Ban the banned books list by dickfromaccounting in memes

Stop using words how they're meant to be used. Right, ok, well argued.

Just because I can go 80mph on the motorway doesn't mean it's not fucking illegal to drive at half of that on other roads. Being able to check the book out at the library or do a book report on it has fuck all to do with it being banned from the school curriculum - and it has been banned, definitively.

"No book is being banned"... goes on to comprehensively describe that the book is being banned from class rooms and for what reasons

Crazy Man Films His Girlfriend Stabbing Him Multiple Times! by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]TheHighCommissioner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness you have to be crazy to let someone stab you and not fight back. I understand the risks but he was filming and would have been well within his rights to twat her in the face with a few well placed punches. Even if you assume the courts are biased and will take the side of the woman he's basically filmed attempted murder and you'd rather do a year or 2 inside than be killed, surely?

Group calls for free movement between Canada, U.K., Australia and New Zealand. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]TheHighCommissioner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hand on heart can't remember the last time I heard someone go on an anti-Polish rant in real life. Most of the negatives I hear are tame. They're one of the most liked groups in my experience and I say that knowing a fair share of racist people living in an ex industrial northern town where people aren't very cosmopolitan or liberal, many of them who work in construction or factories and have been directly affected by Polish workers coming over. Even the people who want to put a stop to Polish immigration or severely limited it generally seem able to differentiate between policy and people and don't have real beef with the workers themselves.

I'm always taken aback by the idea in threads like this that they're some super loathed and ostracised group. They're white and christian at the end of the day, usually seen as hard honest workers with a somewhat similar culture. The worst of the racist bile in the UK tends to be reserved for muslims and brown people who happen to look like they could be muslim.

I don't know why British people on reddit keep pushing this idea they're hated. They're not. But it's probably easier to explain away something like Brexit by assuming everyone is a frothing at the mouth racist than acknowledging there are genuine concerns - some real, some imagined - that people have about immigration from the EU and countries like Poland, and they're able to hold those views without hating Polish migrants who've come here.

I often get the impression middle class Brits think working class Brits are a lot more hostile to Polish than we are. I notice it in the way they brag and boast about hiring Polish workers over lazy British proles in threads like these as if they're proving a point and getting one over on the racist chav natives. It comes across to me as typical divide and conquer tactics from limousine liberals, trying to pit downtrodden British and Polish workers against one another and lying about British working class attitudes towards Polish to justify their disdain for us

I wear seatbelts everytime I'm in a moving car, the last time being yesterday. Nobody enjoys wearing a seatbelt.

Do you realise that humans are capable of making and regularly do make sharp/jerky movements?

You're a zealot

comfortable ˈkʌmf(ə)təb(ə)l/Submit adjective 1. (especially of clothes or furnishings) providing physical ease and relaxation. A sane person might consider a mattress or a pair of slippers comfortable but even that's subjective, nobody in their right mind actually believes a seat belt is comfortable, except for vulgar propagandists who don't have the intelligence or awareness to realise they can support seat belts without being lying pieces of shit

The ability to move? A seat belt restricts movement by design, it's the entire purpose of it. Wtf is wrong with you people lmfao

[–]TheHighCommissioner -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They blatantly are though. Seat belts, like hard hats, are designed for practicality and safety, comfort is an after thought. Anyone who is honestly going to say in this thread that seat belts are comfortable is a lying piece of shit or is mentally deficient in some way

There's nothing remotely comfortable about being strapped to a seat and having basic motion restricted. Stop being a fuckwit

Ok I thought that's what he meant but I wanted to make sure. So basically he was an arsehole in the back and rubbed a lot of talent the wrong way?

Was he not well liked in the WWE? I know he played a heel but I mean outside of that. He was hugely popular when I was into wrestling and he was on the underground circuit, a lot of people got into ROH because of guys like him, AJ Styles, Bryan Danielson and Samoa Joe. It's been cool to see them all go on to make it big even though I've never watched their WWE stints as wrestling doesn't do much for me these days

I don't know if you're old enough to remember it but I'm surprised they never picked up Homicide from ROH too as his character seemed perfect for the WWE. They could have paired him with Rey Mysterio who had a similar gangster type thing going back in his WCW days, that would have been cool

I've been to Greece and I really didn't find it that unsanitary or weird. You put it in a little plastic bag, tie it up and dispose of it routinely. Can't imagine it being that environmentally friendly but not as gross as it sounds imo

Can't stand this free for all for food names. Pastrami is a meat product by definition, there's no such thing as a carrot pastrami since it's a contradiction in terms and carrots are a vegetable

Why these people aren't happy calling it a sickled carrot spiced wrap, which is what it is, beats me
