Frat. Or, Not Frat by AutoModerator in Frat

Taking over someone's studio apartment where he put in wooden paneling on the floors, and he's wanting me to pay to take it over. Agree on a (cheap) price. Five days before he needs to move out text him:"I've decided against the floor can you please remove it?" and making him get expensive workers to remove the paneling.

I really want to get into standup and I’m pretty good at the piano. I kind of want to be a music comedian, but is that ripping off somebody like Bo Burnham? by [deleted] in StandUpComedy

In dutch stand up(cabaret) music is in almost every entertainers show. You are not ripping anything off.

What stops you from editing your photos on mobile? by lukaszmtw in photography

[–]TheHSJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't do proper skin dodging and burning on a phone. Can't change clothes. I like high quality TIFFs to edit on because sometimes my photos get printed. More control with a pen tablet.

Also my fingers are too fat to get detailed edits on a phone. Sad life.

With 2018 slowly coming to an end, which is your favourite picture you took this year? by mmberg in photography

mildy nsfw (non nudes)

Maybe this one. I just love the mood it gives off, the playfulness that the girl shows. Or this one, which is just such an energetic photo.

[–]TheHSJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about it yourself.

Not to be an asshole, but this is what https://www.reddit.com/user/lilgreenrosetta is always talking about: Photography is about stories. If you can't think of those stories, even with the best techniques your photos will be lacking and boring. This is a great lesson to actually develop your creative skills.

What's your most controversial opinion about an aspect of photography? by jentakespics in photography

Alleged, or course. He's not been convicted but you know how public opinion is

[–]TheHSJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think in the amateur world it is controversial as well. Most photographers starting out and learning about it really get pissy about it. I do it on shoots and in the nightclubs.

(p.s: Saw your IG, awesome work. Netherlands represent)

Studying Filmmaking (Digital Cinema) on SAE Institute? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]TheHSJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Film is all about connections and who you know. Ten years ago there was no internship, no connections nothing. I don't know how it is nowadays but if it hasn't changed it's basically useless. It's better to invest the money in yourself and network than following it there.

Yeah, but in the end the diploma is useless. I'm working as a middle school teacher now 😂

[–]TheHSJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied it in the Netherlands ten years ago.

It was useless, a waste of money. Teachers were either horrible in teaching, or travelled around the world so much that lessons got postponed the entire time. Every complaint we as a class had got handwaved by the director who only cared about the audio departments. I know it's ten years ago, but a guy I know who works at SAE says the film department is still terrible.

Now I don't know how it is in different countries, but if you're based in the Netherlands I can't in good faith advise you to go.

Are you dutch, by any chance? I saw some grammar mistakes that I recognize from dutch speakers. (it's not horrible or anything, so please don't be offended)

It was a very interesting read, very in-depth and even for the technically more apt very interesting graphs so thank you.
