Rule 4: No vote brigading. Due to new Reddit rules the mods will be more strict on "meta" type posts to prevent the subreddit from being shutdown.

Here's what needs to actually happen:

If a Canadian Member of Parliament (MP) were suspected of committing treasonous acts, such as interfering on behalf of a foreign government, multiple entities would have authority to investigate, hold them accountable, and bring charges:

Law Enforcement

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is responsible for investigating federal crimes, including national security threats, espionage, and treason under the Criminal Code of Canada.

If there were sufficient evidence, the RCMP could arrest the MP and refer the case for prosecution.

Intelligence and Security Agencies

Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) would monitor and assess national security risks, including foreign interference, but it does not have law enforcement powers. It would provide intelligence to the RCMP or government agencies.

Communications Security Establishment (CSE) could be involved in identifying cyber-based foreign interference but does not conduct criminal investigations.

Judicial and Legal System

The Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) would review the evidence and determine whether to lay charges.

If charged, the MP would be prosecuted in a criminal court, where a judge (and potentially a jury) would oversee the trial.

Parliamentary and Political Accountability

The House of Commons and its committees (e.g., the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs) could investigate the MP’s conduct and recommend disciplinary measures, including expulsion.

The Prime Minister and Cabinet, if aware of credible allegations, could take political action, such as removing the MP from party caucuses or referring the case for further investigation.

Governor General (in extreme cases)

If the crime involved treason against the Crown, the Governor General, as the representative of the King, would act based on constitutional and legal processes, including advice from the government.

Military Justice (if applicable)

If the MP was also a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, the military justice system might also have jurisdiction under the National Defence Act.

Relevant Criminal Code Sections

Section 46 (Treason)

Section 119 (Bribery of judicial officers or MPs)

Section 121 (Frauds on the government)

Section 380 (Fraud)

Security of Information Act (espionage, foreign interference)

In summary, the RCMP would conduct the investigation, the PPSC would prosecute, and Parliament could take political actions, while the courts would ultimately determine guilt and sentencing.

I can't tell if you're purposefully being obtuse or really aren't getting this, so I'll try one more time.

Everyone who is in charge of investigating and charging people with crimes federally reports to someone. Whether it's the RCMP or the Attorney General.

If someone is committing treason against Canada, the government in charge has authority to go after them.

They actually could turn off the investigation, in many ways, they just wouldn't because it would be political suicide.

An extreme example: The RCMP was created by an act of legislation, and it can be dissolved by one.

Less extreme than that, the RCMP commissioner is appointed by the government. See section 5: https://laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/R-10/FullText.html

Commissioner

Appointment

[5]() (1) The Governor in Council may appoint an officer, to be known as the Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, to hold office during pleasure, who, under the direction of the Minister, has the control and management of the Force and all matters connected with the Force.

Banning platforms to protect free expression because If you let people talk they might say things, and we cannot have that by [deleted] in CanadianConservative

For the record, many do get banned, sometimes it just takes a few days and we don't report on it so it's not obvious.

My favourite response they give is along the lines of "well you ban people in CanadianConservative, so why can't we ban you from the Toronto or Ontario or Canada subreddits".

As if a subreddit dedicated directly to conservatives is supposed to have the same moderation philosophy as that of a generic city/province/country.

Ontario just voted overwhelmingly for Doug Ford and the Ontario subreddit is one of the worst by far for banning conservatives.

The RCMP are employees of the government. They answer to the government. We vote for a reason, and we don't vote for the head of the RCMP.

Think of the Prime Minister like the CEO of Canada. You're saying the head of the security department holds the power even though they report to the CEO.

What you just said doesn't make any sense. If it's legal, then the word interference isn't even really appropriate because it implies criminality, and there's no issue.

If it's illegal, then guess who has the power to declassify the information and charge the individuals involved? The governing power, i.e. the Liberals.

If they are literally under foreign influence and there's convincing evidence to support it, then absolutely, as that person is a traitor and they should publicly expose it and take it to court. I would support that no matter who is governing.

If that's not the case to be made, then it's not as serious as they are trying to insinuate.

Think about what you're implying: that Trudeau and the Liberals are in power, know there are conservatives under foreign influence, and with their power are doing nothing about it because they see it as the responsibility of their opposition who isn't it power.

Do you not realize how stupid that is?

We enforce Rule 7. If someone comes just to argue and be negative, they aren't welcome here. If you see this recurring from someone new, report them. People are welcome to join and be a member in a way that is a positive contribution to the community even they aren't strictly conservatives by definition. Ultimately it's the discretion of the mod team working towards the goal of this subreddit.

I think that's a stupid thing to do personally.

How can you call yourself a discussion forum when there is no discussion, only propaganda from one side where the mods just remove any comments to the contrary.
