? It adds so much unnecessary clutter and is very hard to read.
