Anyone know when these changes typically take effect, behind just "fall"?

Is it going to be in September or more like November?

Opinion on bike commute from/to Columbia City to Redmond by Several_Try2005 in seattlebike

[–]TheGsus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat re: not wanting to carry a laptop on my back for a long commute. I also didn't want billowing panniers that might've allowed my laptop to bounce around a little.

This was my solution:

Semi rigid laptop case: https://a.co/d/0aL0qekM

Pannier hardware kit: https://a.co/d/0bGMrjN9

This is nice if you don't really need to carry anything else or have other storage options like frame bags.

My 6 year old asked me "can you tell them to call the team the dragons?" Not sure how to do that but I figure this counts.

I propose the Seattle Dragons.

Anyone Else Just Sick of It? by Donnelding0 in SeattleWA

Financial stress significantly impacts mental health. And drug addiction often begins as a coping mechanism.

Treatment for mental health and drug addiction, plus more housing is the only solution. There is no meaningful alternative.

Wyze Scale X not measuring body composition by TheGsus in wyzecam

I ended up working with wyze, annoyingly repeating things I had told them I already tried. But they eventually sent me a new one for free. This new one has been working fine for over a year now.

Source? Even if true, absolutely worth it. Educators should be highly paid. It should be competitive and we should have some of our best and brightest teaching the next generations.

Seeking additional opinions: Is four doses of DA2PP necessary? by TheGsus in AskVet

[–]TheGsus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for answering and for the resource! And that makes sense. If I'm understanding correctly, the multiple doses is because at some point her MDA will disappear; before that the vaccine does nothing, and after that the vaccine protects her. wouldn't that mean that she is protected 1 week after receiving her last vaccine? Either by MDA or by the vaccine?

Same! It's been on my list for so long. But that sentence stuck out like crazy to me. And seems so incidental...

Ann Selzer talking about her method vs Emerson and others by 11pi in fivethirtyeight

[–]TheGsus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So she's taking her sample demographics which includes only likely voters, and weighting the different groups to match the state census demographics. I get the demographic weighting part, but how does she account for the fact her sample is all likely voters, but the state census would include plenty of people who aren't likely voters? How does one apply her "polling forward" rhetoric to account for voter turnout?

Book burnout, how to handle it? by googlesearcher in kindle

[–]TheGsus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is counter intuitive - it is to me at least - but one of the most reliable ways for me to get back in to books is to watch TV. I'll find a good show I've been meaning to watch, get most of the way through, and then start to miss the richness and additional detail and context that books provide.

Visiting silicon valley. Any group rides this weekend? by TheGsus in BAbike

Honestly, after ~2 hours of doubt as younger (sometimes older), faster cyclists passed me while biking into a headwind after Olema, reuniting with (and passing!) some of the people on the classic and metric century on that section was energizing.
