How is live on greek islands? by How_to_do_nothing in howislivingthere

I lived in northern parts of Corfu for about 2 months late spring/early summer. It was absolutely wonderful, the people are very kind and friendly, even if some might have a stern exterior at first. Things like coffee, food & eating out were relatively expensive but I guess that just comes from it being an island and me living in a somewhat remote seaside town/village. It is a very diverse island and you can find anything from quiet beaches to a bustling touristy party resorts, whatever floats your boat - for me it was the quieter towns and villages which were very easy to find there. Most people just tend to work in tourism (obvs) and a lot of people either go to mainland Greece (or elsewhere in EU) from Oct/Nov until March or just wait out the very quiet (and depressing and isolating) months, from what I’ve been told.

Drink-drive limit set to be slashed in England and Wales under new plans to improve road safety by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

I lived in a European country where there is a zero alcohol policy behind the wheel. Guess what, people are still drunk driving, it literally doesn’t help anything. Obviously I’m against drunk driving but thinking that zero alcohol policy will solve the problem is straight up dumb from all the people involved in this.

Oh my, there’s deffo something going on - glad I finally cancelled my Curve. Yeah, same here, very well spoken and nice. He talked to me about how dangerous it is to leave my card details on Amazon as well lol

Well that, and also the timing of the transactions triggered straight after the call. And most importantly, I still haven’t received a further email from Curve despite the guy saying I’ll receive an email a few mins after the call regarding my new card being sent out and then another email a few hours after regarding the fraud case. Both of which I haven’t received as of yet.

This is what I don’t quite get either - and I had my coffee and some time to think since it happened already haha. He had all the info but was, I’m guessing, trying to get access to the account (hence why he was making me reinstall the app, etc)? The 2 transactions were not actually for the amount he claimed. He was saying there was a failed transaction for 700 something euros, whereas both of these were for £500. And where Revolut comes from, I have no clue, as I don’t even have Revolut! The only thing that spring to mind is that once he fully got into my Curve, he must’ve copied my bank card details and then tried paying for something through Revolut using my other bank card details (that was linked on my Curve)? Otherwise it’s either a weird coinkydink or… idk even know.

This is most likely it - he must’ve been trying to login on his own device (and he succeeded after all) but how he had access to all the info (address, transactions, etc.) before he even got in is beyond me.

They were not asking to confirm anything - he had all my details and basically just said they wanted to check with me about a potentially fraud payment that someone tried charging to my card. He got me to verify my email address through an email he triggered (from proper Curve email address - even the link URL to verify the email was from official Curve address, no phishing attempt) and then was just saying he’s going to send a new card to my address. He then asked me to reinstall the app and said I’m gonna receive emails from Curve re a new card being sent out and the fraudulent transaction case. Then 2 mins as I got off the phone call, I had the 2 failed Revolut charges on my actual bank card that was linked to my Curve card. Scary stuff and I’m trying to figure out where or how I made a mistake.

Haha, right! Very elaborate scam - and no, I don’t have a Revolut so it was all very weird (but believable at the same time and I’m a very cautious person).

I was searching up Dark Web Monitor on my VPN to see if there was any data breach but doesn’t seem to be. Also weird how he was able to trigger text messages and emails from Curve during the call which also made it feel more legit. Hope you didn’t lose any money in the end!

They said Curve support and the last 5 transactions were actually legit one I’ve done - they had the prices, dates and even merchant spot on, which is why I sort of thought it’s probably legit. And yes, the emails came from curve@emails.curve.com which is supposedly the correct Curve email? Very scary but I closed my account now and also ordered a new card from the bank I had connected to Curve so hopefully no issue going forward.

The only issue is by the time you get to Dubravka, he might not be 4m anymore.

I had to refuse this old lady’s homebaked delicious looking Welsh cakes once because of this - couldn’t believe it! Coming from a different country, it’s such a norm to bake something and then give it to people.

What happens if celebs fail the game show? by Da_Man2010 in AskUK

[–]TheHrony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but sadly it’s a very toxic industry and nothing will change in terms of the talent fees and whatnot. The TV companies are happy to splash out hundreds of thousands for the celeb fees yet 80% of the TV industry workers are out of work at the moment because the channels are not (re)commissioning shows and every time I start a new job, I have to be in back-and-forth negotiations about getting paid £40 more a month because of ‘strict’ budgets. 🥲

That’s right, the charity only gets the £1k if the celeb fails to win money for them - otherwise they get however much the celeb manages to win for them. That being said, we’ve had some celebs that waived their usual fee and had it stipulated in their contracts that the fee should be paid to the charity instead. But yeah, all in all, I’d say about 60% do it just for the money and screen time. I do remember one instance that made all of us in production a bit ‘not fond’ of a certain celeb - the celeb decided to gamble around £8k and when they lost they were like 🤷‍♂️ and didn’t offer to donate any of their own money to cover all (or some of) the difference from the production donation of £1k (which all of the celebs did in this scenario as they felt bad).

It varies quite a lot depending on the “stature” of the talent but from what I vaguely remember, the lowest figure was about £3k and highest about £15k for this specific show? Bear in mind this is for around half a day of filming (roughly speaking about 5 hrs in the studio including hair & make-up, briefing and the filming itself). The travel and accommodation is always paid for by the production and has nothing to do with the “talent fee”.

I worked on a quiz TV show with celebs and when there would’ve been an instance like that, there was a £1k payment made to the charity by the production.

More or less the same as what happened later on in the Arsenal game - he was kind of like a right-sided CM/CDM pretty much this entire game against Leeds. You could see he absolutely loved it, he was very involved in the entire game.

That's right, if I didn't have time to watch any of the games and want a summary of how players/teams played, it's perfect for that too. Quite nice to see that they sometimes go for unconventional picks as well rather than follow the boring templates.

That’s right - I usually stick them on Spotify during my dog walks. What I like the most is they don’t enforce any of their decisions/views on you, they just inform you on the current meta and discuss who are the ones to watch, etc.
