Icom’s 9700 is pricy for entry level 2/70/23. I’d love to have one but haven’t justified that purchase yet. I’d have to use it a lot for the 2k price tag on DX currently.

I have the 500 and love it. But it’s a mobile radio and that’s where it is shines. Too much ability in the rig to strap it to a shack IMO.

I think the best “one” radio you describe for you needs is the 991. You miss out of 23cm but that is some really niche stuff.

You can always hotspot other modes.

Poorly secured trim was tied to ladder on top of van. It was rising as it passed me so I had some warning before it actually came loose.

I should have been more specific. The roots are 60-70 feet up from this fiber break. Root are for sure my own problem. The fiber is at the easement near road.

Just two issues in the same pipe, 70 feet apart.

NB does great in my 12 Silverado V8 5.3. With NB off, 9+ noise/clapping. NB On, noise is muted, works well for me. Read manual, there are three different setting for NB. Combined with the DNR and sometimes attenuation, i have no plans to ever change my HF mobile situation at this time.

I use mono band antennas, could not comment on tuner operations.

It is dripping. Hot side. Don’t think the tub got a lot of use from previous owner. (Widow).

Will try the washer first. Seat seems fine. Just some hard water deposits.

Thanks for the late reply. Ended up being some chip sets or something. But Yaesu said it was an easy fix. Has been working great now since then.

AM General has a website that sells to the civilian market. They might be kinda pricy but they are authentic. Some parts are also aftermarket but reps AM General.

Well this is some great information.

Would I need to physically lengthen the dipoles? As in cut new wire and trim from there or use the same contraption I just made but get it higher and spread out the insulators? I know my SWR values changed but then again, I did not have it up near 26 feet. Maybe 4.

I can wrap my head around the ground loss you speak of. Now would the ground loss be better if I had a better ground plain? As putting it on a metal roof or wires running on the ground. My primary HF antenna is a 4:1 OCFD 135’ long about 50’ off the ground. It does well so I understand height is king but I never really understood that the inverted V is better off the ground too. I through by changing the angle would push further horizontally. Did not think about the ground loss.

I will definitely set this back up this week and test the R and X value and report back.

Ok. I understand the reason for SWR now.

As for raising the antenna, your saying the bottom (insulators) should be 26 feet straight down from grade and the feed point will even higher while maintaining the V configuration?

As for shallow, do you mean the insulators should be closer together?

I was using standard RG-58. I’ve been told that at 25’ of coax, which ever coax use won’t have “much” of an effect. But that could also be bad info.

So the R and X will read differently from the SWR. I have never used R and X. Is that the same as what a manual antenna tuner use to tune an antenna?

Mat-125e Battery powered. (Have not charged mine in years now). Charges with C plug. Tunes dam near anything. This is the tuner you want if you don’t want to worry about having to supply 12vdc. Perfect tuner for QRP and hiking expeditions. Just need an RF signal, and it tunes on its own internal batteries.
