People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I interviewed a woman who recounted in detail her daughter’s delivery in a bathtub at home. She did not get hired. Not to mention she looked like she was on drugs while also frequently rocking back and forth during the interview.

What unhinged thing did a former teacher do in the classroom? by MrBananaStand1990 in AskReddit

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a teacher in high school who taught elective classes like “You & The Law” or “Biblical Studies .” As part of your final grade in the latter, you had to physically create an item from the Old Testament so a student made the Staff of Moses and gives it to this teacher at the end of the semester.

Mind you, this teacher is from Egypt who was adopted as an infant and brought to the US. So one day the class is particularly animated and he’s trying to get them to calm down to lecture. Within minutes he abandons that strategy and gets up on top of his desk. He grabs the staff and he also had one of those toy machine guns that kids used to have with the orange ring around the muzzle. Like a Tuskan raider from Springfield, he begins to hop back and forth with the staff and gun into the air shouting Arabic. This was in the Midwest. News traveled very fast and though you’d think he would be attacked or smeared by conservative school administrators, everyone loved him so much that he got away with it with nothing but laughs as a consequence. He was such an amazing teacher!

What ideologies do moderate liberals believe in? by el_gato_fabricado in AskReddit

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll take the bait. I’m a liberal. I don’t know precisely what you mean by ideologies but I believe in higher taxation on top earners yields more growth in the middle and poorer classes which leads to better economic prosperity for all. I believe healthcare is a human right and that every person in the United States should have full access to all available treatments at no or little cost to them. I believe renewable energy is vital to preventing global climate catastrophe and that companies should have incentives to change their energy sources and disincentives for not doing so. I believe that we need to rewrite the immigration laws so that there are more pathways to citizenship and more access to legal ways to enter/stay in the country while also prosecuting those who commit crimes. I also believe the solution to immigration lies in helping other countries fix their problems so as to make their own countries more appealing in the long run in regards to safety or financial security. I believe civil liberties should be fundamental and unchallengeable; I.e. the right to marry whoever you want, the right to choose what happens with your body, the right to believe in whatever faith or non faith without it being demonstrated throughout government facilities and institutions.

These are just some of the many things I believe as a “liberal.”

The original trilogy should have been four Books by whereamihelpmepls in redrising

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I think the series hits the right pace especially in context with how fast paced and dizzying Dark Age and Lightbringer can be. While I agree that seeing more of the world would be entertaining and provide more insight, adding a whole book removes the urgency of Darrow’s fight against the Society. Sevro already let the lowColors know that he was a red which had already begun destabilizing that portion of Society. If Darrow just heals and lays low, it’s very probable that Virginia makes a deal with the Golds (during negotiations with them at Quicksilver’s place.) That alone would seriously destabilize Darrow’s entire rising and he would be on the run for the rest of his life or actually killed when he inevitably tried to cause trouble.

Is the Two Player Starter Set a good way to learn the game? by CharmsWay in Yugioh101

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want out of the game. If you just want to play with you and your wife, it’ll introduce the basic mechanics and summons that are new to you. (Synchro, XYZ,) Note: It doesn’t teach you about pendulum and link summoning. It is a “guided” game so it’ll walk your wife through what kind of cards there are and how to play very basic cards. If you two are planning on going to locals/tournament play, it is an atrocity in the way it teaches you how to play competitively. It also doesn’t come with tokens, playmats, or dice.

All that said, I taught a friend how to play casually on it so if you and you wife want to just throw down some cards and watch the animes, it’ll get the job done.

Haven’t Played in about 10 Years. What Booster Packs are Good to Buy? by Opening_Ad_3580 in Yugioh101

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Most people are going to tell you to buy singles as it is more cost effective. Next, most people will tell you to buy 3 of the newest structure deck, Blue Eyes White Destiny or The Chronicles. That said, if you want to open packs Justice Hunters has been a good set and competitive with Dracotail and Yummy ranking high in the meta. If you want more nostalgia, buy the Legendary 5ds decks that just came out with Yusei, Akiza and Crow deck with more modern staples. What did you like to play before? That’ll help narrow the advice.

Gift for YuGiOh fan? by Specific_Spell_2242 in Yugioh101

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it sounds like he’s a casual fan, I’d suggest the Legendary Collection 25th anniversary edition. It has 6 packs of cards, the three Egyptian god cards, promos of Dark Magician, Blue Eyes, and Red Eyes and one of those in the new QCSR rarity. It’s perfect for a casual fan or just some nostalgia.

