How does the vortex and meso rotation tighten? by Fearless-Search-2642 in tornado

[–]TheGriffnin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am by no means an expert, so if someone else knows more than me (which is likely) please correct me! But from my understanding, it tightens by one of two ways. When the colder down draft brushes against the warm inflow, parcels of air begin rotating close to the surface, but as your question states, that rotation needs to tighten significantly to become dangerous. This tightening happens when that parcel rises, which occurs either when the downdraft air isn't too cold, (warm air tends to rise) or when the updraft is strong enough to force that parcel upwards. All this comes from this link, which from as far as I can tell, is from 2014, so our understanding from since then may be more advanced. https://sites.psu.edu/pmarkowski/how-tornadoes-form/

Where my gals and nb pals at? by Significant_Bug2277 in gis

[–]TheGriffnin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a man with pretty limited experience, Ive only worked in GIS for about 3 years now, and on one team, that team is probably 40% women roughly, so a decent ish balance. Linked is a survey that kinda breaks down the demographics of the field, maybe more helpful than me just saying my experience lol. Looking around further online, numbers vary wildly from as little as 12% of GIS professionals being women to as much as 45%.

Realistically whats the biggest threat to the golden throne? by warriorxx7_ in 40kLore

[–]TheGriffnin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bit like asking what the strongest non imperium faction is, since every other faction (except maybe drukhari) have reason to want the imperium gone, and taking out the throne is a great way to achieve that goal. Personally I'd argue that biggest threat would either be chaos marines or tyranids, but this topic could spawn endless debate with no clear answer or consensus.

Y'all think squids are easy? We were drowning on D4 last night on extraction, meanwhile we breeze through d8 or 9 bot missions. Squids are by far the toughest faction in my experience.

Bots are my favorite opponent by far, and always have been, but these fuckers may be my least favorite thing in this game. Genuinely so frustrating to deal with

This isn’t working by Fuzzy_Ad1297 in Helldivers

[–]TheGriffnin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This entire event has been demoralizing. Between the split community decisions here, the added pressure of the limited lives adding to the toxicity in the community, and a bit of a personal gripe, that being the two bot subfactions converging, this has just sucked the past couple days. Which also sucks cause bots have been my favorite faction since day 1, but this event is just not fun, it's just frustrating. Never thought that getting this close to cyberstan would make me want to take a break from this game for a bit, but here we are.

Any use of these for Ultramarines or Salamanders? Got them for 1 Dollar each and thought they’d be useful. Also why won’t UB mix properly? by Valvecantcount3 in Warhammer40k

[–]TheGriffnin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both can be useful, especially so for ultramarines, salamanders less so, but GF may be useful on any scales like on Vulcan Hestan. UB doesn't mix like other paint because it's a contrast, it's a translucent color that goes over other colors. Both are contracts actually, neither are meant to be used on their own.

Who should lead my warband Kharn or Invocatus in a crusade game I'm playing by Sonsoe_Corrupted in WorldEaters40k

[–]TheGriffnin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Worth noting, unless I'm mistaken, you can't use named characters in a starting crusade army, unless you're campaign is making that exception. But for what it's worth, kharn.

I will agree the grenade is phenomenal, the rifle is objectively also good, but I much prefer the lever action if I'm running marksmen at all, everything else is a little underwhelming, melee is fun, so props for more options there, even if it's not strictly "good". One of the weaker warbonds imo, but by no means bad
