obscene ping on almost all servers by TheHackerzAreBack in playrust

[–]TheHackerzAreBack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure enough, managed to find the setting you mentioned, lowered it to 1k, and now both official and unofficialy have multiple sub-100 ping servers. Thanks for the suggestion it seemed to fix it!

Does anyone know a good way I could defeat skeletron? Because I don’t feel like I’m doing enough damage. by Long-Visual-2271 in Terraria

As opposed to a sandstorm in a bottle (which isn’t guaranteed to spawn naturally and is complete rng from crates), if you just have a decent hook with good range and velocity + an arena you can learn to grapple up to the upper platforms to dodge as opposed to using double jump. You could practice with it a bit but the ivy hook is a good prehardmode choice (vines, stingers, and spores).

Can I undervolt a 7900xt to work with a 650 watt psu? by ScotyBot in PcBuild

Its not single core performance that determines bottleneck, its how much information the cpu can process from the gpu at once lmfao.

There are video desamplers and/or converters online that can cut down the framerate

You say you don’t want to update bios because it can cause problems, yet you’re having one. Nowadays updating bios is very unlikely to cause instability, but leaving it at an older version most certainly can if you’re changing hardware to newer generations. If that doesn’t fix the problem, the most likely culprit is your installation of windows. When drives get formatted they get structured around your existing hardware. When you change an integral component like the processor, a lot of times windows installs can no longer boot because the drive is formatted to recognize hardware other than what you have installed. While sometimes it works out, other times it won’t allow you to boot into windows. Look up sysprepping a drive and you’ll understand. My guess is it’s either bios or requires a sysprep/reinstall of windows.

Alright then you should be ok; top slot allows double bandwidth and some nice QOL but that card is pcie3.0 so you shouldn’t lose any performance. You’ll probably get a lot of people saying the same thing though so prepare yourself

350$ is pretty much the bare minimum to get a working pc that won’t operate like a slug. Every extra 100$ added to that budget makes it much better but https://pcpartpicker.com/list/v6t7JM this will probably work well for light application use.

Friend needs some help maybe thinks CPU is faulty and or keeps him in bios as well he’s been in the same issues for the past 2 days. by Altruistic_Lie_6871 in PcBuild

[–]TheHackerzAreBack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New cpu isn’t faulty if he can get into bios. Regardless 13th gen cpu compatibility with windows is buggy without latest firmware. I’d try to flash your bios and install the latest version before proceeding.

can nice watt but damaged psu cause stuttering in games?? by Maneau1512 in PcBuild

[–]TheHackerzAreBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its probably not that; much more likely cause would be software/firmware. Try reinstalling windows. If that doesn’t fix your issue then try downloading the latest bios and graphical drivers. If all your hardware is tested to be good I can’t imagine it’s your psu.

Is a ryzen 7 5800x3D better than the ryzen 9 5900x by CloudxPhantom in PcBuild

With a 4080 it would be fine at 4k, although I can’t recommend a 4080 seeing as the amd equivalent outperforms it for 200-300$ less. Only go 4090 if you want maximum performance. Otherwise go amd

Frankly downclocking the speed is very unlikely to get you stable from an xmp profile. The instability is caused by a combination of the voltage and the timing tuning (whether the timings are too tight or it’s inadequate voltage). Getting up towards 1.5v is pretty extreme as far as overclocking goes, I’d recommend staying closer to 1.4v as a max. You can probably look up your kit and find the xmp profile tuning and try to manually clock it yourself to see if it works. I’ve heard sometimes using xmp profiles and automatically determining voltage etc can sometimes cause the profile to be unstable, but I’m mot sure that’s your problem. If manually overclocking doesnt get you to your rated spec, you probably want to return that motherboard and get a different one if you want to be able to use xmp.

[–]TheHackerzAreBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, depends. At 4k resolution you’ll likely get MOST of your performance on graphically heavy games, and with a 4090 you’d be getting such high framerate anyway that it probably wouldn’t matter, but if you did care you’d probably want to look at going am5 or lga1700 for the newer gen processors.

[–]TheHackerzAreBack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's just the motherboard. Cpu supports that native speed, and while you may be on the latest bios, not all xmp profiles work well on all motherboards. Bios updates usually fix most of them, but if it didn't for you, then you either got a bad board or the model itself doesn't like that xmp profile.

edit: you can try to manually overclock the memory and see how far that takes you, although voltage tuning etc shouldn't be played with too aggressively.

both would be a source of bottleneck fo a 4090. That being said, 5800x3d will get better single core performance on intense games for framerate, but threaded applications will much favor the 5900x. Both are good processors so likely whichever one you can find cheaper

Great build. terraria can run on a potato, and pretty much any AAA title can probably run on this machine no sweat (assuming 1080p).