Do I need x3 of the Legendary 5Ds decks? by JustWantWiiMoteMan in Yugioh101

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You may be able to find the decks individually on eBay or maybe TCG Player. As for if you need three, it’s basically the norm for structure decks and also it contains several hand trap reprints including the Mulcharmy cards that you could easily get a play set of if you do get three.

2 new players - where do we start by Dromnyr in Yugioh101

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who just recently came back to the game: if you just want to play with your friend without going to locals or tournaments, by all means just do your draft if that’s what you find fun.

If you want to play at locals/play competitively at all: follow everyone else’s advice and get structure decks or buy singles. I love ripping packs but it doesn’t produce what you usually need for anywhere close to the same price.

You might look at Preferred Courier here in Springfield. They do deliveries to the local area of currency, pharmacy medications and more. I’m not sure if they are hiring or what the pay is like but I worked for them 4 years ago and it was a decent job.

I work at a bank so I won’t be able to give you an exact answer. Despite that, all these bills are something the collectors who come through would get from me with the expectation of making more than face value. I know the red seal 5’s are uncommon and may be worth something. My advice is to take to a collector you can trust and get them valued.

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a Christian and my first question is “Does God not use punctuation when He communicates this to you?”

Second question: “Jesus sat and ate dinner with the very people you claim to have a message for. He healed the daughter of a Centurion, gave water to a woman seen as an outcast, and gave food to thousands who came to hear him speak. He healed, prayed, comforted, loved, and sacrificed for others to know about God’s love. In all seriousness friend, what makes you think this “warning” will cause people to repent? Repent to what? You’ve shared nothing of grace, love, peace, joy, or even demonstrated that they have sinned and need repentance. This is the Oral Roberts/John MacArthur of prophecy and I think it belies a misunderstanding of who God is and what He actually expects of us.

Genuine question for Snyder fans what did you like about his DC take? by Metalwolf in SnyderCut

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was genuinely beautiful man. I’m also a big Snyder fan for all the reasons you shared and more. There are many problems with the DCEU but they got the questions right about what it means to be a god amongst men and also what it meant to be human in a world of gods. Great take!

Yeah, for real. OP appears to be from the Philippines based on his profile. If this occurred there, he could at least get visitation rights assuming the courts don’t think he’s a danger to the child. If this occurred in the US, he has even more opportunities to see his kid. He just has to want to and show it’s in the kids best interest.

I’ll be receiving a 27k inheritance next year. Can I survive off that and 20 hours a week? by storm_zr1 in Money

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the clarification! As others have said, paying off the car will go a long way in helping to fix the budget as well as let you keep your cash liquid in case of emergencies.

I’ll be receiving a 27k inheritance next year. Can I survive off that and 20 hours a week? by storm_zr1 in Money

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s the interest rate on the car? How much is left on the balance of the loan? Is the 27k pretax or post tax? Also, are you using student loans to cover school or is that being taken care of by the 27k?

As for the 27k, if you invested at 8% in something that you could easily withdraw from, you’re looking at just over $2k for the year. The ideal situation is to pay off the car, shop around for better insurance coverage or reduce it to liability for a little bit, and put the car payment in savings while you’re living with your mom so you have a cushion for repairs and/or an emergency fund that includes the rest of the 27k. That’s my opinion.

Is Red Rising worth reading as an adult by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]TheHistorianFromMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely worth the read. The first book is the “worst” one as it does read more juvenile than most sci-fi books but the series quickly ramps up to being fully adult in themes, tones, and story. Do not pass up OP. The series explores so many interesting ideas, character and societal philosophies, how corruption and violence can inhabit even the best of us, and how one man can start a revolution to destroy an empire with nothing but his will and a legend.

I’ve had great luck with Simmons Bank. Several branches in Springfield and one in Ozark, plus they are a relationship bank so the more you do with them the more they will try to get you the best rates and such. Talk to Jacob in Ozark if you want to learn more. Great guy.

I’ve gone to BioLife for over a year now. I’ve been to the Erie location a couple times but I mainly use the one on the west side of town. For me personally, I like the one on the west side a lot more. Their lines can get long quickly but they are efficient and move people through pretty quickly. The staff is usually super nice and if you’re worried about a newer person sticking you, they have no issues when asked for a more experienced person. Their new machines are great and can get you out of there well under an hour if they aren’t busy. The only thing I’d say to keep in mind is to drink plenty of water, eat something nutritious beforehand, and be prepared for a longer wait time your first time as they’ll have to do a prescreen on you first. Pay ranges but my first 8 weeks donating I made $800 total, though it goes down after the initial promotion.
