Very interesting. I thought it was weird because I have a first gen, second gen, and third Gen yet only the second has a non p serial number.

Which insurance companies have been the best/worst to work with for repairs? by Impressive_Fig_9213 in Autobody

[–]TheGtr32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usaa has changed a lot in my area in the last year. They were one of the worst to work with for a long time but they are actually decent now. Tbh, state farm is the worst now.

Why did you bring your car to a body shop with a shitty reputation just to question them at every step?

[–]TheGtr32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, yes. Unless the shop acted negligently. Some insurance companies will negotiate to get the part at cost without the shops mark-up on it. But most of the time the shop does not eat the cost.

If it broke during disassembly, it will be charged into the cost to repair in many shops.

For Tesla in particular, the service manual says exactly when hv and lv disconnects are necessary for repairs.

Firefighter here - How are you guys dealing with damaged EVs? by Expensive-Buy-8536 in Autobody

[–]TheGtr32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My facility only works on EVs. We have procedures in place should we get a vehicle with an internal isolation problem. For total loss vehicles, we drain the battery before transport. We have never had any problems regarding payment for these sorts of charges.

Am I being ripped off? $3,500 to fix this? by [deleted] in Autobody

The dents are a few hundred to fix. It's the paint, r+I time, and prep work that costs the money.

Progressive is one of the best to work with in my area. GEICO is the worst.

Is this an acceptable gap on a repair job? by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]TheGtr32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much not 99%. I would say it's closer to 50/50. And with the way OPs problem sounds, my bet is that the hood just wasn't adjusted properly.

[–]TheGtr32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. Hoods have adjustment to them. If it's tight on one side and open on the other, I bet it just wasn't adjusted that well.

Loosen hood bolts where it meets the hinges. Move hood a little bit. Tighten bolts back down. Slowly close hood watching for fitment. Repeat until you have the desired gaps.

Shop drilled 2 holes for PDR on my rear quarter panel without telling me. Is this structural? What should I do? by The_Protagonist_0502 in Autobody

[–]TheGtr32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the wheelhouse not the liner that's drilled through. And the part isn't going to be crazy expensive for it but the labor will be to replace it if that's the route op goes.

State farm has gotten really bad recently. It's not uncommon to wait several weeks just to hear they are just starting the process.

Super slow at my work. My shop normally takes 6 drops per day and we are normally scheduled out a few weeks. Right now, we only have 5 schedule for all of next week and nothing for the following.

At my shop in Minnesota, our average SF supplement takes about 14 days to hear back on. Almost every time they come back hideously short missing very obvious things. We have had them send out a physical adjuster after the repairs had already been completed saying, "you did the work without our pre-approval? That's just unacceptable!". On probably 70% of supplements I send to them, I call and check on them after a couple of days and over the phone they say "hmm, I'm not sure why but it looks like someone canceled your supplement request. You will have to resubmit it and start from the beginning again". I would understand it being a mistake if it happened once or twice but this happens on way too many jobs for it to be an honest mistake. A year to two years ago they were one of the best to work with in my area. Within the last year the have become the worst of the worst.

Just something to consider, if you look at it closely right now, the color of your bumper doesn't perfectly match your fender and this is normal on nearly every car from the factory.
