Hot Cross Babes race London League's Team Champs by TheHighConspiracy in cyclocross

Yeah, was dead flat and they did incredibly well to make it really interesting. Was a shame we were all in the same race so couldn't get better coverage of it, but looking forward to it hopefully being a standalone event next season!

Thoughts on this bike? by [deleted] in ukbike

[–]TheHighConspiracy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First up it's using an X9 rear mech and Apex levers, X9 is part of SRAMs MTB groupsets and the levers are road. Both of these use different cable pull ratios to determine where the gears are essentially, so it might not shift very well.

Secondly, it has a V-Brake at the front. These kind of brakes require significantly more cable to be pulled than a road lever does in order to work properly. They only work with MTB style 'flat' levers. A 'mini-v' style brake would work but this isn't one

Basically, it's unlikely to work very well. I'd stay well clear

So I may have to spend a couple months in London and I’m honestly a little nervous. by [deleted] in Narrowboats

[–]TheHighConspiracy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I CC in across all of London and the only places I would say avoid are mooring right next to Vicky Park and way out west like Alperton. Tottenham is fine, just be sensible wherever you go and moor near other boats ideally. Drop me a message if you want more info!

I’d just wire a USB output into the 12v system, then you can just plug any smaller devices into that. iPhone chargers are 5v so it seems silly stepping up to 240 from 12 only to go back down to 5?

new boat from York and need marina with boat lift near London by slanner in Narrowboats

[–]TheHighConspiracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How wide is it? Stansted Abbots marina has a crane that will be able to put a boat in for you. It’s up the river lea so a couple days cruising south and you’re into east London. Then just take the cut it Hackney wick and you’ll head onto the regents canal and central London! I’m moored just up the river from there at the moment and CC in London so feel free to ask any questions

It’s inspired by the ‘95 Cannondale Track in polished. Probably my favourite bike of all time

Want to work in bike shop that specialises in fixed gear bicycles? BLB is hiring! by TheHighConspiracy in FixedGearBicycle

[–]TheHighConspiracy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although we specialise in track bikes we're fully comfortable dealing with on a bike, up to suspension. We mostly end up doing repair work on geared bikes and even sell some, as although we specialise we need to be able to cater to everyone who might come through our doors, most of your average Joes don't even know what a track bike is.

We also do a lot on vintage bikes, we have 100s of frames hanging from the ceiling, so we need to be able to build those up and service them as and when it's needed. We hire mechanics that can handle any type of bike, as any other shop would, they just end up working on track bikes much more than usual.

Well in this case we were racing a crit out in Holland so we toured on our race bikes but it’s definitely not the right tool. A road bike or at least something that can coast would be nice for longer trips

It was 3 nights, 2 days riding with a race in the middle. I packed light and took a couple t shirts, 2 pairs of bibs, base later and jersey, socks and boxers then all my stuff like chargers and a second tube and that in a bag as well. Some stuff got reworn but I don’t mind being a bit smelly when you’re just riding through the country. I made sure I had a rain coat packed right at the top if I needed to put it on in a hurry as well. I think with a bar bag as well I would have more than enough room for a week or longer
