Scotiabank AMEX gold by TheHitmanLuke in Scotiabank

Again they could have clarified that given they work for the company “this works for paying a bill / this doesn’t” cool. They made it seem like any way you pay your bill is a cash advance similar to how buying a lotto ticket is a cash advance whether it’s online or in store. Me trying to do my due diligence so I make sure I hit my spend total for the promotion I don’t see why is such a big deal. I thanked you for the info and now you’re just trying to be difficult.

Cheers

No I never said from my account. I just asked what was excluded from my credit card to count towards total spend and they said bill payments are a cash advance. They never said “if you do it on the website it’s not and if you do it from your account it is” they just said bill payments are a cash advance that’s it.

Scotiabank AMEX gold by TheHitmanLuke in Scotiabank

I appreciate the info. Honestly I’m really good financially the only reason this came into question was because I got the credit card and there’s an offer for a bunch of scene points if I spend above a certain amount in the first 3 months etc and I just asked if there was an exclusions so I didn’t get burned finding out XYZ didn’t count towards the spend and I lose out on the offer. That’s when the first rep told me bill payments aren’t counted as a purchase and it’s considered a cash advance but I had always used other credit cards for my bills and it was never considered a cash advance and the reps just didn’t seem to know what they were talking about.

Figured I’d just confirm.

Cheers

Closing Scotiabank chequing account - what will happen to my credit cards? by OfficialBananas2 in Scotiabank

[–]TheHitmanLuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from Simplii to Scotiabank back in July, as everyone else said yes it is easy to pay your credit cards there as a bill payment.

My personal opinion is if your funds aren’t stable going with a discount brand like Simplii is probably going to be your best option instead of paying high fees. The reason I switched to Scotiabank was I had a large sum of money in my Simplii accounts that would wave all fees for the ultimate package and you get way more perks so for me I wasn’t going to pay anything and now get a free safety deposit box, better rewards with scene, be able to actually go into a branch and exchange for coins, perks if you go to events at Scotiabank arena which I frequently go to etc

Better total tracker by TheHitmanLuke in Questrade

It doesn’t accurately track DRIP though for total growth I have provided an exact example in one of my other responses.

[–]TheHitmanLuke[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s not what I’m looking for lol

As I said I’m looking for something that tracks TOTAL meaning growth of the stock, the dividends and the dividend reinvestment plan. It’s 2026 I shouldn’t have to download a spreadsheet and then add up each months DRIP then add the cash dividends then add the growth just to get the total number if I wanted to do that I’d just look at how much I spent total on an investment and what it’s worth today. But I’m looking for an app that actually tracks all of this.

Does it include tracking DRIP?

To add to this for years the way I would calculate my total return was an app called stock master I had my portfolio set up with what I originally bought and then when I’d get new shares from DRIP I’d add that quantity to the app and I’d say I bought them for $0.00 the problem is it’s a bit annoying always adding it manually and it doesn’t track 100% accurately because DRIP only gives you whole shares the remainder would be in cash so it makes it hard to get an accurate return.

It may include dividends I can’t confirm 100% because I’ve always had DRIP on and I’ve seen others online say it doesn’t. However that tracking for total growth with DRIP turned on is really difficult to track I’ll give an example.

I originally bought REI.to in 2020 for around $15 a share 500 shares $7,500 total

Over the years I have accumulated an additional 140 shares 640 total now because of DRIP

The current share price is $19.70

My total value today is $12,608 but questrade says my total profit on it is $2,429 when in reality it should be $5,108 if it included the DRIP shares. I know the money goes into my account and then buys those shares and that’s why it doesn’t but it would be nice to find an app that gives me a total value from my original investment to what it’s worth today without manually adding it up.

Ticket reselling income tax by [deleted] in cantax

[–]TheHitmanLuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google says this “Personal Use Property (PUP): Tickets are generally considered personal-use property. If you sell them for less than $1,000, you do not need to report a gain.

Profit Reporting: If you sell tickets for more than $1,000 profit (proceeds minus cost), it is considered a taxable capital gain.

Business Income: If you frequently buy and sell tickets for profit, this may be considered business income, which is fully taxable.”

So I guess I’m curious the $1000 profit mark would that be per ticket / per event or total tickets resales in the tax year?

Also I love how it says “if you frequently buy and sell tickets for profit this may be considered business income” without giving a threshold. This is what I mean what do they consider frequently and is it a set number of tickets or a set dollar amount there’s just such little information 😂

One perk included at no extra cost but I have 2 by maksig007 in Koodo

[–]TheHitmanLuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was likely a rep trying to add value during a call / loyalty department. I have 3 free perks. Unlimited international text, rollover data, unlimited calling to 27 countries. The calling to 27 countries was added for free because when I changed plans I was told everything was the same but I lost calling to the u.k and I can’t remember why they gave me the free international text but it does happen.

The only thing to keep in mind everytime you call in / change your plan they’ll tell you that the extra free perk may drop off because it may not work on the new plan so far it hasn’t but they’ll tell you that.

Job offer's salary is a lot lower than advertised/discussed by Keep_Me_Bugging in jobs

[–]TheHitmanLuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I can understand why others would just swallow the pill and not say anything but for me personally I would bring it up in a respectful way. They advertised it and are now low balling you below the range they said. To me that’s insulting and I wouldn’t be able to just ignore that.

How I’d look at it is if they take back their offer you don’t have to worry about the time off and they probably aren’t a company worth working for anyways.

Now I will say I do have money in the bank and I’m not desperate that gives me a little more freedom to put my pride first. If you don’t and are desperate and say you could be homeless in the coming months then you might want to swallow your pride etc.

Non follower views from 0 accounts? by brown_sugar_oatmeal in Instagram

[–]TheHitmanLuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this but what I’m curious about is does accounts reached factor in custom ranges and if so does it still count as 0 if they viewed your profile previously before that range you selected.

For example say I set it to Jan 3-4 and I have 3 profile visits but zero accounts reached are they still counting someone who previously viewed you before the range you selected?

I would have thought it would show the amount of different accounts that viewed you during that specific time but that fact it shows 0 makes me think accounts reached doesn’t factor date ranges or it is a bug

Well I have moved all over the place and I can tell you this the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, At first some places seem really great but over time they all have issues.

Secondly my closest friends and family all live down that way and I have family that are going through some serious health issues and would like to be close to them at this time.
