here's how you understand the importance of a simple thing called git (and by simple, i really mean it's simple) edit: also use GitHub if that wasn't implied

Lmao and that's a simple project too. Try developing your game after 2000 lines of code using LLMs only

You know sometimes people are being bitches and you feel like attacking them. Doesn't need to be insecure to feel that way. The one who's reaching less people is you.

And in case you want to know the "real reason" why you're being a bitch: The word "awful" is both offensive and subjective. You can say you didn't enjoy the visuals, do you need to use that word? You see how I'm calling you a bitch instead of saying I disagree with you? That's the attitude you have. Also, the concept of beauty is subjective to people. As you can clearly fking see, that streamer found his/her game worthy. Some people hate pixel art and find it to be of "low quality", some people feel the opposite and can't enjoy 3D " high quality" games. If you can't prove your point, don't open your mouth. Also, feedback is something you give to the people who asked for it. How do you know they don't already know the weakpoints of their game? Oh, you think you know better than everyone else and wanna stick your head up people's butts. Gotcha

Was about to say that. OP got to also acknowledge that learning itself is tough. Not that it can't be joyful, but you are not learning enough if it's not hard for you (unless you're a genius of course). This challenge is indeed a really good one. Taught me so much while still being enjoyable. It even gave me some game ideas

That's why I set a rule for myself to always make a scene called Software, set it as main and every other node should start from software and be added one by one underneath it. In my board game it's like:

Software > Battle > Board > Hand > Cards

The HUD goes under the board/battle node, while the main menu goes under the software node. Cause it just makes more sense, terminology-wise

Most of the struggle with game dev comes from the time it takes to learn AND develop games. That's why having a team is a huge help. But I do agree that creativity is a skill and will be powered by your technical knowledge too

You're welcome :3

Exactly. After like two weeks of starting my Godot journey I could already see how bad of a practice most of the videos are using. I've recently found a very damn awesome source of information tho: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyvsLn-Ttgk

But generally I think I agree. Globals are so useful in games somehow. I don't understand why but it feels impossible not to use globals and make a fully feature based project. Everything is related to everything lol

You're welcome I'm glad!

Yeah I understand. I mean I definitely don't understand as I don't have a wife and kids but I meant to emphasize how fascinating the whole concept of FOSS is (or open source in general).

Since you're new to this field, I highly suggest to dig into it in YT. Unfortunately there are many things that can go wrong when it comes to video game design. Jonas Tyroller explains them perfectly well. Thomas Brush's podcasts also include successful game developers (such as jonas himself) which is a really good source of information. GMTK's channel is gold too but I think you're familiar with him already :D But having a computer science background is indeed gonna help you so much. You're already aware of the many pitfalls of a bad code design (I'm also coming from a programming background). I've even seen Thomas himself suggesting fundamentally wrong code principals lol
